Abstract

Senduduk leaf flour (Melastoma malabatricum L.) is a processed product from weed plants that can potentially be a source of nutrients and bioactive compounds that are beneficial for human and livestock health. This research aims to examine the immunity and productivity of quail during the egg-laying period by administering senduduk leaf flour. This study used 120 female quail aged 40 weeks, which were kept for 4 weeks. The experimental design used was a Completely Randomized Design. The treatment of providing senduduk leaf flour in feed consisted of four treatment levels, namely P0 (without flour), P1 (feed + 1.5% flour), P2 (feed + 3% flour), and P3 (feed + 4.5% flour). The data were analyzed using Analysis of Variance and descriptive analysis. The results showed that adding senduduk leaf meal can reduce egg yolk cholesterol and increase quail immunity. Adding senduduk leaf meal at a 3% level produced the best immunity and performance, with a feed conversion value of 2.81. The 4.5% addition of senduduk leaf flour produced the lowest cholesterol level in quail egg yolk. Keywords: egg quality, immunity, performance, quail, senduduk leaf

Abstract

IPB D1 chicken is a local chicken resulting from crossing pelung, sentul, kampung, and parent stock broiler strain Cobb chickens. IPB D1 chicken was released through a decree by the Ministry of Agriculture with No. 693/KPTS/PK. 230.M/9/2019. Free-range is a system of raising farm animals, including chickens, by providing access to outdoor running (pasture) to exercise, find more feed, and be exposed to more oxygen. This study analyzed the carcass percentage, edible carcass, non-edible carcass, and chemical quality of IPB D1 chickens raised in a free-range system. A total of 50 IPB D1 male chickens were raised in free-range and intensive systems for four weeks. The microclimatic data were analyzed descriptively. Meanwhile, carcass percentage and physicochemical and organoleptic properties of IPB D1 chicken meat were subjected to a t-test. Free-range and intensive systems showed no significant effects on the carcass, commercial cuts, edible and non-edible percentages, and MDA quality traits of IPB D1 male chicken thigh meat. The cholesterol content of IPB D1 thigh meat in a free-range system was significantly lower than in an intensive system Keywords: carcass, free-range, IPB D1 chicken, cholesterol, MDA

Abstract

Moringa leaf powder is a processed product derived from the Moringa tree (Moringa oleifera L.). It contains a rich source of phytonutrients that are effective antioxidants that enhance the health status of humans and livestock. This study assesses quails' physiological performance and productivity during the production period when supplemented with Moringa leaf powder in their feed. The measured parameters include hematological values, stress indicators, performance, and egg chemical quality. The ‘study used 120 female’ quails aged 7 weeks, reared for 4 weeks. A Completely Randomized Design (CRD) was employed, consisting of four levels of dietary treatments and three replications. The supplementation of Moringa leaf flour was administered through feed for 28 days at each treatment level. ‘Data were analyzed using’ ANOVA (Analysis of Variance) and descriptive analysis. The results indicated that the addition of Moringa leaf flour in feed could maintain physiological performance, improve health status, reduce cholesterol levels in egg yolk, and increase iron (Fe) content in egg yolk. The best results in this study were obtained at a supplementation level of 7.5% Moringa leaf flour. The conclusion of this study is that Moringa leaf flour is feasible as a feed supplement at a dosage of up to 7.5%. Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the influence of bandotan (Ageratum conyzoides L.) leaf extract on the production performance and physicochemical quality of quail eggs raised in tropical settings with ambient temperatures that exceed the comfort zone. A total of 200 female quails aged 6 weeks were reared in colony cages for 30 days. They were separated into four treatments with five replications, each with ten quails. Bandotan leaf extract was administered in dosages of 0%, 0.15%, 0.30%, and 0.45% per quail daily. The parameters measured included feed intake, feed conversion, egg production, egg mass, mortality, egg physical quality, and cholesterol and malondialdehyde (MDA) levels in egg yolks. Adding bandotan leaf extract to drinking water significantly improved quail production performance (p < 0.05). A dose of 0.30% resulted in the highest feed consumption, output, and egg mass, as well as significantly lower mortality rates, indicating its effectiveness in boosting the productivity and health of laying quails. Although it did not have a significant influence on the physical quality of eggs, administration of the extract at that dose significantly reduced MDA levels, egg cholesterol levels, and boosted antioxidant activity (p < 0.05). This demonstrates that bandotan leaf extract at a dose of 0.30% is beneficial in improving the production performance and chemical quality of heat-stressed quail eggs while preserving their physical quality. Abstract

Probiotics are microorganisms that are non-pathogenic and beneficial for health when used in certain doses through the mechanism of increasing the function of the small intestine in chickens. This study aims to analyze the effect of adding the probiotic Lactobacillus plantarum IIA-1A5 to feed to improve the body's immune system, production performance, and egg quality in laying hens aged 49‒52 weeks. The experimental design used was a Completely Randomized Design (CRD). The treatment for adding the probiotic Lactobacillus plantarum IIA-1A5 to feed consists of four treatment levels, namely P0 (without probiotics), P1 (feed + 8.1 x 106 cfu/g or 1 g/kg feed), P2 (feed + 2.43 x 107 cfu/g or 3 g/kg feed), and P3 (feed + 4.86 x 107 cfu/g or 6 g/kg feed). The results of the study showed that administering the probiotic Lactobacillus plantarum IIA-1A5 in feed could reduce Escherichia coli bacteria in the small intestine of laying hens. Giving the probiotic Lactobacillus plantarum also had a significant effect (P<0.05) on feed consumption and egg yolk color. The addition of the probiotic Lactobacillus plantarum IIA-1A5 in feed can increase animal resistance, performance, and quality of chicken eggs. The use of probiotics with a treatment level of 1 g kg-1 feed (8.1 x 106 cfu g-1) showed the best results. Keywords: heat stress, laying hens, probiotic
