Abstract

Indonesia is the largest batik-producing country in the world. The batik industry is growing rapidly in Indonesia, apart from having a positive impact, there is also a negative impact, namely environmental pollution in waterways and groundwater sources due to liquid waste resulting from batik production. This colored and smelly waste can cause allergies and damage the quality of groundwater which is also a source of drinking water for the surrounding community. Apart from treating wastewater using IPAL, another solution is for batik craftsmen to be motivated and raise awareness to use natural, environmentally friendly dyes. This is what prompted the PKM activity "Training on Making Natural Batik Dye Using a Multifunctional Mixer Machine for Bekasi Batik MSMEs". In terms of quality, batik with natural dyes has a higher value than batik using synthetic dyes. Economically, there is still a large market for environmentally friendly batik, especially from customers who are environmentally conscious both at home and abroad. The method for making natural dyes, which used to be boiled using just a pan, will be improved by using a multi-function stirring machine, making it more productive, efficient, and hygienic so that natural dyes are not easily damaged. The manufacturing process time can also be shorter so that the overall production time is not disrupted. Increasing the awareness and ability of craftsmen in processing natural dyes is expected to also improve the quality of batik products and the environment around the production site. In the end, it is hoped that an increase in craftsmen's business will occur

Abstract

Salah satu permasalahan lingkungan di sekitar Kelurahan Angke, Kecamatan Tambora, Jakarta Barat adalah limbah industri rumah tangga pemotongan ayam. Kadar BOD, COD dan TSS pada air limbah mencapai 8.320 mg/L, 15.360 mg/L dan 240 mg/L, melebihi baku mutu air limbah Peraturan Menteri Lingkungan Hidup Nomor 5 Tahun 2014. Program Pengabdian Masyarakat (PKM) dari Lembaga Penelitian dan Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat (LPPM) Universitas Trisakti bertujuan untuk mengelola lingkungan hidup dan meningkatkan pemberdayaan ibu-ibu PKK dalam mengelola lingkungan agar bersih dan asri. Kegiatan PKM terdiri dari: (1) FGD permasalahan lingkungan hidup dan peran para pihak; (2) sosialisasi kesehatan lingkungan; (3) pelatihan pertanian perkotaan memanfaatkan bahan pupuk hasil pengolahan air limbah; (4) pelatihan pembuatan biokoagulan dari biji kelor; (5) pelatihan penggunaan reaktor berpengaduk untuk mengolah air limbah usaha pemotongan ayam menggunakan biokoagulan biji kelor. Setelah pelatihan, ibu-ibu PKK mampu membuat biokoagulan dari biji kelor, sementara pemanfaatan teknologi tepat guna masih dipantau melalui pendampingan. Reaktor berpengaduk menggunakan 100 mL biokoagulan biji kelor mampu menurunkan kadar zat pencemar pada air limbah yaitu BOD menjadi 0,34 mg/L dan TSS 0,557 mg/L, sedangkan kadar COD masih melebihi baku mutu yaitu 640 mg/L. Dari hasil pengolahan diperoleh produk samping berupa lumpur dengan parameter COD 320 mg/L dan kekeruhan 475 NTU yang dapat dimanfaatkan sebagai pupuk sayuran dan tanaman hias. Luaran kegiatan PKM ini berupa inovasi teknologi tepat guna reaktor berpengaduk dengan biokoagulan biji kelor yang menjadi solusi pengelolaan lingkungan, peningkatan kemampuan kader PKK dalam pembuatan biokoagulan biji kelor dan pertanian perkotaan, publikasi di media massa dan artikel ilmiah, hak cipta dalam bentuk poster dan video, modul mata kuliah dan buku monograf, serta mahasiswa melaksanakan Belajar Merdeka-Kampus Merdeka dengan pengakuan 6 SKS (3 mata kuliah) pada semester berjalan.

