Abstract

Inflammation is a natural defense mechanism of the body against injury or disease; however, excessive inflammation can lead to various chronic conditions. Prolonged use of synthetic anti-inflammatory drugs is associated with adverse effects, creating a need for safer natural alternatives. One such candidate is the citrus benalu leaf (Dendrophthoe glabrescens (Blakely) Barlow), a parasitic plant rich in flavonoids, saponins, and tannins. This study aimed to evaluate the anti-inflammatory activity of ethanol extract from citrus benalu leaves in carrageenan-induced mice. A laboratory experimental design using a Randomized Pre- and Post-Test Control Group approach was employed with 25 mice divided into five groups: negative control (CMC-Na 0.5%), positive control (sodium diclofenac), and three treatment groups receiving citrus benalu leaf extract at doses of 100, 200, and 400 mg/kgBW, respectively. The extract was administered orally 30 minutes after carrageenan induction, and paw edema was measured every 30 minutes for 180 minutes. One-way ANOVA revealed significant differences among groups, and LSD post hoc analysis indicated that all treatment groups differed significantly from the negative control (p < 0.05) but not from the positive control (p > 0.05). The 400 mg/kgBW dose demonstrated the greatest efficacy, reducing paw edema to 3.08%. These findings suggest that citrus benalu leaf extract has promising potential as a natural anti-inflammatory agent, offering an alternative to synthetic drugs with fewer side effects.

Abstract

Bones are the body's framework that causes the body to stand upright, where the muscles are attached to allow the passage of blood vessels, where the bone marrow and nerves protect soft tissues. Traditional medicine is an effort to treat or treat other ways outside of medical science or nursing science. Indonesia is one of the countries that have the potential to develop medicinal plant cultivation and use it as an alternative treatment. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of herbal medicine and traditional therapy for bone and joint diseases. This study uses the method of literature study. The results showed that traditional herbal therapy for ball compresses, lemongrass warm compresses, cinnamon warm compresses, lavender aromatherapy warm water flower compresses, bangle rhizome compresses, and ginger warm compresses can be used for bone and joint diseases. Where there are compounds in herbal plants that have effectiveness as traditional medicine and therapy for bone and joint diseases, namely flavonoids, quercetin, curcumin, 6-gingerol and shogaol, alkaloids, steroids, and saponins.

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is a metabolic disease characterized by hyperglycemia resulting from impaired insulin secretion. Dewandaru fruit (Eugenia uniflora L.) contains flavonoids which act as free radical scavengers and reduce oxidative stress. This study aims to prove that the administration of ethanol extract of dewadaru fruit at doses of 200 mg/KgBW and 400 mg/KgB can reduce blood glucose levels and repair damage to pancreatic β cells in alloxan-induced male white mice (Rattus norvegicus) wistar strain diabetes mellitus. This study used 32 mice aged 2-3 months weighing 25 grams intraperitoneally induced by alloxan (0.5 ml/kg). Mice were divided into four treatment groups, namely K- (alloxan), K+ (glibenclamide), P1 (dose of dewadaru fruit extract 200 mg/kgBB), P2 (dose of dewadaru fruit extract 400 mg/kgBB) Quantitative data by calculating blood glucose levels and the number of pancreatic β cells were analyzed using Paired T-Test. P2 is the dose of dewadaru fruit extract 400 mg/kg BW. In the repair of pancreatic β cells it was stated that the average damage to pancreatic β cells at a dose of 200 mg/KgBB was 67.5 and at a dose of 400 mg/KgBW was 89.1. This study proves that the ethanol extract of dewadaru fruit is able to lower blood glucose and inhibit the rate of damage to pancreatic β cells in mice with diabetes mellitus. Abstract

Burns constitute a form of tissue damage and loss resulting from exposure to high-temperature sources, such as fire, hot water, chemicals, electricity, and radiation. Black turmeric (Curcuma caesia. Roxb) is identified as a natural remedy with empirical use for treating burns, owing to its composition of secondary metabolite compounds including alkaloids, flavonoids, and tannins. Topical formulations like creams and gels are commonly employed for burn treatment. This study focused on creating gel and cream formulations incorporating black turmeric extract at concentrations of 2%, 4%, and 8% to assess their effectiveness in burn wound healing. The objective was to investigate the impact of dosage forms on burn wound healing and identify the most efficacious preparation. Employing an experimental approach with a randomized pretest-posttest design involving a control group, the study comprised five test groups. Data analysis utilized the Kruskal-Wallis statistical test followed by post Mann-Whitney analysis. The results indicate that the dosage form significantly influences the healing of burns in white rats, with the gel containing 8% extract concentration identified as the most effective preparation.

