Abstract

The aim of this qualitative research was to describe construction of algebraic factoring concept of high-ability students using APOS theory. The subjects of the research were high-ability students of SMPN 1 Surakarta and have been selected using purposive sampling. Data retrieved using think aloud method. Based on the findings and discussions, it can be concluded as follows. (1) In action stage: (a) subjects presented their knowledge by using pictures and words, and (b) subtracted the simple algebraic form by classifying the algebraic terms which have the same variables. (2) In process stage: (a) subjects multiplied the binomial using FOIL method, and (b) classified the algebraic terms that have same variables mentally and in the written form when they did the trinomial addition and binomial multiplication. (3) In object stage, subjects factorized the trinomial using procedural method and non-procedural method. (4) In schema stage, subject explained that the factor when multiplied by another factor will produce the factored trinomial and linked all the stages to formed a complete concept of algebraic factoring.

Abstract

Abstract: The research objectives were to determine and to describe creative thinking characteristic of 7th grade students of SMP N 1 Kragan in solving and proposing problem at comparative case seen from the cognitive style. This research belonged to descriptive research by qualitative-explorative approach. The sample was taken by purposive sampling technique. The subjects being used in this research were 4, those were 2 students with field dependent cognitive style and 2 students with field independent cognitive style. The subject grouping based on cognitive style was taken by group embedded figures test. There were two instruments that were used to collect the data of this research. The first instrument was solving and proposing problem test instrument. The second was interview guidance. They were validated by using the time triangulation test and the reference fulfillment. The data were analyzed using a Miles and Huberman’s concept, that was data reduction, presentation, and conclusion.. The results of this research show as follows, (1) Creative thinking characteristics of students who had field dependent cognitive style in solving and proposing problem were as follows. The fluency aspect was shown by the students through 4 stages of creative thinking process, both in solving and proposing the problem. The four stages were preparation stage, incubation stage, illumination stage, and verification stage. The flexibility aspect in solving problems appeared when the students gave the other alternative answer, whereas this aspect was not fulfilled in proposing the problems.  The originality aspect was not fulfilled in solving and proposing problems. (2) Creative thinking characteristics of students who had field independent cognitive style in solving and proposing problem were as follows. The fluency aspect was shown by the students through 4 stages of creative thinking process, both in solving and proposing the problem. The four stages were preparation stage, incubation stage, illumination stage, and verification stage. The flexibility aspect in solving problems was shown when the students gave the other alternative answer, while in proposing the problem this aspect was not completed because students were able to make only one question. The originality aspect in solving the problem could be seen when the students gave a new way solution and this  was different from the previous one. Meanwhile in proposing the problems, aspet of originality was not fulfilled.Keywords:   creative thinking characteristics, solving  problems, proposing problems, cognitive style

Abstract

Abstract This study aims :1)to describe process of learning mathematics in vocational RSBI Surakarta.2) to know whether the process of learning mathematics in vocational RSBI Surakarta whether it is in accordance with quality assurance system RSBI.This study used a qualitative approach. The subject of this study was a mathematics teacher in class XI program of tourism expertise. The data was taken by RPP and learning activities in the transformation geometry subject. Instruments used observation and interview guide sheet. Techniques of data collection by interview, observation and documentation. The validity of the data used the triangulation  methods and data sources. Data analysis techniques included data reduction, data presentation and conclusions.These results indicated that: 1) The process of learning mathematics at SMK Negeri 6 Surakarta were as follows (a) The planning was not appropriate  with the standards process because there are some errors in the writing of the identity,  programming skills are not included the amount of meetings and the planning has not been made  (b) The implementation of  mathematics learning  in the transformation geometry subject in early learning activities, the teacher of grade XI mathematics SMK Negeri 6 Surakarta apperception conducted a glimpse for repeating previous material. The main activities of learning, classroom math teacher of SMK Negeri 6 Surakarta XI UPW has implemented major exploration by encouraging students to do the experiment in determining the reflection point and the point of rotation with Geogebra software media, teachers conducted elaboration by discussion and taking conclusion after demonstration done without giving opportunities for students to analyzit. The teacher conducted confirmation by giving positive feedback and reinforcement in verbal to the success of students, gave the confirmation to the result of exploration and elaboration and got correction to the student mistakes. (c) The use of information technology-based media on the powerpoint application program, animation or presentation media in the mathematics learning process was optimally supported by Geogebra media software as supported transformation geometry media. (d) Use the usual methods of teaching applied mathematics teacher SMK Negeri 6 Surakarta was demonstration because it considered suitable for the material submitted with the help of the above media. (e) The use of English in learning mathematics restricted for the opening only, the slides that used in the learning was also not in English. (F) In the end of the lesson the teacher give students chance to ask which part of the material that still not understand, Taking conclusion from the material together with the students, giving exercises, and post test. (g) In the assessment step, grade XI mathematics teacher of SMK Negeri 6 Surakarta correcting students' test results, give feedbacks and comments, restore the work to the students.The results of the research also showed that; 2) The process of mathematics learning at SMK Negeri 6 Surakarta if it has been related with quality assurance system are (a) The process of mathematics learning is good but not meet the standards process and has not been riched by learning process from one of developed OECD country or other developing country. (b) The process of learning in mathematic have developing a noble character, manners, noble, excellent personality, leadership, life enterpreneural, patriot and soul. (c) The use of English in mathematics teaching was too minimal only at the opening, the delivering materials also have not to use English. Abstract

