Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui kebutuhan informasi nelayan Desa Kedungmutih Kecamatan WedungKabupaten Demak dan perilaku informasi nelayan Desa Kedungmutih Kecamatan Wedung Kabupaten Demak.Metode penelitian yang dipakai adalah metode penelitian kualitatif. Pengumpulan data dengan observasi danwawancara. Informan dalam penelitian ini adalah nelayan Desa Kedungmutih Kecamatan Wedung KabupatenDemak. Hasil dari penelitian ini adalah jenis-jenis informasi yang dibutuhkan oleh para nelayan adalah informasimengenai alat-alat untuk melaut, informasi mengenai cuaca di laut, dan prosedur melaut yang benar. Tujuanpencarian informasi para nelayan kedungmutih adalah agar mereka bisa melakukan kegiatan melaut yang baik, dandapat meningkatkan hasil tangkapan yang melimpah saat mereka melaut sehingga dapat memperbaiki ekonomi danmasa depan keluarga. Juga tentunya dapat meningkatkan kesejahteraan hidup mereka. media yang digunakan paranelayan untuk mencari informasi adalah dari televisi dan berdasarkan pengalaman selama menjadi nelayan. Selainitu juga kadang-kadang informasi didapatkan dari penyuluhan yang diberikan oleh pemerintah. hambatan dankendala para nelayan dalam pencarian informasi adalah pendidikan yang dimiliki para nelayan sangat kurang,kurang penyuluhan, dan sarana untuk mencari infomasi yang masih kurang.

Abstract

In a globally interconnected society, being able to communicate effectively requires language skills, especially in English. Speaking ability is the most crucial language ability, particularly for English as a Foreign Language (EFL) students. This literature review study explores the challenges faced by Indonesian English learners in developing their speaking skills and proposes solutions to overcome these obstacles. It emphasizes the critical role of speaking in language acquisition and highlights linguistic challenges such as grammar, vocabulary, and pronunciation, as well as psychological challenges including lack of confidence, fear, and anxiety. Additionally, the lack of opportunities to practice speaking English is identified as a significant problem. To address these issues, the study discusses the use of video assignments as an effective tool to enhance speaking skills. This research aims to help students become more confident and proficient English speakers, offering valuable insights for educators and learners alike. The result shown that the students can reduce the speaking problems effctively through making video assignment.

Abstract

Politeness strategies play a crucial role in maintaining social harmony and effective communication, particularly in language learning settings. Some studies have explored the use of politeness strategies in EFL offline classes, emphasizing their role in fostering interaction between students and instructors. However, few studies have focused on online interaction in the context of English for Specific Purposes (ESP) context. This study investigates and analyzes the types and functions of politeness strategies produced by ESP students and a lecturer in online interaction via WhatsApp group. The participants were sophomore accounting students at a private university in Banten. Their use of politeness strategies in requesting assignments, seeking confirmation, and other academic interactions was analyzed using Brown and Levinson’s politeness strategy framework. The results revealed that: (1) positive politeness strategies were most frequently used in the WhatsApp interaction, and (2) these strategies contributed to fostering harmonious relationships and minimizing conflict in online communication. The findings highlight the importance of developing pragmatic awareness in online interaction, and guide future research to investigate politeness in different contexts.

Abstract

One of the best literary forms is a song. Another crucial fact to be aware of is that a song is a small piece of rhyming music that contains the songwriter's fantasies, ideas, illusions, and messages for the listener. Figurative language is used in song lyrics to help the reader understand the messages being conveyed. Additionally, the purpose of the current study is to identify the figurative language used in Taylor Swift's song "Enchanted" lyrics. The authors employed a descriptive qualitative study approach that included metaphors (379%) and other literary devices such as alliteration ( 21,6%), hyperbole (16,2%), personification (13,5% ), simile (5,4%) and irony (5,4%). The use of figurative language as a non-literal or idiomatic form of expression could increase learners' vocabulary and improve their language's expressiveness and proximity to their feelings.

Abstract

Latar belakang: Keberadaan internet di era disrupsi teknologi memberikan dampak terhadap kebutuhan informasi manusia. Perpustakaan sebagai lembaga penyedia layanan informasi memanfaatkan internet melalui informasi-informasi yang dikemas secara online pada situs web perpustakaan. Tujuan: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis desain user interface pada situs web Perpustakaan Universitas Semarang dengan aspek user interface design in modern web. Metode: Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif. Data diperoleh melalui hasil wawancara, observasi pada situs web Perpustakaan Universitas Semarang, dan studi pustaka yang berasal dari sumber literatur relevan. Hasil: Aspek clarity mendapati situs web Perpustakaan Universitas Semarang menimbulkan ambiguitas. Aspek concision pada situs web perpustakaan sudah terpenuhi, yaitu koleksi Perpustakaan sudah terkategorikan cukup baik pada menu. Aspek familiarity pada situs web Perpustakaan Universitas Semarang sudah terpenuhi karena pada menu, fitur, dan button yang dimiliki mudah dikenali dan terbaca jelas. Aspek responsiveness mendapati bahwa secara keseluruhan semua menu, button, dan fitur pada situs web Perpustakaan Universitas Semarang memberikan respon yang baik. Akan tetapi, fitur search bar perlu dilakukan finishing, karena belum memberikan hasil pencarian sesuai keyword yang dipanggil. Aspek consistency pada situs web Perpustakaan Universitas Semarang mendapati belum terpenuhi, yaitu pada tata letak dan bentuk button yang berbeda-beda. Aspek aesthetics pada situs web Perpustakaan Universitas Semarang mendapati tidak terpenuhi, yaitu pemilihan kombinasi warna yang kurang pas dan masih dijumpai tata letak antar button belum diberi space. Aspek efficiency mendapati sudah terpenuhi karena secara keseluruhan situs web Perpustakaan Universitas Semarang mudah dinavigasi. Aspek forgiveness situs web Perpustakaan mendapati sudah terpenuhi, yaitu pada fitur search bar situs web Perpustakaan Universitas Semarang memberikan notifikasi “no result from…” saat tidak tersedia hasil pencarian.Kesimpulan: User interface pada sebuah situs web memiliki peran penting terhadap kenyamanan, daya tarik, dan kemudahan pengguna saat mengakses. Situs web yang memiliki tampilan desain user interface yang baik dapat menyalurkan informasi pada produk atau konten yang tersedia pada sistem. Apabila situs web perpustakaan memiliki desain user interface yang baik, maka informasi mengenai layanan perpustakaan akan sangat membantu pengguna dalam memenuhi kebutuhan informasi mereka. Dengan demikian secara keseluruhan dapat disimpulkan bahwa situs web Perpustakaan Universitas Semarang hanya perlu dilakukan finishing.

