Abstract

Abstract

Therefore, diversificationof foodstuffsshould be encouraged. Taccaleontopetaloides(L.) O.Kuntzeis selectedas one ofthe species forfooddiversificationresearch. Ethno botanical study of Tacca leontopetaloides in this research is conducted in Madura Island and itssurrounding areas using open-ended interview methods, field observations and purposive sampling. Taccaleontopetaloides is still neither muchknown nor utilized by the local people in EastJava. The planthasdifferentlocal names in each region, such as "Lorkong" and "Oto'o" in Madura, and "Kecondang" in Java. In Sumenepdistrict, local people use tuber of the species to extract the starch using a certain process. The starch is utilized as a substitute for wheat flour, and widely usedas an ingredient for snacks, for example: porridge, cakes "Serpot". The leavesare alsousedaslivestock feed. In the research locations, the species is commonly grown in wild, but inthe Langsar village, Saronggi, this planth as been well cultivated.

Abstract

Kedawung is a member of the plant genus of Parkia (Mimosaceae). It has important value as traditional medicine and currently has been included in the Indonesian list of endangered medicinal plant species. There are two closely related species to Kedawung in Java: P. intermedia and P. speciosa. Parkia intermedia has long been assumed to be a hybrid between P. speciosa and P. timoriana. The species has leaflets linear-oblong and obtuse apex in mature foliage resemble P. speciosa, but has more numerous leaflets, linear-falcate, and acute apex in its juvenile leaflets similar to P. timoriana. Thus Hopkins (1992) included Petir as uncertain species. The aim of this study was to assess its current existing populations, to clarify the taxonomic status and to evaluate the similarity between kedawung and its related species. Exploration, morphology and leaf anatomical studies, as well as phenetic analysis have been conducted. The results indicated that morphology and leaf anatomical characters can be used to distinguish P. timoriana, P. intermedia and P. speciosa as different species, and P. intermedia was more closely related to P. speciosa than to P. timoriana.

Abstract

The research was conducted at the cutting red betel (Piper crocatum Ruiz and Pav.) to determined the effect of (1) the difference growth of cuttings of red betel which are given IBA and without IBA, (2) the concentration of NAA on growth of cutting red betel, (3) the concentration of NAA on growth of cutting red betel on each given IBA. The treatment was arranged in factorial (2 x 4) in randomized block design with three replication. The first factor were without IBA (a0) and the given of 1.000 ppm IBA (a1). The second factor were the concentration of NAA consists of: 0 ppm (b0), 1.000 ppm (b1), 2.000 ppm (b2), and 4.000 ppm (b3). The results showed that the NAA concentration of 4000 ppm produced the most number of roots on either at the node or at the base of cutting. Planting cutting red betel which given IBA 1.000 ppm was able to accelerated the time leaves open and increased the number of cutting which germinate. The mixtured of giving IBA 1.000 ppm and the concentration of NAA 4.000 ppm, produced the most number of cutting that germinated. Keywords : red betel, given IBA, dan concentration NAA
