Abstract

The learning process in Indonesia has not directed students to be able to think at a high level which resulted in the quality of education in Indonesia is still quite low. This study aims to determine the effect of the application of STEAM-based learning on students' critical thinking skills. This research is a "pree experimental design with one group pretest-posttest design" study. The population of this study were all students of class XI IPA, totaling 3 classes. Sampling was done by means of simple random sampling so that the students of class XI IPA 1 SMAN 1 Baitussalam were obtained. The data collection technique used is a test question (pretest and posttest). The results showed that the Pre-test score obtained was a minimum of 5 and a maximum value of 50, while the Post-test score of at least 60 and a maximum value of 95, the average improvement of students on the final test was more than the average score of the pretest. The results of data analysis showed the value of Sig. (2-tailed) value 0.000 0.05. This shows that H0 is rejected which indicates that there are differences in students' critical thinking results. This shows an increase in students' critical thinking through the application of a STEAM-based learning approach. These differences can be caused by differences in the learning approaches used, where in the post-test using the STEAM approach, during the learning process students are faced with a problem that must be solved with their respective group friends. In addition, students must be able to connect science concepts with concepts found in everyday life. Based on the results of the research obtained, it shows that there is a significant effect of implementing STEAM-based learning on students' critical thinking skills.

Abstract

This article explores disaster management, focusing on ethical considerations and fair allocation of relief resources in public health disasters. Disasters require emergency resources to aid and protect affected populations, raising ethical questions about fair allocation of relief funds for speedy recovery. Research in crisis situations presents moral dilemmas, balancing the ethical obligation to protect study participants' interests with the necessity for research. This literature review examines these topics in disaster response and recovery, emphasizing virtues such as caution, courage, justice, stewardship, vigilance, resilience, selfless charity, and communication in catastrophe response. Using the PRISMA method, relevant peer-reviewed articles were selected, highlighting the need for further research in disaster mitigation and management. The paper emphasizes the importance of justice and ethics in crisis situations, underlining the fundamental role of ethics in driving societal changes. Intending to enhance disaster management, this study introduces ethical concepts to stimulate discussions among disaster responders and managers. As an original contribution, this paper provides valuable insights for disaster management students and educators, significantly contributing to understanding the relationship between disaster prevention and management, and offering relevant recommendations to enhance disaster management outcomes.

Abstract

The objective of this study is to develop ISLE-based learning media using PhET Simulation to minimize students’ misconception about parabolic motion concept. This study employs research and development methods (Research and Development/R&D) with the ADDIE development model (Analysis, Design, Develop, Implement, and Evaluate). The results from this study are learning media in the form of ISLE-based Student Worksheets for parabolic motion experiments. To obtain credibility and validity results, the learning media has followed the validation process from material and media experts. Therefore, the learning media is suitable to be implemented for students. The results indicated that the feasibility of developed learning media student worksheet assists students to visualize parabolic motion. Student worksheet prepared using the ISLE model approach is used as a guide in achieving learning objectives to reduce students' misconceptions about parabolic motion concept through PhET Simulations. Moreover, the use of learning media student worksheet provides a visualization display of experimental results which helps students in understanding the concepts and there was a decrease in misconceptions in parabolic motion matter from 42.22 to 12.78%.

Abstract

Current learning problems affect the low scientific literacy and creativity of students, so an approach is needed that is able to link science, technology, and society. The era of 21st century education and the development of the 2013 curriculum requires students to be creative and independent, so that they can improve better learning outcomes. This study aims to determine the differences in students' scientific literacy and creativity through the implementation of the STEM approach at SMP Negeri 2 Sigli. The research method used was pre- experimental with one group pretest posttest design. The research instrument consisted of scientific literacy questions, student creativity observation sheets and interview sheets. The results showed that the implementation of the STEM approach could improve students' scientific literacy with an average N-gain 0.74 in the high category. The average difference test results obtained a significance value of 0.000 0.05, meaning that there are differences in scientific literacy after the implementation of the STEM approach. This proves that the STEM approach can improve students' scientific literacy and student creativity as measured by three indicators. The three indicators measured are generating, planning and, producing, so that the scores obtained from the three indicators are included in the high category. The conclusion in this study is that students' scientific literacy and creativity increase through the STEM approach

Abstract

Many factors in teaching chemistry influence students' soft skills and learning motivation. An attractive model is important in determining students' success in chemistry learning. This research aims to determine the level of soft skill abilities and students' learning motivation in implementing chemoentrepreneurship through project-based learning. The research methodology is quasi-experimental. In this study, 60 students were randomly selected from 162 MIPA class students who were grouped into 30 students in the experimental class and 30 in the control class. To determine the level of students' soft skill abilities and learning motivation, a survey was conducted on their learning activities. The N-gain value of learning motivation in the experimental class and control class was obtained at 0.68 and 0.40 (medium), while the N-gain value of soft skills was obtained at 0.63 (medium) and 0.28 (low). The percentage of learning motivation and soft skills in the experimental class with an average post-test of 84.68% and 80.54% (high), while in the control class with an average post-test of 73.53% and 68.33% (medium). The student soft skill and learning motivation hypothesis test findings show a substantial difference between the experimental and control classes.

Abstract

Buffer solutions are a crucial concept in chemistry that students often find difficult to grasp. An effective method to enhance students' understanding is through the use of dual representations assisted by animation. Dual representations involve using various forms of visualization, such as diagrams, graphs, and animations, to help students comprehend abstract concepts more effectively. The research type employed is research and development (RD) using a 4-D model consisting of four stages: define, design, develop, and disseminate. The research subjects were 26 students from class XII MIPA 1 SMA Negeri 5 Banda Aceh. Data collection techniques were conducted by distributing questionnaires for student needs analysis, module and animation feasibility assessment, educator response to modules and animations, and student understanding tests. The developed module obtained very good assessment results from 2 validators with an average percentage of 89.16%, while the animation media received very good assessment results with an average percentage of 80.43%. Educators' responses to modules and animations were categorized as very good, with percentages of 94.17 and 95.84% respectively. Students' responses were also categorized as very good with an average percentage of 87.2%. The results of students' understanding were categorized as good with an overall score of 82.60%. Based on the results of this research, it is concluded that the animation-assisted multiple representation module on buffer solution material is highly suitable for use as teaching material in the learning process

Abstract

This research aims to gain a broad understanding of Transformative Learning in science education (TLSC) and to find out the most popular research topics today. Vosviewer was used as a tool to image keywords and finally to describe TLSC research areas. This research was conducted through bibliometric analysis using Scopus data sources with a total of 497 documents obtained from 2014-2024. The results showed that the number of publications on TLSC has fluctuated in the last ten years. The largest decrease occurred in 20222 and the largest increase in 2023. The United States is the country with the most publications about TLSC with 183 documents. The most publications about TLSC are in the Sustainability Switzerland Journal. Keyword analysis shows that in the last ten years, research on TLSC is related to science learning, students, learning, environmental education, sustainability education, critical thinking, creativity, sustainable development, teacher education, project based learning, personnel development and professional aspects. In this regard, this recommended bibliometric analysis provides a useful understanding of the main topics covered in the discipline of TLSC in the context of Science Learning.