Abstract

The transition period is a crucial time for children, during which they are required to adapt to a new environment and various changes. Many children feel anxious, afraid, or hesitant to be separated from their parents. The role of parents and teachers is vital in helping children adapt during this period so that they are ready for school. The DPL KKM 70 UNIBA group conducted community service activities coinciding with the beginning of the new school year in the form of parenting sessions, featuring speakers from PGPAUD UNIBA lecturers, using a socialization method. This activity aimed to encourage parents to prepare for their child's transition period, recognize their needs, and promote active parental involvement in optimizing child growth and development through collaboration between teachers and parents. The results showed an increase in parental understanding before and after the socialization. If you want, I can also help make it more concise or formal.

Abstract

The sophistication of digital technology has presented new opportunities in early childhood education, one of which is through the use of interactive Artificial Intelligence (AI). This Community Service (PKM) activity aims to introduce and train educators at the Early Childhood Education (PKG) Kolase in Kramatwatu District, Serang Regency, in integrating AI technology into early childhood learning processes. The PKM implementation method included initial observation, hands-on training, mentoring in the use of educational AI applications, and evaluation of the training outcomes. The activity results showed that the educators were highly enthusiastic and capable of operating several developmentally appropriate AI applications, such as interactive voice-based story apps, smart educational games, and AI-based literacy and numeracy support platforms. The application of interactive AI has been proven to increase children's engagement in learning, spark curiosity, and provide a fun and adaptive learning experience. This activity has a positive impact on the quality of learning and enhances teachers' digital competency in responding to the challenges of the technological era. Therefore, the use of interactive AI technology can be an innovative solution to improve the quality of early childhood education in the future.

Abstract

Motivation is a crucial role in language learning as it influences students' willingness, effort, and engagement in the learning process. When students are motivated, they are more likely to actively participate, persist through challenges, and ultimately achieve higher levels of language proficiency. Role-play methods offer a dynamic approach that can effectively address the motivation challenges faced by teachers. By immersing students in simulated real-life scenarios, role-play creates an interactive and engaging learning environment. The study intends to explore motivation and improve English speaking proficiency using role-play method. This study use qualitative with literature study. The research found that role-play activities are able to increase students' engagement, real-world language application, speaking skills, confidence, creativity, and collaborative learning, ultimately leading to enhanced motivation in learning English speaking.

Abstract

Writing is the most difficult and complex skill for second language learners compared to other skills. Students need to practice and learn how to write. You can use error analysis to determine how well learners are learning a language. This study aims to identify the types of errors in the use of the future tense on students' writing assignments by the third semester of students Statistic Study Program 2022-2023 at Universitas Bina Bangsa Serang - Banten. This study observed 11 students and used a qualitative descriptive method. This research found that the students made three different types of errors based on Ellis' theory. The most frequent errors that students made were omission errors (24 data or 51%. The following were misformation errors (19 data or 42%) and the lowest were misordering errors (3 data or 7%). The errors that the students make can be used as feedback by the lecturer to implement remedial teaching activities, give the students extra exercises, and use various strategies that are suitable for the students.

Abstract

Penelitian ini mengeksplorasi efektivitas British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) Podcast terhadap keterampilan mendengarkan siswa kelas 7 MTsN 1 Kota Serang. Penelitian ini didorong oleh kebutuhan akan materi mendengarkan yang menarik untuk meningkatkan pemahaman bahasa Inggris siswa. Metode kuantitatif dengan desain eksperimen sejati digunakan, yang melibatkan dua kelompok: kelompok eksperimen dan kelompok kontrol, masing-masing terdiri dari 38 siswa. Kedua kelompok menjalani tes awal dan tes akhir, tetapi hanya kelompok eksperimen yang menerima instruksi berbasis BBC Podcast. Item tes divalidasi dan terbukti reliabel menggunakan rumus Pearson Product Moment melalui IBM SPSS Statistics 24. Data dianalisis menggunakan uji-t sampel berpasangan. Hasilnya menunjukkan nilai signifikansi 0,000, yang menunjukkan peningkatan yang signifikan dalam keterampilan mendengarkan kelompok eksperimen dibandingkan dengan kelompok kontrol. Dengan demikian, BBC Podcast efektif dalam mendukung keterampilan mendengarkan siswa dan menunjukkan dampak positif yang signifikan.
