Abstract

This research aims to: (1) analyze the role of critical thinking of grade V students in Science learning using Cooperative Problem Based Learning model, (2) analyze the role of interpersonal intelligence of grade V students in Science learning using Cooperative Problem Based Learning model as reflected on the Science learning outcome, (3) and acknowledge the influence of critical thinking and interpersonal intelligence of grade V students on their learning outcomes in Science learning using Cooperative Problem Based Learning model. This research used mixed method concurrent embedded. The samples of this research were the students of grade V of Tunon 1 and Tunon 2 State Elementary Schools. The data were taken through observation, test, interview and documentation. The results showed that the critical thinking of grade V students in Science learning using cooperative problem based learning model gave positive and significant impact of 36.3% on the outcome of Science learning. Students with high critical thinking skill tend to have high learning outcomes, students with moderate critical thinking skill tend to have moderate learning outcomes, and students with low critical thinking skill tend to have low learning outcomes. Students who have interpersonal intelligence skill in Science learning using cooperative problem based learning model gave positive and significant impact of 34.0% on the outcome of Science learming. Students with high interpersonal intelligence skill tend to have high learning outcomes, students with moderate interpersonal intelligence skill tend to have moderate learning outcomes, and students with low interpersonal intelligence skill tend to have low learning outcomes. Grade V students’ critical thinking skill and interpersonal intelligence together affected their learning outcomes of Science by 53.7%, and the remaining was 100% - 53.7% = 46.3%. Both the critical thinking skill and interpersonal intelligence were complementary abilities in achieving optimal learning outcomes of Science.

Abstract

The objectives of the study is to explain the functions of counting methods used in music ensemble lessons as extracurricular activities in an elementary school. This study applied a qualitative approach. This study took place in SDN 4 (Public Elementary School 4) Godong, Grobogan, Central Java. The data of study was collected using observations, interviews, and documentation techniques. The data of the study was validated using triangulation points of resource and technique. The data was analyzed using data collection, reduction, presentation and conclusion techniques. The result of the study shows that counting method is a method that a teacher can use to make ensemble music easier for pupils to learn. In this method, the teacher uses counting symbols to make it easier for pupils to learn the materials. The steps used are determining songs, which will be played to know the bars of the song, to write the counting and the symbols, to explain the meaning of each symbol, and to play the instruments while counting individually or in a band. The evaluation of ensemble music learning was taken in a simple performance of the pupils. The evaluation of the music ensemble learning using counting method shows that pupils master the material, music instrument playing technique, as well as positive attitudes show by them.

Abstract

Education is the spearhead of the progress of a nation. One factor in the formation of quality education must be balanced with quality of learning so that it has an effect on good student learning outcomes. The purpose of this research was to find out the benefit of numbered heads together (NHT) model assisted with audio visual media on the material of story elements in improving student learning outcomes of grade V. Data collection techniques was done by using learning outcomes test. The processing of the moderator variable test was done by using SPSS statistics 25 with moderated regression analysis technique with the first analysis by using the F test and the second analysis by using the R square value. The results showed that (1) the NHT model and audio visual media simultaneously influenced the student learning outcomes as evidenced in the F test of 0.000 < of the probability of 0.05; (2) the NHT model affects student learning outcomes by 38.9%, while the remaining 61.1% is influenced by other variables outside this regression; (3) The NHT model with audio visual media affects student learning outcomes by 58.4%, whereas, the remaining 41.6% is influenced by other variables outside this regression.

Abstract

The learning process of Social Science (IPS) in Elementary School has not been yet optimum because teachers lacked knowledge about the contextual approach, had limited learning resources, namely teaching materials as well as the inability to develop teaching materials. Therefore, this study attempted to produce Central Java local wisdom-based contextual Social Science teaching materials with the theme of “Indahnya Kebersamaan” (The Beauty of Togetherness) for the fourth grade level of Elementary School (SD). This study employed Research and Development (R & D) method with the trial design of pre-test and post-test control group. Meanwhile, the data analysis technique used to examine the effectiveness of the teaching materials was N-Gain test by comparing pre-test and post-test scores of the experimental class and the control class. Further, the results of this study showed that: (1) there was a need on the development of Social Science teaching materials which could be used as learning resources to improve the Social Science learning quality in Elementary School. Additionally, the developed teaching materials were declared valid by having the average score of 84.38 with very valid criterion and very well applicable, (2) the characteristics of the developed teaching materials contained 7 components of the contextual approach which utilized Central Java local wisdom, and (3) the effectiveness test of the teaching materials showed that the experimental class achieved higher cognitive learning outcome with the N-Gain value of 0.46 than the control class of 0.19. In conclusion, the developed teaching materials can be used by teachers and students as learning resources in the learning process of Social Science to improve its quality.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effectiveness of text-based Javanese language learning (text-based instruction) through communicative integrative approaches to student writing skills. This research method is an experimental study with a quasi-experimental design. The population of this study was class V Public Elementary School Tambakaji 05, Ngaliyan District, Semarang City in 2018/2019 with a sample of 43 students. Data collection used in this study for students' writing skills was measured using a performance test method with an instrument in the form of a learning implementation plan (RPP) and a performance sheet. Student confidence is measured by the non-test method in the form of observation sheets and documentation. Analysis of data used an independent sample t-test. The results showed as follows: there was an increase of 9.76 points higher in students' writing skills using Javanese text-based learning through an integrative approach. Learning Javanese text-based (Text-Based Instruction) through a communicative integrative approach is more effective in improving students' writing skills. The conclusion of the research is the learning of text-based Javanese language (Text-Based Instruction) through communicative integrative approaches effective in enhancing students' writing skills. The Javanese text-based learning model (Text-Based Instruction) through communicative integrative approach can help students who have difficulty learning Javanese texts.

