Abstract

Tuberculosis (TB) remains a leading cause of global mortality, with 10.6 million new cases reported worldwide in 2023 by the World Health Organization (WHO), including 450,000 cases of rifampicin-resistant TB (RR-TB). This study aimed to determine the correlation between Acid-Fast Bacilli (AFB) smear and Rapid Molecular Test (TCM) results among TB patients at Dr. Loekmono Hadi General Hospital, Kudus. This descriptive-analytic study employed a cross-sectional design and involved 45 randomly selected TB patients who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria in January 2025. Each patient underwent both AFB smear and TCM (GeneXpert) examinations. Data were analyzed using univariate and bivariate analysis, with the Chi-Square test used to assess the correlation. The results showed that the majority of patients were aged 46–65 years (48.8%) and male (57.8%). TCM detected MTB Not Detected in 66.7% of patients, while 80% had negative AFB smear results. The Chi-Square test revealed a significant correlation between the two methods (p < 0.001). In conclusion, TCM is more sensitive than AFB smear in detecting TB. These findings imply that broader implementation of TCM in TB screening and diagnosis is essential to enhance early detection accuracy and improve disease control efforts.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of EDTA blood sample stability on hemoglobin (Hb) and hematocrit (Ht) examination results using an automatic method. EDTA blood samples from 38 employees of Kedung II Public Health Center were examined immediately (0 hours), after a 1-hour delay at room temperature (17–210C), and after a 1-hour delay in a refrigerator (2–80C). The results were analyzed using a Two-Way ANOVA test. The study showed no significant differences in hemoglobin and hematocrit levels between the three storage conditions (ρ > 0.05). The average hemoglobin levels were 12.834 g/dL at 0 hours, 12.797 g/dL after 1 hour at room temperature, and 12.829 g/dL after 1 hour in the refrigerator. The average hematocrit levels were 38.484% at 0 hours, 38.321% after 1 hour at room temperature, and 38.434% after 1 hour in the refrigerator. The conclusion of this study is that storing EDTA blood samples for 1 hour, whether at room temperature or in the refrigerator, does not significantly affect hemoglobin and hematocrit examination results.

Abstract

Hypertension is one of the main health problems faced by people throughout the world, including in Indonesia. Uncontrolled hypertension can cause various complications such as heart disease, stroke and kidney damage. Microalbuminuria, namely the presence of small amounts of albumin in the urine, is an early indicator of kidney damage. In hypertensive patients, microalbuminuria can be an early sign of hypertensive nephropathy, which is a serious complication of high blood pressure. Compliance with taking medication affects blood pressure control. This study aims to evaluate the relationship between adherence to antihypertensive medication and microalbumin levels in hypertension prolanis patients. This research is observational analytic with a cross sectional approach. Data was obtained prospectively in the period July-August 2024 with a sample size of 33 respondents. Medication adherence was taken using a questionnaire, and data on microalbuminuria levels was obtained through medical record data. Next, the results were subjected to a chi-square statistical correlation test. Microalbumin levels and medication adherence blood pressure lowering medication, obtained a value of p = 0.0 (p < 0.05) which indicates that statistically there is a significant relationship between microalbumin levels and compliance of taking blood pressure lowering medication. The frequency distribution of hypertensive sufferers with high microalbumin levels, namely ≥ 30 mg/dL, shows a result of 51.6% (17 patients).

Abstract

Hypertension is a silent killer because it often occurs without complaints, symptoms can vary among individuals, and are almost the same as the symptoms of other diseases and can cause several complications including coronary heart disease, stroke and kidney failure. To support appropriate hypertension therapy, health counseling is needed given that knowledge and adherence to the expected therapeutic effect can be achieved. The purpose of this study was to determine the influence of health counseling on increasing patient knowledge and compliance. Primary data collection was carried out from February to March 2023, using the one-group pre and post-test experimental quasi-methods, for 55 respondents. The research instrument used two questionnaires, namely patient knowledge and compliance. Blood pressure was 140/90 in 34 (61,82%) patients and the duration of hypertension was 5 years in as many as 43 (78,2%) patients. The percentage of patients who completed the post-test patient knowledge was as high as 100%, and the percentage of patients who completed the post-test compliance was as high as 63,64%. A significant difference was found between the two data sets (p= 0.000). Patient knowledge and compliance increased significantly from before health counseling to after health counseling.
