Abstract

Factor VIII/IX deficiency in hemophilia make patients susceptible to joint bleeding (hemarthrosis), especially in the knee, elbow and ankle joint. Repeated bleeding episodes trigger chronic joint damage (arthropathy) and pain, thus disrupting functional status, limiting social life which ultimately reduces quality of life. In Indonesia, factor VIII/IX replacement concentrate is the main treatment for hemophilia which is given on-demand. Its is because the price is still relativelt expensive and the stock is unevenly distributed in all regions. This systematic review aims to explore various non-pharmacological approaches that are eddective in improving the quality of life of adult with hemophilia. The method used in this research is article searches. Data obtained from 8 databases such as PubMed, ScienceDirect, Scopus, Wiley, ClinicalKey Nursing, Taylor & Francis, Proquest and Springer Nature Link by filtering articles based on year of publication, title, abstract and full text. The result obtained 10 articles that match with inclusion and exclusion criteria. There were three aspects of quality of life in hemophilia, five articles focused on addressing problems in the physiological aspect, five anothers discussed problems in the psychological aspect, and only one study intervened social aspect. Intervensions were carried out with various method such as education, watching virtual reality videos, counseling, hypnosis, use of knee support and physical exercise. Non-pharmacological approaches have been shown to improve quality of life with various intervention, but all interventions were given when there was no acute bleeding episodes (hemarthrosis).

Abstract

Hypertension remains a disease that poses a problem in all countries. WHO reports that there are still 1.28 billion hypertensive patients worldwide. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of Islamic emotional resilience on blood pressure and spiritual well-being. This study used the RCT method involving 100 hypertensive patients, consisting of 50 respondents in the intervention group and 50 in the control group. The intervention group received an Islamic resilience model intervention for 3 weeks, while the control group continued taking antihypertensive medication. The study results showed a significant effect of the Islamic emotional resilience model on systolic blood pressure (p = 0.00), diastolic blood pressure (p = 0.00), and spiritual well-being (p = 0.00). In the control group, there was a significant difference in systolic blood pressure before and after (p = 0.00), diastolic blood pressure (p = 0.00), and spiritual well-being (p = 0.129). Islamic emotional resilience serves as an important complementary measure in the management of hypertensive patients

Abstract

Introduction: HIV/AIDS remains a major public health issue, impacting patients' physical, social, and psychological well-being. Psychological effects like anxiety, stress, and depression are prevalent due to stigma, uncertain prognosis, and treatment complexity. Persistent stress weakens the immune system, accelerates disease progression, and reduces quality of life. Psychotherapy, such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), has been widely developed and proven effective in managing these issues. Objective: This study aims to examine the effect of CBT on reducing anxiety, stress, and depression in HIV/AIDS patients. Methods: Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) methods was used to select articles. Critical Appraisal Skills Programme was used for quality assessment. Discussion: This study reviewed ten articles on CBT's impact. Seven articles discussed CBT, two covered yoga therapy, and one explored mindfulness therapy. Results and Conclusions: CBT effectively reduces anxiety, stress, and depression in HIV/AIDS patients. Combining CBT with other therapies, such as Motivational Enhancement Therapy (MET), Medication Management Algorithm (MMA), and Enhanced Usual Depression Care (EUDC) plus the Healthy Options program, can provide additional benefits. CBT also improves patients' quality of life and has been shown to reduce HIV viral load.

Abstract

Families play a crucial role in improving the health of patients with cancer. Spiritual support from their families empowers and helps them to believe that nothing is impossible if they believe in God. The purpose of this study was to explore the experiences of families providing spiritual support to patients with cancer at a hospital in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. This study employed a qualitative, phenomenological approach. Participants were selected using convenience and purposive sampling with 10 family members of the patients participating. The study was conducted from February 2025 to April 2025. Data collection involved in-depth interviews with participants, which were then analyzed using the six stages of thematic analysis outlined by Braun & Clarke. The results showed that families' experiences in providing spiritual support formed three themes: (1) family, friends, and the environment as sources of encouragement; (2) family members remaining supportive despite difficulties in worship; and (3) family concerns and fatigue in maintaining patient morale. This study concluded that families should continue to provide spiritual support to patients with cancers, despite experiencing emotional and physical exhaustion. Nurses should involve families in spiritual care while also supporting family caregivers.

Abstract

The effective management of postoperative pain and anxiety remains a challenge in patient care. Immersive virtual reality (IVR)-based distraction has been proposed as a non-pharmacological intervention to help reduce these symptoms. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of immersive VR-based distraction in reducing postoperative pain and anxiety. This systematic review followed the PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses) guidelines by identifying studies that assessed immersive VR-based distraction in postoperative patients. Studies published from 2015 to 2025 were searched in ClinicalKey Nursing, EbscoHost, ProQuest, ScienceDirect, Scopus, and Taylor and Francis databases. Fourteen randomized controlled trials (RCTs) were included, covering various surgical contexts such as orthopedic, abdominal, cardiac, and oral surgery. Most studies showed that immersive VR-based distraction effectively reduced postoperative pain and anxiety, although some reported no significant effect. Variations in outcomes were influenced by patient characteristics, duration and frequency of VR use, and the type of VR content. Studies were excluded if they involved non-postoperative populations, pediatric samples, non-immersive VR, or non-interventional designs. Overall, immersive VR-based distraction shows promise in reducing postoperative pain and anxiety, although variability in effectiveness highlights the need for further research on technical parameters and clinical implementation

Abstract

Sleep disturbances are common in patients with stroke and chronic kidney disease, potentially worsening health conditions and reducing quality of life. Non-pharmacological interventions have received less research attention, despite the potential for non-pharmacological approaches to improve sleep quality without causing side effects. This systematic review aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of non-pharmacological interventions in this population. Randomized controlled trials involving patients with stroke and chronic kidney disease aged >18 years were searched in seven English-language databases. Methodological quality was assessed using the JBI critical appraisal tool, and data were synthesized. 9 RCTs met inclusion criteria and demonstrated significant benefits. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (4 studies) consistently improved sleep quality and reduced fatigue, anxiety, and depression (p < 0.001). Reflexology (2 studies) decreased anxiety and improved sleep quality (p < 0.001). Acupuncture significantly improved ISI, PSQI, and HADS scores (p < 0.001–0.003). Lavender aromatherapy reduced depression and improved sleep quality (p < 0.001), while spiritual care improved sleep quality and spiritual well-being (p < 0.001). These findings highlight the role of nurses in implementing non-pharmacological interventions to address sleep disturbances and related psychological symptoms in patients with stroke and chronic kidney disease. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is recommended for patients with insomnia and psychological comorbidities, reflexology and massage may be beneficial for those undergoing hemodialysis, while acupuncture, aromatherapy, and spiritual care can be tailored to individual needs. Further research is needed to assess their long-term effectiveness and their integration into broader clinical practice.
