Abstract

Career aspirations can be defined as a strong and directed desire to achieve success in the future. However, limited information and access to career opportunities often lead to confusion among students in planning their future career choices. Additionally, the tendency of students to choose further studies based on non-rational factors also contributes to this issue, necessitating appropriate interventions. This study aims to examine how students' career aspirations can be elevated through the intervention of group counseling using the Solution-Focused Brief Counseling (SFBC) approach. This quantitative study using quasi-experimental method with one-group pretest-posttest design. Data were collected using the "Career Aspiration Scale – Revised" (CAS-R). The sample consisted of 10 eleventh-grade students from UM Laboratory High School. Descriptive results indicated a significant difference in pretest and posttest scores. Further analysis using a paired t-test showed a positive significant difference in students' career aspiration scores before and after the intervention. The findings of this study suggest an increase in students' career aspirations following the implementation of group counseling with the Solution-Focused Brief Counseling approach. The practical implications of this study highlight the use of SFBC as a proven alternative to enhance students' career aspirations. This study aims to enhance self-awareness among students through career guidance services at Laboratory Senior Highschool UM. This research using a quantitative quasi-experimental approach with a One Group Pretest-Posttest design. This research involved 31 students, which were purposively selected as the sample. Initial findings revealed that 9 students had low self-awareness scores on the pretest, while the others had moderate levels. Post-intervention results showed an improvement from low-moderate to moderate-high self-awareness, with an average posttest score of 42. This study demonstrates that career guidance services effectively enhance self-awareness in high school students, aiding their career planning and decision-making. It is recommended to develop and update career guidance services to be more effective and tailored to students' career needs.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to develop a collaborative guidance and counseling program based on the need analysis of student’s learning motivation and behavior. A survey design was selected to describe, measure, and analyze the relationship between achievement motivation, religious motivation, affiliation motivation, and the need for power on students’ learning behavior. The study population was 795 students in a school, and 595 students were recruited using a stratified random sampling technique to represent the 7th, 8th, and 9th-grade students. Data were collected using achievement motivation, religious motivation, affiliation motivation, need for power, and learning behaviors with minimum item-total validity of 0.30 and reliability score between 0.6 and 0.9. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and Pearson Correlation, supported by expert statements and relevant previous findings, as well as logical analysis for relevant program recommendations. The result showed that all motivations, except power motivation, are significantly related to students learning behavior. Thus, collaborative learning guidance and counseling program is suggested to cover the strengthening of religious motivation, achievement motivation, and learning behavior. It is also necessary to optimize online and offline media for service targets, including individuals, groups, classes, a whole school, and collaboration with external parties. The collaborative effort should include the school principal, homeroom teacher, subject teacher, administrators, students organization, experts, and parents. This study may serve as a reference for school counselors in providing guidance services for students.

Abstract

Basic communication skills are primary modalities for the counselor and should be developed from their preservice education. In Indonesia, most guidance and counseling major provide the basic communication skills course as a hybrid course, containing both theoretical and practical learning. This model had many challenges in making a balanced outcome for both the theoretical knowledge and practical skills. This research aims to test the bingo-keterampilan dasar komunikasi (KDK) as an integrated learning strategy of bingo games, reverse role-play, and reflection sessions to improve preservice counselors’ basic communication skills. This research used a quantitative method with a randomized control trial (RCT) experiment design. This research involved 56 preservice counselors, divided randomly into experiment and control groups. The measurement used is the performance test of the basic communication skills course. Data analysis focused on measuring basic statistics and t-tests. The results show the experiment group has higher results and is significantly different from the control group. This effectiveness was supported by the learning atmosphere that indirectly increased the involvement of the preservice counselor. This research suggests exploring the mental experience and performance measurement during the learning sessions using the bingo-KDK game.

Abstract

The Osing culture embodies syncretic values that influence individuals respond to life’s challenges and shape their values and belief as part of their meaning of life (MoL). This study aimed to examine the effectiveness of integrating Osing cultural syncretism into Cognitive Behavioral Counseling (CBC) to support students in developing MoL based on creative, experiential, and attitudinal dimensions. A quasi-experimental pretest-posttest design was used, involving 30 students from the Osing ethnic group by purposive sampling. Data were collected using the Meaning of Life Questionnaire (MLQ), adapted to reflect Osing cultural constructs, supported with alpha reliability at .769. The results were analyzed using a paired-sample t-test. Findings revealed a significant positive difference in students’ MoL scores after the intervention, supporting the effectiveness of the syncretic CBC model as the significant value below .001. The blended Osing cultural and Islamic values had become syncretism practices in the community spiritual dimension. This contributes in counseling for students’ cognitive reframing and value-based decision-making. Syncretism serves as a foundation for belief systems and automatic thought patterns. This study suggests culturally grounded counseling to enhance psychological outcomes based on exploration of Osing spiritual-cultural practices, like Barong Ider Bumi, Tumpeng Sewu, and other local wisdoms.
