Abstract

Cultural identity is the distinctive characteristics, values, and collective expressions that distinguish a group of people. However, globalization has not only facilitated the exchange of information but also eroded the boundaries of cultural identity. History lessons, which should be a bulwark of cultural identity, are instead considered boring by students. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the strategy of a deep learning approach in high school history teaching to strengthen cultural identity. This study employed library methods with a descriptive, qualitative approach, utilizing both primary and secondary data sources. The results show that the deep learning approach in history teaching emphasizes the principles of mindful, meaningful, and enjoyable learning experiences. By integrating the eight dimensions of the graduate profile, this approach yields a comprehensive learning framework that aligns with current demands. One of the primary strategies for implementing deep learning is through problem-based projects and the use of technology, which encourage students to engage in solving real-life problems. This approach not only encourages students to memorize historical facts but also to understand, apply, and reflect on historical knowledge in their daily lives. Overall, deep learning in history teaching at the high school level has great potential to strengthen cultural identity.

Abstract

The declining ability of younger generations to understand and use regional languages is a growing concern, driven by globalization and the dominance of national languages in formal education. In Pesisir Timur Aceh, the Tamiang Malay language, which plays a vital role in preserving cultural identity and transmitting local wisdom, is increasingly marginalized. This study investigates the integration of Tamiang Malay into the local content curriculum at SMA Negeri 1 Seruway as a strategy to address this linguistic decline. A qualitative descriptive method was employed, involving classroom observations, semi-structured interviews with teachers, students, and community leaders, and documentation analysis of teaching materials. Data were analyzed through reduction, categorization, and verification, with triangulation to ensure credibility. The findings reveal that Tamiang Malay integration is implemented contextually through the use of textbooks, modules, and digital media infused with cultural values. Teaching strategies emphasize communicative and experiential learning, including dialogue sessions, pantun (rhyme) competitions, and folk theater performances. These methods have improved students’ comprehension of traditional vocabulary such as sidu, leren, tibun/laboh, gemane, nyambat, and pedeh, which were previously at risk of disappearing. This study concludes that integrating regional languages into the school curriculum, supported by culturally responsive pedagogy, is an effective approach to revitalizing local language use. The initiative at SMA Negeri 1 Seruway demonstrates the critical role of formal education in sustaining linguistic and cultural heritage in an increasingly globalized society.

Abstract

High school teachers in East Aceh face the challenge of limited skills in integrating technology, deep learning approaches, and game-based learning (GBL) strategies into teaching media. This condition results in learning that tends to remain conventional and less contextual to 21st-century needs. This community service activity aims to increase teacher capacity through education and workshops in developing digital educational cards based on local values using the Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK) framework. The activity was carried out at SMAN Unggul East Aceh for three days and involved 30 teachers from various subjects. The methods used included providing conceptual material, direct practice, collaborative mentoring, and evaluation through pretests and posttests, observations, and satisfaction questionnaires. All data were analyzed descriptively to describe improvements in participant knowledge, skills, and satisfaction. The results showed an increase in teacher understanding based on the average posttest score, which increased from 5.41 to 8.65, and the participant satisfaction level reached 4.75 on a scale of 5. The concrete product, in the form of interactive digital educational cards, produced by teachers demonstrated the ability to integrate local values into learning. This program is considered successful in creating a participatory, reflective, and creative learning atmosphere, and is recommended to be continued through ongoing mentoring and the formation of a teacher practice community.