Menghadapi tantangan abad 21, siswa harus dipersiapkan untuk memiliki kemampuan kognitif dan keterampilan, salah satunya penalaran. Indonesia berpartisipasi dalam PISA (Program for International Student Assessment) dalam rangka benchmarking pencapaian program pendidikan nasional. Hasil PISA 2018 menunjukkan bahwa pencapaian Indonesia dibidang matematika  masih rendah. Hal ini disebabkan siswa masih belum terbiasa mengerjakan soal PISA-like. Masalah yang dihadapi oleh guru adalah kurang tersedianya soal PISA-like yang didesain khusus dalam mengembangkan penalaran siswa. Tim Pengabdian bekerja sama dengan MGMP Matematika SMP Kota Surakarta menyelenggarakan kegiatan pendampingan guru dalam menyusun sendiri soal matematika PISA-like. Kegiatan ini melibatkan 34 guru dan dilaksanakan secara daring dalam 4 tahap meliputi: (1) pembekalan materi mengenai PISA serta penilaian dan pembelajaran di masa pandemi, (2) inspirasi penyusunan soal PISA-like dan praktik penyusunan soal, (3)diskusi hasil penyusunan soal (4) implementasi. Hasil kegiatan ini menunjukkan bahwa: (1) 97% peserta menyatakan dengan kegiatan pendampingan wawasan mengenai karakteristik soal PISA dalam berbagai konteks (Personal, Societal, Occupational, Scientific) dan konten (Shape and Space, Change and Relationship, Quantity, dan Uncertainty) meningkat, (2) setelah mengikuti kegiatan pendampingan, peserta mampu menyusun soal sejenis PISA, (3) tindak lanjut kegiatan ini peserta dapat mengimplementasikan soal untuk kemudian menganalisis kesulitan siswa, serta mencari alternatif pembelajaran yang mampu mengatasi kesulitan tersebut.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan pengaruh karakteristik berpikir terhadap prestasi belajar matematika. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian deskriptif kuantitatif. Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah seluruh siswa kelas VII SMP Muhammadiyah 2 Surakarta yang terdiri dari 6 kelas dengan jumlah keseluruhan 178 siswa dan diambil sampel untuk penelitian dengan jumlah 114 orang. Data diperoleh dari angket dan nilai prestasi belajar siswa. Angket dalam penelitian ini terdiri dari butir-butir pertanyaan dari karakteristik berpikir. Analisis data hasil penelitian dilakukan analisis vasiansi satu jalan sel tak sama dengan menggunakan SPSS 16.0. Hasil penelitian ini menyatakan bahwa hasil pengujian F hitung > F tabel maka Ho ditolak, sehingga hipotesis (Ha) menyatakan terdapat pengaruh karakteristik berpikir terhadap prestasi belajar matematika siswa kelas VII SMP Muhammadiyah 2 Surakarta. Adapun kesimpulan dari penelitian ini adalah prestasi belajar matematika siswa dengan karakteristik berpikir tipe SA lebih baik daripada siswa dengan karakteristik berpikir tipe SK, siswa tipe AK, maupun siswa tipe AA, prestasi belajar matematika siswa dengan karakteristik berpikir tipe SK sama baiknya dibandingkarakteristik berpikir tipe AK maupun siswa tipe AA, sedangkan karakteristik berpikir tipe AK sama baiknya dibanding karakteristik berpikir tipe AA pada kelas VII SMP Muhammadiyah 2 Surakarta.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui proses berpikir kreatif siswa kelas XI AP-4 SMK Negeri 2 Madiun yang mempunyai motivasi belajar tinggi dan sedang dalam pengajuan masalah matematika. Pengambilan subjek penelitian dilakukan secara purposive sampling. Berdasarkan skor akhir angket motivasi belajar siswa diambil tiga siswa yang memiliki motivasi belajar tinggi, dan tiga siswa yang memiliki motivasi belajar sedang. Selanjutnya subjek terpilih diberikan tes pengajuan masalah matematika (TPMM) untuk mengetahui proses berpikir kreatif siswa dalam mengajukan masalah matematika. Teknik keabsahan data dalam penelitian ini digunakan triangulasi waktu. Teknik analisis data dalam penelitian ini diawali dengan melakukan pengumpulan data dari TPMM dan wawancara dengan subjek penelitian kemudian menyusun deskripsi pengajuan masalah matematika siswa dalam bentuk uraian singkat. Hasil dari penelitian ini adalah: siswa dengan motivasi belajar tinggi mampu mengajukan masalah hanya dengan membaca sekali petunjuk dan informasi yang diberikan. Kemudian menuliskan masalah tersebut pada lembar jawab dan menjelaskan prosedur penyelesaian masalah yang diajukan serta menyelesaikan pemecahan masalah tersebut. Siswa dengan motivasi belajar sedang perlu membaca kembali petunjuk dan informasi yang diberikan supaya dapat mengajukan masalah. . Siswa terlihat kurang tenang dan dalam menuliskan masalah yang diajukan beberapa kali terdiam. Kemudian menjelaskan prosedur penyelesaian masalah dan menyelesaian pemecahan masalah tersebut pada lembar jawab.