Abstract

Air limbah greywater yang dihasilkan semakin meningkat seiring bertambahnya jumlah penduduk. Salah satu upaya untuk mengurangi beban beban yang berada di perairan diperlukan suatu pengolahan air limbah yang tepat guna. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui karakteristik air limbah greywater, menganalisis efisiensi penyisihan kinerja constructed wetland menggunakan tanaman akar wangi (Vetiveria zizanioides), menghitung konstanta tingkat penyisihan massa (r), konstanta tingkat penyisihan areal (kA) dan penyisihan volumetrik (kV). Penelitian ini menggunakan constructed wetland dengan pengaliran air limbah secara kontinyu dengan variasi waktu detensi yang digunakan yaitu 5, 10 dan 15 jam. Aklimatisasi tanaman dilakukan secara bertahap sampai dengan kondisi tunak (steady state) selama 10 hari. Karakteristik air limbah yang akan diolah memiliki nilai konsentrasi BOD sebesar 80,19 mg/L dan COD sebesar 244,27 mg/L. Efisiensi penyisihan dengan tanaman untuk parameter BOD sebesar 49,15-86,97 % dan COD sebesar 40,23-91,40%. Nilai konstanta penyisihan massa (r), tingkat penyisihan areal (kA) dan tingkat penyisihan volumetrik (kV) dengan tanaman untuk BOD sebesar 19,15-61,62 gr/m2/hari, 0,40-1,71 m/hari dan 3,38-30,56/hari dan untuk COD sebesar 53,19-196,13 gr/m2/hari, 0,37-1,63 m/hari, 2,57-36,80 /hari. Hasil kinerja constructed wetland dengan tanaman akar wangi efektif untuk menyisihkan parameter BOD dan COD dan telah memenuhi baku mutu yang telah ditetapkan dalam Peraturan Menteri Lingkungan Hidup dan Kehutanan No. 68 Tahun 2016 tentang baku mutu air limbah domestik.

Abstract

Ruang terbuka dan taman merupakan sarana penunjang pelayanan lingkungan permukiman. Kelurahan Kayuringin Jaya ditetapkan sebagai Sub-Zona Perumahan Kepadatan Tinggi. Terdapat lahan pada Zona Sarana Pelayanan Umum, secara spesifik adalah Sub-Zona Sarana Rekreasi dan olahraga yang belum termanfaatkan dengan baik oleh masyarakat RW 04 Kelurahan Kayuringin Jaya. Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat berupa penyuluhan bertujuan untuk meningkatkan pemahaman masyarakat mengenai kegiatan pemanfaatan ruang yang diizinkan pada Sub-Zona Sarana Rekreasi dan Olahraga serta menggali preferensi masyarakat mengenai potensi pemanfaatan lahan kosong yang berada pada lingkungan RW 04. Kegiatan penyuluhan dilaksanakan pada 20 Januari 2024 di Kantor RW 04 Kelurahan Kayuringin Jaya, Kota Bekasi dengan dihadiri oleh 40 peserta. Berdasarkan hasil evaluasi penyuluhan yang diperoleh dari kuesioner sebelum dan sesudah penyuluhan, terdapat peningkatan pemahaman peserta penyuluhan (dari 65% menjadi 100% peserta mengetahui) mengenai sub zona perumahan di RW 04 serta peningkatan pemahaman mengenai permasalahan lahan yang belum termanfaatkan pada lingkungan RW 04 (dari 85% menjadi 100% peserta mengetahui). Peserta penyuluhan juga berdiskusi mengenai potensi pemanfaatan pada lahan tersebut yang dapat dijadikan sebagai  sarana rekreasi seperti taman bermain ramah anak, sanggar seni atau olahraga, serta dapat menjadi lahan pertanian perkotaan. Tim pengabdian kepada masyarakat juga mengilustrasikan rancangan tapak pada lahan yang masih belum termanfaatkan di lingkungan RW 04 tersebut. Rancangan tapak telah mempertimbangkan bentuk kegiatan pemanfaatan ruang yang sesuai dengan peruntukkan sub-zona rekreasi dan olahraga.