Abstract

This research aimed to analyze the effectiveness of audio-visual media and serial images toward the improvement of the knowledge of sex education in early childhood. The research method used in this study was Mixed Method. Quantitative approach was used to obtain the effectiveness level of learning video media and serial images. The finding of this research expressed that the implementation of audio-visual media and serial images were still ineffective to be implemented through the learning activity. Those leaning media had the attractiveness, but students cannot optimally receive the message delivered. The effectiveness in this study was marked by the value of Sig. (2-tailed) 0.889 which was bigger than 0,05 (p > 0.05). The result of t-test independent sample testing concluded that the use of learning video and serial images was not effective to improve the knowledge of sex education in early childhood. It means that, there were no differences in the use of learning video and serial image toward the knowledge of early childhood sex education assigned in the value of t-count which was -0.140 with the probability Sig. (2-tailed) 0.889. Meanwhile, the qualitative approach was used to explain the ineffectiveness of learning video media and serial image.

Abstract

This research aims to improve students’ critical thinking skill using Problem Based Learning assisted science comic book media. This is a Classroom Action Research (CAR) with 2 cycles. The research subjects were 29 students in VB class of State Primary School (SPS) 1 of Todanan. The research data were obtained through observation and tests of critical thinking skill. Based on the observation result, student’s critical thinking skills have increased on: (1) elementary calarification by 15%; (2) basic support by 17%; (3) inference by 8%; (4) advanced clarification by 8%; (5) strategies and tactics by 11%. The result of test on critical thinking skill in cycle 1 was 62.06% of the passing grade. In cycle 2, it classically increased by 79.29%. Based on the data analysis, it was concluded that Problem Based Learning assisted with science comic book media can be used to improve the critical thinking skills of VB students of SDN 1 Todanan.

Abstract

2013 curriculum regulates learning to be adjusted to surrounding living environment of students. Therefore, thematic Textbook with local wisdom insight should be developed by providing contextual examples. This research aims to develop thematic Textbook with local wisdom insight oriented to science literacy and environmental care characteristics. This mixed method research used explanatory design. The quantitative data was analyzed by pre-experiment typed one shot case study. The qualitative data was analyzed by flow analysis, consisting of reduction, presentation, and conclusion of the data. The data collection was done by interview, questionnaire, and test. The findings were, an interesting thematic Textbook with local wisdom insight to be learned by students since it provides contextual and detailed examples based on the materials and learning by using thematic Textbook with local wisdom insight could improve learning outcome as proven by t test. It showed tcount > ttable 5.661 > 1.67469. Thus a thematic teaching book with insightful local wisdom can be interesting to use in learning. The learning book have valuable benefit to introduces, students to the natural potential in its environment.

Abstract

Motivation has a strategic role in one's learning activities; besides, parents' socio-economic conditions also affect the educational process. This study aimed to find out the relationship between learning motivation and socio-economic status of parents with science learning achievement. This research used post facto method with a quantitative research design. The research data from 85 students was taken using questionnaires and tests. Testing the instrument was done by testing the validity and reliability testing. The data analysis technique used descriptive analysis, analysis prerequisite test, hypothesis testing. The results showed a relationship between learning motivation and parents’ socio-economic status that affected science learning achievement. The results of the linearity test showed that the learning motivation Fcount was 0.664 > 0.05, the economic status of the parents was 0.977 > 0.05, so the learning motivation and economic status of the parents towards learning achievement were linear. The results of hypothesis testing using the t test obtained t count of 4,875 and t table of 1,988, then t count > t table. It can be concluded that partially the motivation to learn and parents' socio-economic status has a strong relationship with science learning achievement.

Abstract

The ability to think critically is an important component in facing the era of society 5.0. There needs an effort to optimize these abilities for students in the context of learning in elementary schools. The purpose of this study was to analyze the effectiveness of the Think Talk Write (TTW) cooperative learning model on students' motivation to learn high-order thinking skills. The type of research used is quantitative research with a quasi-experimental type. Data collection techniques used higher-order thinking skills tests, questionnaires, interviews, and documentation. The data analysis uses quantitative analysis techniques. Quantitative data analysis techniques include independent sample t-test and paired sample t-test. The research subjects were 76 students. The results showed that the TTW type of cooperative model was effective against learning motivation and higher-order thinking skills. This is indicated by the higher-order thinking average score in the experimental class is higher than the average score in the control class. This research concludes is that learning with the TTW cooperative model is effective and has a positive effect on students' learning motivation and higher-order thinking
