Abstract

This article explores disaster management, focusing on ethical considerations and fair allocation of relief resources in public health disasters. Disasters require emergency resources to aid and protect affected populations, raising ethical questions about fair allocation of relief funds for speedy recovery. Research in crisis situations presents moral dilemmas, balancing the ethical obligation to protect study participants' interests with the necessity for research. This literature review examines these topics in disaster response and recovery, emphasizing virtues such as caution, courage, justice, stewardship, vigilance, resilience, selfless charity, and communication in catastrophe response. Using the PRISMA method, relevant peer-reviewed articles were selected, highlighting the need for further research in disaster mitigation and management. The paper emphasizes the importance of justice and ethics in crisis situations, underlining the fundamental role of ethics in driving societal changes. Intending to enhance disaster management, this study introduces ethical concepts to stimulate discussions among disaster responders and managers. As an original contribution, this paper provides valuable insights for disaster management students and educators, significantly contributing to understanding the relationship between disaster prevention and management, and offering relevant recommendations to enhance disaster management outcomes.

Abstract

The objective of this study is to develop ISLE-based learning media using PhET Simulation to minimize students’ misconception about parabolic motion concept. This study employs research and development methods (Research and Development/R&D) with the ADDIE development model (Analysis, Design, Develop, Implement, and Evaluate). The results from this study are learning media in the form of ISLE-based Student Worksheets for parabolic motion experiments. To obtain credibility and validity results, the learning media has followed the validation process from material and media experts. Therefore, the learning media is suitable to be implemented for students. The results indicated that the feasibility of developed learning media student worksheet assists students to visualize parabolic motion. Student worksheet prepared using the ISLE model approach is used as a guide in achieving learning objectives to reduce students' misconceptions about parabolic motion concept through PhET Simulations. Moreover, the use of learning media student worksheet provides a visualization display of experimental results which helps students in understanding the concepts and there was a decrease in misconceptions in parabolic motion matter from 42.22 to 12.78%.

Abstract

Many factors in teaching chemistry influence students' soft skills and learning motivation. An attractive model is important in determining students' success in chemistry learning. This research aims to determine the level of soft skill abilities and students' learning motivation in implementing chemoentrepreneurship through project-based learning. The research methodology is quasi-experimental. In this study, 60 students were randomly selected from 162 MIPA class students who were grouped into 30 students in the experimental class and 30 in the control class. To determine the level of students' soft skill abilities and learning motivation, a survey was conducted on their learning activities. The N-gain value of learning motivation in the experimental class and control class was obtained at 0.68 and 0.40 (medium), while the N-gain value of soft skills was obtained at 0.63 (medium) and 0.28 (low). The percentage of learning motivation and soft skills in the experimental class with an average post-test of 84.68% and 80.54% (high), while in the control class with an average post-test of 73.53% and 68.33% (medium). The student soft skill and learning motivation hypothesis test findings show a substantial difference between the experimental and control classes.

Abstract

Buffer solutions are a crucial concept in chemistry that students often find difficult to grasp. An effective method to enhance students' understanding is through the use of dual representations assisted by animation. Dual representations involve using various forms of visualization, such as diagrams, graphs, and animations, to help students comprehend abstract concepts more effectively. The research type employed is research and development (RD) using a 4-D model consisting of four stages: define, design, develop, and disseminate. The research subjects were 26 students from class XII MIPA 1 SMA Negeri 5 Banda Aceh. Data collection techniques were conducted by distributing questionnaires for student needs analysis, module and animation feasibility assessment, educator response to modules and animations, and student understanding tests. The developed module obtained very good assessment results from 2 validators with an average percentage of 89.16%, while the animation media received very good assessment results with an average percentage of 80.43%. Educators' responses to modules and animations were categorized as very good, with percentages of 94.17 and 95.84% respectively. Students' responses were also categorized as very good with an average percentage of 87.2%. The results of students' understanding were categorized as good with an overall score of 82.60%. Based on the results of this research, it is concluded that the animation-assisted multiple representation module on buffer solution material is highly suitable for use as teaching material in the learning process