Abstract

This paper analyzes cosmopolitanism in the relations between Aceh and Turkey. Aceh has a rich and complex history of cosmopolitanism, one of which is its relationship with Turkey. This research aims to analyze the dynamics of cosmopolitanism in the context of the relationship between Turkey and Aceh, focusing on the Kenegerian Sungai Iyu and the significant role of the Attahashi family in the cosmopolitan relations in Sungai Iyu. This study employs a qualitative approach. Data were obtained through literature review, analysis of historical documents, and interviews with informants. The findings indicate that the relationship between Aceh and Turkey has had a significant influence on cosmopolitanism in Aceh. In the Kenegerian Sungai Iyu, the Attahashi family serves as a cultural bridge between Turkey and Aceh. Cosmopolitanism plays a crucial role in facilitating cultural exchange, mutual understanding, and cooperation between the people of Aceh and Turkey. Additionally, this relationship contributes to historical awareness in Aceh, enabling the local community to understand cosmopolitanism in the historical relations between Aceh and Turkey. Cosmopolitanism in the Aceh-Turkey relations in Sungai Iyu has produced collective memory through shared experiences in the past, shaping a narrative in the present that is passed down from generation to generation. This collective memory strengthens Aceh's cultural and historical identity and enriches the collective awareness of the Acehnese people about cosmopolitanism through the significant role of the Attahashi family. This paper contributes to the understanding of the importance of strengthening historical awareness through the historical narrative of the Attahashi family in Sungai Iyu.

Abstract

The Nandong tradition is an abstract expression representing Simeulue's unique cultural heritage. This research aims to describe the local wisdom values of the Nandong tradition in Simeulue and their function in cultural inheritance for the local community. This research was conducted using a qualitative ethnographic approach. This research shows that the Simeulue people have various oral traditions, including the nanga-nanga and Dandong traditions. These traditions have meaningful values passed down by their ancestors from generation to generation and are instilled in the daily life of the Simeulue people. , these values are the delivery of moral messages, advice, attitudes of respect, responsibility, and resilience; these values cannot be separated from religious teachings. The cultural inheritance of the local wisdom values of the Nandong tradition is to perform Nandong arts at Simeulue birthday events and cultural festivals, welcoming guests as well as at weddings and circumcisions of the apostles and inviting the public to watch every Nandong performance so that people understand Nandong. Nandong art is also inherited through Nandong poetry, which contains important meaning, namely the advice in it, which is then conveyed to the public regarding knowledge of the signs of natural phenomena. However, the preservation of Nandong culture has begun to fade due to the development of modern musical instruments, so local culture is increasingly rarely displayed.

Abstract

As a foundational Islamic kingdom in the Indonesian archipelago, the Pasai Sultanate possesses a strategic heritage that remains underutilized in addressing contemporary challenges, such as the erosion of cultural identity, declining social tolerance, and low historical literacy. This study adopts a qualitative approach utilizing historical-interpretive analysis. Data were gathered through comprehensive documentary reviews of inscriptions and artifacts, field observations at heritage sites, and in-depth interviews with key stakeholders, including museum curators, educators, researchers, and the youth of North Aceh. The research offers three primary contributions: First, it identifies the strategic value of Pasai’s legacy as 'living heritage'—a dynamic symbol of a cosmopolitan civilization defined by tolerance and global integration. Second, it reveals a significant generational divide, wherein many young people perceive this legacy as static and disconnected from modern life. Finally, the study proposes an adaptive revitalization model built on three pillars: integrating the Pasai narrative into multicultural education, developing technology-driven heritage tourism, and leveraging digital media and creative industries to foster a sense of collective ownership.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the design process of Acehnese local history teaching materials oriented toward strengthening students’ social cohesion. The research employed a qualitative case study approach involving six social studies teachers, twelve students, and two curriculum developers selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through classroom observations, interviews with teachers and students, and analysis of curriculum documents and teaching materials. Data were analyzed using Miles and Huberman’s interactive model, which includes data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing and verification. The findings indicate that local history learning in Aceh remains dominated by elite-centered narratives and does not adequately represent the roles of cross-ethnic and cross-class actors in shaping social cohesion. Empirical evidence shows that integrating alternative sources—such as local archives, oral histories, and multi-perspective case studies—broadens students’ understanding of social cohesion as a historically constructed process formed through interaction and social negotiation rather than as a given condition. These findings underscore that strengthening social cohesion through history education requires a shift from single narratives toward contextual and inclusive instructional design. However, challenges remain in the availability of contextual teaching resources and pedagogical strategies. Overall, the study highlights the importance of systematically designing local history teaching materials aligned with social cohesion theory to enhance the role of history education in fostering national character.
