Abstract

This study aims to examine the needs and expectations for the development of digital student worksheets based on Problem-based Learning (PBL), Socio-scientific Issues (SSI), and Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM), which can enhance students' critical thinking skills. This study employed a descriptive method using mixed approachs involving 105 respondents consisting of 73.3% teachers and 26.7% students from 20 provinces in Indonesia. Data were collected through an online questionnaire, in-depth interviews, curriculum analysis, and literature review, then analyzed using triangulation to validate the findings. The results showed that the majority supported the development of flipbook-based digital worksheets, featuring keyword search, links to videos or animations, and interactive quizzes. The integration of PBL enables students to solve real-world problems, such as the impacts of smoking habits or air pollution, while the SSI approach fosters social awareness. The STEM approach provides opportunities for students to conduct experiments and generate creative solutions relevant to everyday life. This study concludes that the development of PBL-SSI-STEM-based worksheets is not only aligned with deep learning but also provides meaningful learning experiences. These worksheets are expected to help students understand abstract concepts, enhance critical thinking skills, and prepare them to face global challenges through innovative technological approaches.

Abstract

The demands of 21st-century competition require several fundamental competencies, one of which is creativity. Additionally, the affective domain, particularly environmental awareness, has received increasing international attention. This study aims to examine the effect of implementing PjBL-STEM integrated with green chemistry principles in enhancing students' creative thinking skills and environmental literacy. The research employed a quasi-experimental design with a nonequivalent control group approach involving 10th-grade students at SMAN 1 Baitussalam. Class X IPAS 1 served as the experimental group, whereas Class X IPAS 2 served as the control group. The research instruments included validated learning material evaluation sheets, creative thinking skills test items, and environmental literacy comprehension tests, all of which were reviewed by experts and analyzed empirically. The data analysis techniques involved N-Gain tests and independent sample t tests with a significance level of 0.05. The hypothesis testing results revealed significant N-Gain scores for both creative thinking skills and environmental literacy (p < 0.001). These findings indicate a significant difference in the improvement of creative thinking skills and environmental literacy understanding between the experimental and control groups following the implementation of the PjBL-STEM model integrated with green chemistry principles.

Abstract

This study aims to improve students' assessment and inference skills through the application of the scientific approach. The research was conducted with a pre-experimental design using the single group pretest-posttest method. The study population involved 85 students of class XI of SMAN 1 Blangpegayon, and 22 students of class XI science 2 were selected as samples using purposive sampling. Essay tests on sound waves were used to assess students' critical thinking skills through pretest and posttest. Data were analyzed using N-Gain test and paired sample t test. The results showed that students' evaluation ability had an N-Gain value of 0.97, while the ability to conclude reached 0.99, both of which were classified as high. Hypothesis testing showed a significant difference between pretest and posttest scores with a value of 0.001 <0.05, based on the paired sample t test. Thus, it can be said that employing a scientific approach to the learning process can enchance the capacity to evaluate and conclude students

Abstract

Problem-solving is a critical competency for students, particularly in physics education. However, observations and literature reviews indicate that students' physics problem-solving abilities remain low. This deficiency is often linked to underdeveloped mathematical skills, which are essential for understanding and applying physics concepts. This study aims to analyze the significant differences in students' physics problem-solving abilities between those taught using the Missouri Mathematics Project (MMP) model and those taught using conventional instructional methods. This quasi-experimental research employed a nonequivalent control group design. The study was conducted at Madrasah Aliyah Negeri (MAN) Tanjungbalai with a population of 95 students. A purposive sampling technique was used to select 47 students, divided into experimental and control groups. The instruments used were a physics problem-solving test consisting of five essay questions and a student response questionnaire. Data were analyzed using the independent t-test.Findings reveal that students in the experimental group, taught using the MMP model, demonstrated significantly higher problem-solving ability than those in the control group. This is evidenced by the N-Gain scores: the experimental class achieved an average N-Gain of 0.74, compared to 0.51 in the control class. The results indicate that the MMP model positively influences students' physics problem-solving skills. The structured and collaborative nature of MMP may enhance conceptual understanding and application, suggesting its potential as an effective teaching strategy in physics education.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to obtain high-quality google classroom-based Blended learning learning tools to improve scientific literacy and critical thinking skills of class X students of Public Senior High School 3 Langsa. and find out the differences in the increase in scientific literacy of class X students of Public Senior High School 3 Langsa after the application of Google Classroom-based Blended Learning learning tools. This research consisted of two stages. The first stage is R & D. Based on the type of research, this research is research and development (R & D). The development in this study follows the development procedure developed by Borg & Gall. The population in this study were all students of class X at Public Senior High School 3 Langsa City which consisted of 6 MIA classes, namely 180 students. Meanwhile, which were selected using the purposive sampling method. The results of the study show that Google Classroom-based Blended Learning learning tools have been developed to improve scientific literacy and critical thinking skills of class X students of Public Senior High School 3 Langsa. These tools are in the form of valid and effective lesson plans and worksheets to improve students' scientific literacy and critical thinking.

Abstract

Critical thinking skills, particularly scientific explanation abilities, remain inadequately developed among Indonesian secondary students, as evidenced by PISA 2023 results. While STEM-based learning shows promise for developing critical thinking, few studies have specifically examined its impact on the explanation indicator students' ability to construct coherent scientific arguments using claim-evidence-reasoning frameworks.  This study investigated whether STEM-based student worksheets (LKPD) incorporating the Engineering Design Process could improve students' explanation indicator scores in physics learning. A one-group pretest-posttest pre-experimental design was employed with 35 grade XI students at SMAN 2 Banda Aceh. Data were collected using a validated explanation ability test (covering claim-evidence-reasoning dimensions), student response questionnaires, and observation sheets aligned with Facione's critical thinking indicators. Paired samples t-test and N-Gain analysis were conducted to examine score changes. Pretest scores averaged 30.35±4.91%, while posttest scores reached 84.52±10.63% (t(34)=-27.427, p0.001, d=0.77, 95% CI [49.13, 59.21]). The N-Gain value of 0.77 indicated high improvement. Observation data showed explanation indicator performance at 89.2%, second only to self-regulation (97.14%). STEM-based LKPD was associated with substantial improvements in students' scientific explanation abilities. However, the one-group pretest-posttest design limits causal inferences; findings suggest correlation rather than definitive causation. The Engineering Design Process appears to provide structured opportunities for claim-evidence-reasoning practice essential for explanation development.

Abstract

The Student worksheet based on science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) has been prepared, validated, and tested on students at SMAN 5 Banda Aceh. The worksheet guided the students to design a salt-making tool with a sunlight-gathering mirror. The worksheet was developed using the ADDIE model of the research and development (R&D) method. The subjects of the study consisted of 31 students divided into some groups consisting of 6 participants for each. The students were given problems and examples of salt-producing tools using a sunlight-collecting mirror. The purpose of this activity was to let them observe and modify according to their creativity. Based on the assessment of the tool model produced by students, the gained score reached an average score of 91 (very good). After the learning process, the learning outcomes increased with an average of 42 to 70. The science learning motivation and creativity scores of the students after the implementation reached 76 (good) and 79 (good).