Abstract

This research aims to gain a broad understanding of Transformative Learning in science education (TLSC) and to find out the most popular research topics today. Vosviewer was used as a tool to image keywords and finally to describe TLSC research areas. This research was conducted through bibliometric analysis using Scopus data sources with a total of 497 documents obtained from 2014-2024. The results showed that the number of publications on TLSC has fluctuated in the last ten years. The largest decrease occurred in 20222 and the largest increase in 2023. The United States is the country with the most publications about TLSC with 183 documents. The most publications about TLSC are in the Sustainability Switzerland Journal. Keyword analysis shows that in the last ten years, research on TLSC is related to science learning, students, learning, environmental education, sustainability education, critical thinking, creativity, sustainable development, teacher education, project based learning, personnel development and professional aspects. In this regard, this recommended bibliometric analysis provides a useful understanding of the main topics covered in the discipline of TLSC in the context of Science Learning.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the needs and expectations for the development of digital student worksheets based on Problem-based Learning (PBL), Socio-scientific Issues (SSI), and Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM), which can enhance students' critical thinking skills. This study employed a descriptive method using mixed approachs involving 105 respondents consisting of 73.3% teachers and 26.7% students from 20 provinces in Indonesia. Data were collected through an online questionnaire, in-depth interviews, curriculum analysis, and literature review, then analyzed using triangulation to validate the findings.The results showed that the majority supported the development of flipbook-based digital worksheets, featuring keyword search, links to videos or animations, and interactive quizzes. The integration of PBL enables students to solve real-world problems, such as the impacts of smoking habits or air pollution, while the SSI approach fosters social awareness. The STEM approach provides opportunities for students to conduct experiments and generate creative solutions relevant to everyday life. This study concludes that the development of PBL-SSI-STEM-based worksheets is not only aligned with deep learning but also provides meaningful learning experiences. These worksheets are expected to help students understand abstract concepts, enhance critical thinking skills, and prepare them to face global challenges through innovative technological approaches.

Abstract

The demands of 21st-century competition require several fundamental competencies, one of which is creativity. Additionally, the affective domain, particularly environmental awareness, has received increasing international attention. This study aims to examine the effect of implementing PjBL-STEM integrated with green chemistry principles in enhancing students' creative thinking skills and environmental literacy. The research employed a quasi-experimental design with a nonequivalent control group approach involving 10th-grade students at SMAN 1 Baitussalam. Class X IPAS 1 served as the experimental group, whereas Class X IPAS 2 served as the control group. The research instruments included validated learning material evaluation sheets, creative thinking skills test items, and environmental literacy comprehension tests, all of which were reviewed by experts and analyzed empirically. The data analysis techniques involved N-Gain tests and independent sample t tests with a significance level of 0.05. The hypothesis testing results revealed significant N-Gain scores for both creative thinking skills and environmental literacy (p < 0.001). These findings indicate a significant difference in the improvement of creative thinking skills and environmental literacy understanding between the experimental and control groups following the implementation of the PjBL-STEM model integrated with green chemistry principles.

Abstract

This study aims to improve students' assessment and inference skills through the application of the scientific approach. The research was conducted with a pre-experimental design using the single group pretest-posttest method. The study population involved 85 students of class XI of SMAN 1 Blangpegayon, and 22 students of class XI science 2 were selected as samples using purposive sampling. Essay tests on sound waves were used to assess students' critical thinking skills through pretest and posttest. Data were analyzed using N-Gain test and paired sample t test. The results showed that students' evaluation ability had an N-Gain value of 0.97, while the ability to conclude reached 0.99, both of which were classified as high. Hypothesis testing showed a significant difference between pretest and posttest scores with a value of 0.001 <0.05, based on the paired sample t test. Thus, it can be said that employing a scientific approach to the learning process can enchance the capacity to evaluate and conclude students

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to analyze the improvement of student's science process skills with the application of visual gaining knowledge media in science subjects. The research method used is an experiment with a quantitative approach. The research design employed in this study is true experiment. The study's target population were all students at SMP Negeri 11 Banda Aceh, while the instance selected in this research were 56 pupils making use of the non-simple random sampling method by means of proportional sampling. The instrument used was 20 items to measure science process skills with multiple choice diagnostic tests. The outcomes of research on science process skills in the experimental class for each indicator were obtained: observing by 31.76%, classifying by 39.99%, interpreting by 62.31%, predicting by 53.42%, asking questions by 27.27%, formulating hypotheses by 21.74%, designing experiments by 34.95%, using tools and materials by 25.83%, applying concepts by 15.46%, and communicating by 21.72%. The study's findings allow for the conclusion that the highest indicator of students' science process skills is in the interpretation indicator, but the least significant indication is in the communication indicator. Therefore, the implementation of visual learning media in science subjects can have a positive impact on improving students science process skills.
