Abstract

Microhydro Power Plant (PLTMH) is a power plant that utilizes flowing water as energy. The minimum power requirement from PLTMH is 5 kW. The energy value of the microhydro flow is influenced by the water discharge value and the height of the water fall. The higher the water discharge and the height of the water fall, the higher the energy that can be produced. The aim of this research is to calculate the potential microhydro sources in one of the tributary streams in Tarakan City, RT. 05 Kelurahan Pamusian, Kecamatan Tarakan Tengah. The river flow studied has an effective fall height of 0.7 meters. To determine the discharge value, it was obtained using the 90o angle V-Notch Thompson method. Measurements carried out in the morning and evening for 32 days showed an average of power value produced was 8.55 W. Based on this data, This location cannot meet the PLTMH criteria. However, this flow source has potential as a Picohydro Power Plant with a power below 5 kW.

Abstract

Mangrove ecosystems, vital for coastal biodiversity and protection, confront escalating degradation from human and natural influences. Addressing the imperative for precise degradation assessment, this study introduces a Random Forest-based technique, utilizing NDVI (Normalized Difference Vegetation Index) feature extraction within a spatio-temporal framework. The principal aim is to establish a robust approach for evaluating mangrove degradation and land cover shifts. This involves extracting NDVI values from satellite images to monitor vegetation health and changes chronologically. Leveraging the Random Forest algorithm, acknowledged for managing intricate relationships and classifications, further enhances the methodology.By situating the approach spatio-temporally, degradation patterns and alterations in mangrove distribution are traced over time. The temporal progression of the study area is considered, affording a thorough degradation analysis. Outcomes affirm the method's efficacy, evidenced by a Cohen's Kappa Score of 0.96 denoting substantial agreement between predictions and observations. Remarkably high scores across accuracy, precision, recall, and F1-score (all at 0.97) underscore the model's precision in classifying mangrove degradation levels. The amalgamation of the Random Forest-based approach and NDVI feature extraction emerges as a valuable instrument for precise mangrove degradation assessment. The spatio-temporal analysis augments comprehension of degradation dynamics, pivotal for proficient mangrove management and conservation strategies.

Abstract

Children with special needs often face challenges in recognizing animal shapes and sounds. This community service program (PKM), based on the Service Learning approach, developed an application called Teh Melati, which utilizes Augmented Reality (AR) by combining 3D animation with traditional 2D flashcards to aid in animal recognition. The PKM was conducted over one day with 32 students with disabilities aged 6–14 years (N=32) at HS-Lantaburo. The Service Learning methodology involved actively engaging the community (teachers, parents, and students) in the design, implementation, and evaluation of the learning intervention. Students participated in an interactive animal exploration game that focused on animal images and sounds. Pre-intervention test scores averaged 63.75, while post-intervention scores increased to 81.25. A total of 25 students (78% of the participants) showed significant improvement. The active participation of teachers and parents in hands-on workshops further extended the impact of the intervention. These results demonstrate that learning gaps in special needs education can be addressed through community involvement and the integration of 3D flashcard animation technology, with Service Learning serving as an effective framework for creating meaningful educational experiences for both the students and the community.

Abstract

Accurate ripeness assessment of oil palm fruit bunches (FFB) is critical for optimizing yield and quality in the palm oil industry, yet manual grading remains subjective and labor-intensive. This study proposes CFO-RetinaNet, an enhanced RetinaNet framework integrating deformable convolutions and hybrid attention mechanisms to optimize multi-scale convolutional features for robust ripeness classification under variable field conditions. Our key contribution is threefold: (1) a novel dataset of 4,728 high-resolution, expert-annotated FFB images spanning five ripeness stages (Immature to Decayed), collected under diverse lighting and occlusion scenarios in Central Kalimantan, Indonesia; (2) a feature optimization pipeline combining adaptive feature fusion and dynamic focal loss to improve discriminative capability for nuanced inter-class distinctions; and (3) a scalable deep learning solution validated through rigorous field testing. The model achieves a mean average precision (mAP) of 83.6% and an F1-score of 98.3%, outperforming YOLOv5 (82.5% mAP) and Faster R-CNN (76.4% mAP), with 18.5% fewer misclassifications than standard RetinaNet. It retains 99% accuracy in low-light conditions and reduces labor costs by automating error-prone grading tasks. By publicly releasing the dataset and framework, this work advances precision agriculture standards, offering a transferable solution for ordinal maturity classification in perennial crops while supporting sustainable palm oil production through optimized harvesting decisions.