Abstract

Latar Belakang: Diabetes Melitus merupakan penyakit kronis dimana terapi pengobatannya dilakukan seumur hidup dan membutuhkan biaya besar. Tersedianya berbagai jenis insulin yang diterima pasien baik tunggal maupun kombinasi dengan efektivitas terapinya menimbulkan variasi biaya baik biaya medis langsung, nonmedis langsung maupun nonmedis tidak langsung. Tujuan: Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui jenis terapi insulin yang paling Cost Effective baik tunggal maupun kombinasi sehingga diperlukan suatu penelitian mengenai analisis efektivitas biaya terapi insulin dengan menggunakan subjek penelitian pasien DM tipe 2 rawat jalan di salah satu rumah sakit Kabupaten Gianyar. Metode: Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif yang dilakukan secara retrospektif dari unit catatan rekam medis pasien DM tipe 2 rawat jalan di di salah satu rumah sakit Kabupaten Gianyar. Hasil: Hasil penelitian menunjukkan jenis terapi insulin kombinasi atau insulin tunggal yang digunakan untuk pasien DM tipe 2 beserta total biaya medis langsung tiap bulannya yaitu glargine 437.195 dan aspart 738.263. Sedangkan kombinasi insulin aspart dengan glargine 1.028.79, kombinasi lispro dengan glargin dan insulin glulisine dengan glargine menunjukkan biaya yang sama sebesar 738.246, kombinasi insulin aspart dengan detemir sebesar 835.106. Kesimpulan: Berdasarkan perhitungan ACER, terapi insulin yang paling cost-effective adalah insulin kombinasi yaitu insulin glulisine dengan insulin glargine 11.07 persentase efektivitas terapi.

Abstract

The immune system of the body targets the insulin-producing pancreatic cells, which results in diabetes mellitus. Synthesized antidiabetic drugs cause side effects of liver and kidney damage. Quercetin are known to have the same mechanism as synthetic antidiabetic drugs, so it can be an alternative treatment for diabetes. This article is a review with a literature search using PubMed, MDPI and Google Scholar. Quercetin activate AMPK which affects the decrease in blood glucose levels, protect cell damage due to free radicals so as to prevent a decrease in insulin levels and repair tissue damage due to hyperglycemia. Quercetin plays a role in reducing the risk of Type II DM complications. Quercetin compounds affect Type II Diabetes Mellitus with various mechanisms.

Abstract

Kesehatan dalam kehidupan sehari-hari perlu diperhatikan karena kesehatan mempengaruhi kinerja dalam aktivitas yang dilakukan oleh masyarakat, upaya dalam menjaga kesehatan seperti melakukan pencegahan dan pengobatan suatu penyakit. Usada Bali merupakan turunan dari Ayurweda yang merupakan bagian dari Upaweda, sedangkan Upaweda merupakan bagian dari Smerti (Suatama dkk 2019). Kunyit merupakan salah satu bahan obat tradisional untuk pencegahan dan pengobatan suatu penyakit yang digunakan oleh masyarakat secara empiris. Kunyit hitam (Curcuma caesia) merupakan salah satu spesies dari kunyit, bagian dari keluarga Zingberaceae, di India sering digunakan dalam pengobatan seperti penggunaan eksternal untuk keseleo dan memar (Baghel 2013). Kunyit hitam memiliki aktivitas farmakologi seperti antioksidan, antibakteri, antimutagenik, aktivitas sitotoksik dan berpotensi mencegah aktivitas Nuclear factor kappaB (NF- κB), sehingga kunyit hitam diharapkan dapat bermanfaat sebagai bahan obat alami dan menjadi alternatif pengobatan untuk meminimalisir efek samping dari bahan obat sintesis. Penulisan artikel ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui manfaat kunyit hitam sehingga dapat diharapkan sebagai salah satu bahan obat alami yang digunakan di Indonesia. Metode penulisan yang digunakan adalah studi literatur dengan menggunakan artikel terkait penelitian aktivitas farmakologi kunyit hitam yang diterbitkan 10 tahun terakhir. Jurnal yang digunakan merupakan jurnal yang bertaraf nasional maupun internasional yang berkaitan dengan aktivitas kunyit hitam. Pencariaan artikel dilakukan dengan cara mencari sumber artikel yang didapatkan dengan melakukan pencarian di Google scholar, PUBMED, Science direct, Proquest dan Portal Garuda dengan menggunakan kata kunci Curcuma caesia, kunyit hitam, aktivitas kunyit hitam.