Abstract

Abstract: Describe the mathematical representation of each student's learning style in solving probability material problems. The research form used is qualitative research. The subjects of the study were students of class VIII A of SMPN 3 Ngawi who had studied probability topic. The research data came from written tests and interviews. Subjects with visual learning style have sufficient ability in word representation, less in visual representation, both in pictorial and symbolic representation. Subjects with auditory learning style have sufficient ability in word and symbolic representation, both in visual and pictorial representation. Subjects with read/write learning style have insufficient ability in word representation, both in visual representation, sufficient in pictorial and symbolic representation. Subjects with kinesthetic learning style have sufficient ability in word, visual and pictorial representation and less in symbolic representation.   Keywords: mathematical representation, probability, learning style.

Abstract

Indonesia's participation in PISA is less satisfactory, particularly in mathematics. Uncertainty and data are two of the PISA content areas being evaluated. Therefore the aim of this study is to analyze students' abilities to solve mathematical problems such as PISA on uncertainty and data content to map student readiness for PISA. This study is kind of qualitative study used a case study design. The sample in this study was 84 students of grade IX junior high school who were selected with a simple random sampling technique. The data collection method employs both test and non-test instruments. The data analysis technique used in this study consist of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion and verification. The results showed that 689 students scored out of 1344, representing 51.41%. These results show that students' ability to solve math problems such as PISA on uncertainty and data content is in the moderate category. While each material, namely statistics and opportunities, is in the high and low categories. This condition is based on learning that has yet to lead students to contextual problems. With these results, it is hoped that there will be efforts to improve the learning process by involving problems such as PISA as habituation.

Abstract

Assessment becomes a self-developing learning instruction and requires a broader focus on feedback interventions, especially learners' responses to feedback and the learning environment in which feedback works. Study of the ability of teachers to reflect on the application of assessment in the learning process in the classroom. The purpose of this study is to analyze Assessment for Learning (AfL) and Assessment as Learning (AaL) in the learning process in the classroom. The research method used is a qualitative research method using an in-depth, focused interview. Data collection techniques in the form of reflective are analyzed using reduction analysis, presentation, and drawing conclusions from the data. The results of the interviews show that assessment is often used as a measure of learning success alone, without regard to the application of constructive feedback to help students improve their achievement competencies in mathematics learning. Assessment is still focused on giving grades or rankings that can result in competition between students, so they have not focused on improving the learning process. It gives stakeholders a clear and unified picture of how educational assessments relate to learning and can help educators assist and design assessment practices. The construct of Assessment for Learning (AfL) and Assessment as Learning (AaL) must be looked at consistently with each other to build an assessment culture that maximizes student learning.

Abstract

Perkembangan teknologi untuk pembelajaran matematika berkembang dengan pesat. Salah satunya adalah laboratorium virtual yang dapat dimanfaatkan sebagai media pembelajaran matematika. Namun demikian, pemanfaatan laboratorium virtual dalam pembelajaran matematika belum optimal, bahkan beberapa guru matematika belum mengetahui bagaimana penerapan laboratorium virtual dalam pembelajaran matematika. Untuk itu, kegiatan pengabdian ini bertujuan untuk melatih guru matematika SMP di kota Surakarta untuk dapat memanfaatkan laboratorium virtual, yaitu aplikasi PhET Colorado dan Mathigon dalam pembelajaran matematika. Kegiatan pengabdian dilakukan dengan metode pendampingan teknis kepada guru untuk dapat menyusun modul ajar yang terintegrasi dengan laboratorium virtual. Hasil pelatihan menunjukkan bahwa guru sudah dapat menyusun modul ajar yang terintegrasi dengan laboratorium virtual PhET Colorado atau Mathigon pada suatu topik matematika tertentu. Selain itu, berdasarkan hasil kuesioner yang diberikan kepada guru menunjukkan persepsi yang positif terhadap kegiatan pelatihan termasuk juga terhadap penggunaan laboratorium virtual dalam pembelajaran matematika. Namun demikian, guru juga memberikan pandangannya terhadap kesiapan sarana dan prasarana yang dibutuhkan untuk dapat memanfaatkan laboratium virtual.
