Abstract

Febjislami S, Kurniawati A, Melati M, Wahyu Y. 2019. Morphological characters, flowering and seed germination of the Indonesian medicinal plant Orthosiphon aristatus. Biodiversitas 20: 328-337. Orthosiphon aristatus (Blume) Miq is a popular medicinal plant in Southeast Asia. The morphological variation of O. aristatus is narrow and information on flowering and seed germination is limited. This study aimed to determine the morphological characters, flowering and seed germination of O. aristatus. The study was conducted on 19 accessions (ex situ collections) of O. aristatus from West, Central and East Java. It was found that the differences in morphological and flowering characters were mainly based on shape and color. The dominant stem color is strong yellowish green mixed with deep purplish pink in different proportions. The dominant leaf shape was medium elliptic. O. aristatus flower has three kinds of colors: purple, intermediate and white (the most common color). O. aristatus has heterostyled flower with a long-styled morph. The stigma has two shapes: open and close (the dominant shape). The open and close stigma was found in Tuban accession, the open stigma was found in Pamekasan accession. O. aristatus accessions have a narrow diversity of 84% similarity rate. O. aristatus started flowering at 4-5 weeks after planting and blooming 2-3 weeks later. O. aristatus seeds begin to germinate on the fourth day and take about eight days to grow from seedling to become complete sprouts. Count I ranged from day 5-6 and count II on days 10-11. Tuban accession has the highest germination rate of 72.97%. The results of this research can be considered as new information, regarding information about the diversity of morphological, flowering characters and the ability of O. aristatus seed to germinate.

Abstract

Abstract. Vidal MC, Setiawan A, Wahyu Y. 2019. RAPD based genetic diversity, agronomic characters, and nutrition content of Timor Leste kidney bean (Phaseolus vulgaris) genotypes. Biodiversitas 20: 2612-2619. The productivity of kidney beans (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) in Timor Leste is relatively low and needs to be improved. The increase in kidney bean yield through plant breeding, however, can only be obtained if information the genetic diversity of breeding materials is available. This study aimed to characterize agronomic characters, to assess genetic diversity and nutrient content of kidney bean in Timor Leste. The materials used in this study were 13 Timor Leste and 2 Indonesian genotypes as controls. The experimental design for the field trial was a complete randomized block design with three replications. The treatment was 13 kidney bean genotypes. The results showed that there were significant variations in agronomic characters among the genotypes tested. Result from phylogenetic trees based on the Random Amplified Polymorphic DNA (RAPD) indicated that the genetic material understudied can be grouped into three main groups. The Indonesian genotype belongs to a different group from Timor Leste genotypes. Direct selection based on seed yields produced the best eight East Timor genotypes, TL-RO3, TL-LUN, TL-LM, TL-R10, TL-LL, TL-RW, TL-LB, TL-LB, and TL-Umabano. The nutritional content of the kidney bean genotype from Timor Leste was similar to that of the Indonesian genotype. The carbohydrate content of the Timor Leste genotype was considered high (average = 59.95%), while the average fat content is low (1.71%) and the average protein content was quite moderate (18.08%).

Abstract

Abstract. Sas MGA, Wahyu Y, Syukur M, Hidayat P. 2021. Morpho-agronomy performance, seed nutrition content, and Aphis craccivora resistance of cowpea (Vigna unguiculata) genotypes. Biodiversitas 22: 4320-4326. Cowpea (Vigna unguiculata subsp. unguiculata) is an agricultural commodity that can be a source of vegetable protein and replace the need for soy as a food ingredient. The wide adaptability under sub-optimum conditions placed cowpeas as the choice to be developed. This study aimed to evaluate the cowpea genotype’s agronomic performance and resistance to Aphis craccivora to be proposed as superior genotypes. Observations were made on the morpho-agronomic characters, including the color of the young pods and dry seeds, the number of pods, the productivity of fresh pods and dried seeds, and the nutrition content. The resistance to Aphis craccivora was evaluated using a no-choice test whole plant for the resistance and tolerance evaluation. This study showed that the productivity of young pods (4.86-15.13 tons ha-1), dry seed productivity (0.83-2.71 tons ha-1). The protein content differed significantly among the 20 genotypes ranging from 19.24% to 24.45%. Aphid infestation significantly inhibited plant growth compared with non-infested plants. Infestation of Aphis craccivora decreased the dry weight of the plant by about 20% to 70%. Based on the aphid population, the 20 genotypes were classified into medium-high to very high aphid damage intensity.

Abstract

Abstract. Nuraeni E, Wahyu Y, Trikoesoemaningtyas. 2021. Selection of wheat (Triticum aestivum) lines for the high altitude of Indonesia based on single- and multi-character adaptation. Biodiversitas 22: 5530-5535. The high demand for wheat in Indonesia encourages the assembly of wheat varieties adaptive to the tropical environment. The increase in wheat diversity has been carried out through the crossing process, and it is necessary to evaluate the adaptability of the genotypes resulting from the cross. This study aims to obtain information on the adaptation classes of the F5 population and the differential of agronomic character selection in single and multi-character selection. The study was conducted at the BB Biogen Experimental Garden, Ciwalen (925 masl), in August-December 2020. The F5 of HP1744/Selayar population was used as genetic material with two comparison varieties, namely Guri 1 and Guri 3. The adaptation class for a single character was determined based on seed weight per plant, while for multi-character based on the characters with a wedge between the high category heritability value and the correlation coefficient ?0.5. The result showed that the number of florets, seed weight per plant, number of tillers, number of productive tillers, and weight of seeds in the main panicle were selected as a reference for multi-character selection. The t-test showed that the adaptive and highly adaptive classes genotypes had higher yields than the comparison varieties. The selection differential shows an increase in the mean value for all reference characters. The adaptation class based on a single character resulted in a higher average value of seed weight in all classes compared to selection based on multi-character.

Abstract

Abstract. Syukur M, Sahid ZD, Sobir, Maharijaya A, Ritonga AW, Yunandra, Sulassih, Istiqlal MRA, Hakim A, Wahyu Y, Vicente TM, Mukhlisin, Agustina K, Yursida, Muslimin K, Hafsah S, Nura, Setyawan A. 2022. Yield evaluation of curly chili lines in three lowland locations.Biodiversitas 23: 3219-3223. Yield evaluation of curly chili lines in three lowland locations. Increased consumption of spicy food is the latest trend in the 21st century. Curly chili as a type of chili that has a spiciness that is acceptable to the community is needed to meet consumer needs. This study aims to identify the growth, fruit, and yield components of several genotypes of curly chili. The study was conducted in multi-location at four planting sites. Each location used a randomized complete block design (RCBD) with three replications. Each replication used ten sample plants. Neno IPB as a chili variety produced by breeding has a faster flowering and harvesting time than all other genotypes. In addition, the productivity of Neno IPB was high and consistent in all cultivation locations. The results of the pheatmap analysis show that Neno IPB was one group with commercial varieties (Laris and Kastilo F1). A significant positive correlation based on Pearson's analysis was shown in the combination of flowering time-harvesting time, fruit length-fruit weight, and fruit weight per plant-total fruit per plant-productivity. However, flowering time-harvesting time-fruit weight per plant showed a significant negative correlation.