Abstract

Industri tahu di Semanan, Jakarta Barat, menghasilkan air limbah dengan kandungan bahan organik tinggi yang meningkatkan kadar Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD), Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD), Total Suspended Solid (TSS), dan kekeruhan. Penelitian ini menguji efektivitas biji trembesi sebagai biokoagulan alami dalam menurunkan kadar pencemar organik tersebut. Percobaan dilakukan menggunakan metode jar test pada skala laboratorium dengan variasi dosis biokoagulan (1, 1,5, 2 gr/L), ukuran butiran 80 mesh, dan waktu flokulasi (10, 20, 30 menit). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa biji trembesi mampu menurunkan kadar pencemar dengan hasil penyisihan optimal pada dosis 2 gr/L dan waktu flokulasi 30 menit, dengan TSS turun dari 325 mg/L menjadi 213 mg/L (35%), COD dari 2.143 mg/L menjadi 552,72 mg/L (74%), BOD dari 600 mg/L menjadi 200 mg/L (67%), dan kekeruhan dari 271 NTU menjadi 170 NTU (37%). Penurunan ini menunjukkan bahwa biji trembesi mengandung senyawa fitokimia seperti tanin dan flavonoid yang efektif dalam proses koagulasi. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa beberapa parameter pencemar memenuhi baku mutu yang ditetapkan dalam Peraturan Menteri Lingkungan Hidup No. 5 Tahun 2014, namun belum sepenuhnya sesuai dengan standar yang lebih ketat yang ditetapkan dalam Peraturan Gubernur DKI Jakarta No. 69 Tahun 2013.

Abstract

The Drinking Water Treatment Plant (III) Karawang Branch was developed to increase production capacity and ensure an adequate water supply for the Karawang Service Area. The raw water for this plant is sourced from the West Branch North Tarum Channel (STUB) and has a design production capacity of 100 L/s. The design aims to implement optimal treatment processes to meet the required drinking water quality standards. This study investigates the selection of treatment units for the plant, focusing on raw water quality as the primary criterion to meet the drinking water standards stipulated by Ministry of Health Regulation No. 2 Year 2023. Key water quality parameters that do not meet these standards include total suspended solids (TSS), total dissolved solids (TDS), chemical oxygen demand (COD), biochemical oxygen demand (BOD), dissolved oxygen (DO), sulfide, color, detergent, fecal coliform, and total coliform. The selection of treatment units was conducted using the Water Quality-Based Approach, which considers specific contaminants in the raw water, along with the Literature-Based Approach, involving a review of existing water treatment plants and their efficiency in similar settings. The chosen treatment units include an intake system, hydraulic coagulation, hydraulic flocculation, sedimentation with plate settlers, dual-media rapid sand filtration, chlorination disinfection, and a ground reservoir for water storage. This study contributes to ensuring a sustainable and safe drinking water supply for the Karawang region through an integrated water treatment system.

Abstract

The rapid urban development of South Tangerang City, established under Law No. 51/2008, has led to significant challenges in municipal solid waste management. With a population density of 8,632 people/km² and daily waste generation reaching 972.628 tons, the city's existing landfill, Landfill Cipeucang, has experienced operational issues including a major waste slide in 2020 and ongoing community complaints about odors. These issues are exacerbated by the landfill's proximity to the Cisadane River, a critical source of drinking water, necessitating immediate action to ensure environmental and public health safety. Aim: This study aims to identify suitable alternative landfill locations to support the relocation of Landfill Cipeucang using spatial and technical criteria. Methodology and results: The method employs a spatial analysis approach through Geographic Information Systems (GIS), utilizing layering and buffering techniques based on parameters such as distance from settlements, water bodies, airports, disaster risk zones, and hydrogeological characteristics. Overlay analysis was performed to pinpoint optimal sites. The results indicated several candidate locations that meet all environmental and technical standards. Comparative evaluation among alternatives revealed the most appropriate site, considering accessibility, minimal disaster risk, and land suitability. These findings are consistent with recent landfill management research in Indonesia advocating for site relocation and innovation in waste handling. Conclusion, significance, and impact study: In conclusion, relocating the landfill based on systematic spatial and technical analysis is critical to achieving sustainable waste management in South Tangerang City and preventing further environmental degradation.

