Abstract

Studi ini meneliti hubungan antara motivasi belajar dan kemampuan berbahasa Inggris di kalangan siswa SMA Pertiwi 1 Padang, sekaligus mengidentifikasi hambatan lingkungan dan psikologis yang mempengaruhi produksi lisan mereka di era digital. Dengan menggunakan desain korelasi kuantitatif, studi ini mengumpulkan data dari sampel 33 siswa (n = 33) melalui kuesioner tertutup dan tes berbicara monolog ekstensif yang dinilai melalui rubrik analitis yang dimodifikasi. Statistik deskriptif menunjukkan bahwa siswa memiliki tingkat motivasi belajar yang cukup tinggi dan penguasaan bahasa Inggris lisan yang sangat mahir. Analisis korelasi Pearson Product-Moment menghasilkan koefisien empiris r = 0,368, melebihi nilai tabel kritis (rtable = 0,344) pada tingkat signifikansi α = 0,05. Studi ini mengkonfirmasi korelasi positif yang signifikan secara statistik, meskipun diklasifikasikan sebagai korelasi rendah karena efek batas atas statistik. Sub-analisis kualitatif mengungkapkan bahwa meskipun dorongan intrinsik dan ekstrinsik tinggi, kurangnya pengalaman berbicara bahasa Inggris yang mendalam menjadi faktor penghambat. Lingkungan dan rasa takut yang terus-menerus akan membuat kesalahan tampaknya membatasi kelancaran komunikasi spontan. Studi ini diakhiri dengan rekomendasi pedagogis, yang mendesak para pendidik untuk mengintegrasikan teknologi interaktif, seperti Media Digital yang Dihasilkan Siswa (SGDM), untuk menurunkan kecemasan berbicara dan mendorong komunikasi yang autentik.

Abstract

The objective of this research was to find out the students’ skill and students' difficulties in writing argumentative essay. This research has been done on English Department students’ FKIP UNES Padang in the 2023/2024 academic years. The students’ had five problems, there were difficult to investigate a topic, difficult in organizing idea, lack of vocabulary, not understand the language features, and lack of mechanic. The method used in this study was quantitative research. The researcher found that the students' skill in English Department writing argumentative essay for four semester good category. It was indicated by the scientific fact that 2 students from 14 students had excellent category with a percentage (14.28%), 5 students from 14 students had very good category with a percentage (28,57%), there are 6 students from 14 students had good category with a percentage (50%), the next 1 students get fair category with a percentage (7%) and the poor category is not found by all the students. The researcher concluded that students writing skill in argumentative essay was 62% very good category.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze students’ skills in writing announcement texts at SMA Ekasakti Padang. This research employed a descriptive quantitative method. The population of the study consisted of tenth-grade students of SMA Ekasakti Padang, and the sample was selected through random sampling. The instrument used was a writing test requiring students to compose an announcement text. The data were analyzed using a scoring rubric covering content, organization, vocabulary, grammar, and mechanics. The results show that students’ overall writing skill was at a moderate level. Students performed relatively well in content and organization, but they experienced difficulties in grammar and vocabulary. These findings indicate the need for more intensive writing practice and teacher feedback to improve students’ writing skills in announcement texts.

Abstract

Program pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini dilaksanakan di Pantai Air Manis, Kota Padang, Sumatera Barat, dengan mitra Kelompok Sadar Wisata (Pokdarwis) yang menghadapi keterbatasan dalam komunikasi bahasa Inggris dan pemanfaatan media digital. Kegiatan ini bertujuan untuk memperkuat kapasitas mitra melalui pelatihan bahasa Inggris pariwisata, workshop promosi digital, serta edukasi pariwisata berkelanjutan. Metode yang digunakan meliputi pelatihan, pendampingan lapangan, dan evaluasi partisipatif dengan menggunakan instrumen observasi, kuesioner, dan penilaian praktik langsung. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan bahwa peserta memiliki kemampuan komunikasi dasar dalam bahasa Inggris pariwisata, mampu memanfaatkan media digital sebagai sarana promosi, serta menunjukkan pemahaman yang lebih baik terhadap aspek kebersihan dan pelayanan wisata. Selain itu, terbentuknya media promosi digital menjadi salah satu bentuk dukungan terhadap pengelolaan destinasi wisata. Program ini berkontribusi dalam memperkuat kapasitas kelembagaan Pokdarwis serta mendukung pengembangan destinasi wisata yang lebih adaptif dan berkelanjutan.

Abstract

 The purpose of this research was to describe student’s skill in writing procedure text through YouTube video to tenth grade students at SMA Ekasakti Padang. This Research had to be done because students’ low level of skill in writing due to lack of vocabulary in organizing ideas and lack of language comprehension. This research is a descriptive qualitative research with population of 17 students at tenth grade Phase E. The technique of collecting data was total sampling technique and the instrument for this research was writing procedure text test after they watch a Youtube video titled ‘How to Use A Camera’. The results showed that student’s writing skill was fair to low because based on five scoring aspect in writing (content, organization, vocabulary, language feature, and mechanic), the majority of students was in fair and low category. This result showed that even though Youtube video helped students to understand he structure and the steps in procedure text, students still have difficulties in grammar, vocabulary, and spelling. Therefore, guided integration of Youtube video with writing exercise and vocabulary development is highly recommended.

Abstract

Corruption remains a deeply entrenched structural problem undermining Indonesia's democratic foundations. This study analyzes how Metro TV and tvOne - two national news television stations with distinct ownership backgrounds and political affiliations - construct the reality of corruption issues through their respective news frames. A descriptive qualitative approach was employed using Robert M. Entman's (1993) framing analysis model as the primary analytical framework. Data were collected through documentation of prime-time news programs on both stations from January to June 2024, with 60 news segments purposively selected as the research sample. Analysis was conducted across Entman's four framing elements - define problems, diagnose causes, make moral judgement, and treatment recommendation - with instrument reliability tested through Holsti's coefficient (CR = 0.84) and Scott's Pi (π = 0.79). Findings reveal systematic differences between both outlets: Metro TV predominantly frames corruption as a legal-institutional problem (47%) rooted in bureaucratic-systemic weaknesses (37%), whereas tvOne more dominantly frames it as a political-individual problem (43%), identifying individual greed (43%) as the primary cause. The most pronounced difference appears in the moral judgement element, where tvOne's criticism toward law enforcement institutions exceeds Metro TV's by more than twofold. This study concludes that these differences are explicable through the political economy of communication framework, particularly the relationship between media ownership, owners' political affiliations, and editorial orientation.

Abstract

Tanaka hamlet, now known as Arjomulyo hamlet, located in Bangelan village, Wonosari district, Malang regency, holds significant historical value related to the Japanese occupation era in Indonesia. The name “Tanaka” originated from Mitsuyuki Tanaka, a former Japanese soldier who played a key role in the migration and settlement planning of residents from Singosari to the slopes of Mount Kawi in 1942. However, over time, his story and contributions have gradually faded, and the original history has slowly begun to change. Through this Community Service activity, the team from the Japanese Language Education Program, Faculty of Cultural Studies, Universitas Brawijaya, aims to preserve this local history by writing an illustrated storybook. This medium was chosen to suit the low literacy rate in Indonesia, which requires more visual and narrative-based approaches that are engaging and easier to understand. This activity is expected not only to reintroduce the history of dusun Tanaka to the community but also to increase reading interest and strengthen the community’s connection to their cultural heritage. This illustrated storybook, titled "The History of Tanaka," details the origins of the name Tanaka Hamlet. It features a story and illustrations that help readers better understand the plot.
