Abstract

The important period of the child growth and development is the time when a  child is at the age of 0-5 because the abilities in language, creativity, social awareness  emotion, and intelligence develop very rapidly and function as the base for the next  developmental stages. Approximately 5-10% of children experience developmental  delay. This observational analytical study was conducted in a cohort design using longitudinal or time period approach. Questionnaires were used to collect the primary  data. The method used to choose the samples was consecutive sampling. Moreover, data analysis was done by using multiple logistic regression test. The results of this study showed that the dominant developmental disorder happening to the children under five was speech delay. The results of analysis using multiple logistic regression test showed that there were significant effects of stimulation on gross motor p = 0.034, on fine motor p = 0.037, on speech and language p = 0.036, and on social independence.p = 0.036. Thus, there were significant effects of stimulation on developmental disorder.      Keywords: Stimulation, Developmental disorder, Children

Abstract

The se’i / nu tradition is one tradition that is still maintained by the local community on the island of Timor, where the process of postpartum care of mothers and newborn babies traditionally involves smoking up to 40 days or 3 months using charcoal / embers. (The smoking process involves requiring  the new mother and her newborn baby  to  sit  or  lay  above  embers  from  biomass  fuel  inside  a  traditional house). The purpose of this study was to investigate the association of the smoking tradition (se’i / nu) with the incidence of acute respiratory infections in infants at the Eban district health center in North Central Timor. The type of research was analytical. The design used was an observational study. The sampling technique in this study used the total population. The sample size was 42 people. The dependent variable was the incidence of acute respiratory infection, and the independent variable was the smoking tradition (se’I / nu). The results showed that there is a correlation between the smoking tradition (se’i / nu) and the incidence of acute respiratory infection (ARI) in infants at the Eban clinic  P = 0.016 (P<α). Abstract

Adolescents with drug abuse are common, especially among students. Health character is needed to prevent this behavior.  Health character relates to family support, peer support, teacher support (social supports) and self-concept as the mediator between these supports and health character. This study was observational study and used cross sectional design to analyze self-concept as the mediator between social supports (family support, peer support, and teacher support) and health character. Data was collected from senior high school students in Banjarbaru, South Kalimantan for two months. We used cluster random sampling also self-report questionnaires to collect the data. AMOS was used to calculate coefficient path and model fit. Sobel test was used to calculate the strength of self-concept as the mediator between social supports and health character. The results showed that the final model of social supports, self-concept and health character with GFI, AGFI, CFI, and RMSEA were 0.994, 0.996, 0.992, and 0.103. Our findings showed that self-concept was full mediator between teacher support and health character (p < 0.05). Self-concept was partial mediator between family support and health character (p < 0.05). Further research is needed to develop intervention and prevent drug abuse based on health character model. This research used qualitative method called phenomenology approach, whereas the research data were obtained using literature studeis and indepth interview. The result showed that amulet installation and incense burning ritual on the residence had the meaning to control lust for avoiding impulse behavior that was able to suffer the human life, regarding the fact that health was not only observed in physical aspects. However, if it was reviewed from the modern health science point of view, this behavior had to do with health and/or disease occurence. Factors that influenced health were from internal factor within the body, such as lust control and external factor, such as the environmental condition around the human being, whereas sickness was influenced by behavior, spells, environment, and destiny factors. The prevention efforts to stay healthy was with the natural human behavior and human capability in controlling lust.