Abstract

Industrial waste that contains heavy metal can cause environmental problem because of its toxicity, persistency and accumulation level in the environment. Biosorption process is highly influenced by temperature, pH, light, contact time, and ratio of surface area. Microalgae which possess two functional groups that are able to react on metal ion in a solution can be exploited to overcome environmental pollution due to heavy metal compound. Closed cultivation system in a photobioreactor is utilized to overcome contamination and evaporation problems on open pond system. Heavy metal analysis is conducted by utilizing Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy (AAS), Fourier Transform Infra-Red (FTIR), and Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM). This article provides information on biosorption as alternative technology to overcome heavy metal in water areas with no side effects on the environment with advantages of the absence of secondary pollutants, high level of efficiency, and relatively economic compared to physic-chemical method heavy metal removal methods

Abstract

This study aims to design a domestic wastewater treatment plant for the West Karawang and East Karawang Sub-districts in Karawang Regency, where each sub-district has an area of 13.368 Ha and 2.977 Ha. In 2041, the Tunggakjati WWTP will have a capacity of 48,000 m3/day to serve a population of 404,568 people. The WWTP performance is designed so that the effluent complies with the Regulation of the Minister of Environment and Forestry No. 68 of 2016 concerning Domestic Wastewater Quality Standards for its BOD, COD, and TSS parameter. The biological treatment design consists of three (3) alternatives namely Oxidation Ditch, Complete Mixed Activated Sludge, and Aerated Lagoon, selected based on multi criteria with three (3) aspects, namely economic, environmental and technical aspects consisting of technological considerations, land availability and human resources to operate the technology. The selected biological treatment unit alternative is Aerated Lagoon, because it has high efficiency, human resources for operating the technology are already available, and ease of development. Based on multi criteria analysis all the alternative has high eligibility level to be chosen as technology for domestic waste water treatment. Alternative III, the Aerated Lagoon is the best alternative with the highest score of 60 compared to other alternatives, alternative I is 52.5 and alternative II is 57.5. That concludes the processing units on processing units at the Tunggakjati WWTP consist of collection wells, bar screens, grit chambers, equalization tanks, aerated lagoons, maturation ponds, and sludge drying beds.

Abstract

Liquid waste generated by the chicken slaughterhouse industry results in an increased concentration of organic matter decomposes in the environment. High organic matter content can be achieved by the coagulation-flocculation method. This study aims to determine the removal efficiency of turbidity, BOD, COD, and TSS in the reactor. A dose of 250 mL with a coagulation speed of 100 rpm 1 minute and a flocculation speed of 25 rpm 10 minutes with a variation of settling time of 1.5 hours, 2 hours, and 2.5 hours of moringa seeds were investigated to find reduction levels of turbidity, BOD, COD, and TSS. This study showed that moringa seed coagulants were able to reduce the BOD concentration by 87.74% with an initial level of 662 mg/L to 101.01 mg/L in 2.5 hours, a COD concentration of 61.43% with an initial level of 2240 mg/L to 864 mg/L at 2.5 hours, the TSS concentration was 77.78% with an initial level of 360 mg/L to 80 mg/L at 2.5 hours while the turbidity value was 87.73% with an initial level of 441 NTU to 54.1 NTU. Moringa seeds could be effectively used to reduce the parameters of turbidity, TSS, BOD, and COD.
