<![CDATA[The purposes of this study are to find out politeness strategies and the dominant politeness strategies in Short Message Service (SMS) text of the students of English period 2008 sent to the lecturers of English from March to May 2012. This study applies qualitative research. Using documentation method, the data are collected from the lecturers' mobile phone by making permission from the lecturers to send the students' SMS that they received to the writer' mobile phone. The data are analyzed using Brown and Levinson's politeness theory (1987). The results reveal that there are four politeness strategies in students' SMS- Bald on Record (BOR), Positive Politeness (PP), Negative Politeness (NP), and Off Record (OR). Negative politeness strategy is dominantly used by the students. But the students' SMS cannot reflect appropriateness in their interpersonal communication to lecturers since the SMS of the students of English period 2008 sent to the lecturers are not consistent with Brown and Levinson's politeness theory, that lower status members tend to be relatively indirect (polite) in their communication to higher-status superior.]]>

<![CDATA[Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menginvestigasi dan menggambarkan fenomena speech acts yang digunakan oleh Barrack Obama ketika berada di The White House tanggal 27September 2013 mengenai konflik di Syria dan penutupan pemerintah federal. permasalahan penelitian ini adalah bagaimana speech act digunakan oleh Obama serta fungsi setiap ucapannya. Metode kualitatif deskriptif (konten analisis) digunakan untuk melaksanakan penelitian ini. data diambil dari transkrip perkataan Obama dalam konflik di Syria dan penutupan pemerintah federal di White House pada tanggal 27 September 2013. Dalam menganalisa data, setiap ucapan diidentifikasi dengan menganalisa berdasarkan pada aspek-aspek linguistik. Setiap ucapan diidentifikasi dengan menganalisa tipe bentuk dan arti ucapan dan mengumpulkan data komunikasi secara obyektif, sistematis, dan deskriptif. Berdasarkan hasil penemuan, speech act digunakan oleh Barrack Obama bisa dijabarkan berikut ini: pertama, peneliti tidak menemukan yang terdeklarasi. Bahkan, ucapan Obama kebanyakan dalam bentuk tegas (representatif), peringkat berikut termasuk dalam komisif, direktif dan ekspresif. Pada waktu yang sama, fungsi ucapan lebih tergolong pada kolaboratif. Sedangkan posisi berikut termasuk dalam konfifial (ramah) dan kemudian kompetitif. Penelitian ini memberikan saran terhadap peneliti selanjutnya untuk menganalisa percakapan, debat atau dialog yang sejenis yang bertujuan untuk menginvestigasi teori speech act. Walaupun banyak bidang dalam pragmatik seperti strategi kesopanan, implikatur, dan deixis (pilhan kata).]]>

<![CDATA[PRODUCTION INNOVATION 'JELLY SIWALAN DRY' FOR EXTENDING THE ENDURANCE OF FRUIT CONSUMPTION Anggia Kalista, Krishna Tri Sanjaya, Agus Wardhono. ABSTRACT Siwalan is the fruit of a palm tree which a lot of growing up in the City of Tuban. The fruit is less favored because of quick foul and difficult to eat it. The author tried to expand the innovation and introduced it to society how the way of consuming Siwalan practically, effectively, one of them is to process it into candy 'Dried Jelly Siwalan'. The purpose of this innovation is to so extend the duration of consumption of Siwalan to be able to survive more than one month at room temperature and two months in the fridge without preservatives. Dried Candy Jelly Siwalan is made from natural ingredients and interesting colors, this is intended to increase the interest of consumption of society in particular children and tourists who effect on the creation of business opportunities for the improvement of the economy of the community. The purpose of this program is to develop the Tuban Regency Tourism systemby using website because this can make it easier for people who really need it in finding tourism objects in Tuban.We used an observation as the first instrument by observing Tuban regency from many sides, interviewedsome tourists which visited Tuban more than once, and read some articles from journals and books.The role of Communication and Information Technology Department in Tuban Regency is a key to successin Tuban Smart City in 2021. <![CDATA[AbstrakPenelitian ini bertujuan untuk menilai seberapa praktis dan efektif model pembelajaran English For Specific Purpose (ESP) berbasis ICT dalam meningkatkan kemandirian belajar mahasiswa. Penerapan model pembelajaran dilaksanakan di Prodi Pendidikan Ekonomi dan Prodi pendidikan Bahasa Inggris Unirow Tuban. Pengumpulan data menggunakan instrumen pengamatan, kuesioner, dan tes. Pelaksanaan analisis data mempergunakan statistik deskriptif untuk uji kepraktisan dan keefektifan. Hasil analisis data menunjukan keterlaksanaan model tergolong tinggi (praktis). Keefektifan penerapan model pembelajaran berbasis ICT terlihat pada 5 aspek yaitu pengelolaan pembelajaran, aktivitas belajar dan kemandirian belajar mahasiswa tergolong tinggi; ketuntasan belajar individual dan klasikal tercapai, mahasiswa merespon positif terhadap penerapan model pembelajaran berbasis ICT.Kata Kunci: Kepraktisan, keefektifan, e-learning, ICT.]]>

<![CDATA[Ghe aims of this study to determine the implementation of inquiry based learning strategy in learning speaking on the materials speaking for specific purpose and analyze students' responses to the implementation of inquiry based learning strategy. This research is a type of field research, and the approach used is qualitative approach. The researcher obtained data by using the technique of observation checklist, questionnaires, and documentation. Then the researchers’ classified the data according to the identified problem. In addition, the data were compiled and then analyzed by using descriptive analysis method. The results of this study indicate that the implementation of inquiry based learning strategy in learning speaking can be implemented well in accordance with the existing concept. Implementation was done through the activities of students looking for or digging information about learning materials, teacher provide stimulus and motivation to students followed by giving questions to students by teachers. The next step teacher provide opportunities to students in turns to provide responses or practice a conversation have discussed by students in pairwork, and at the end of the lesson teacher provide learning conclusions and reinforcement of learning materials that have been implemented. Students’ response to the implementation of strategy inquiry based learning positive about the strategy applied in learning. It make student learning outcomes become increased.]]>

<![CDATA[Life is a gift, so it must be fought for and always ready to face various challenges, in any situation and condition. The order of life is changing and the problems are getting more complex with the covid 19 outbreak. These problems bring tension or pressure, in general many people experience an imbalance, although there are still some who do not experience an imbalance. Parents, especially housewives, are very vulnerable to stress, this condition must not be allowed, it must be faced and managed, resolved in a way that is healthy and harmonious. The target of counseling is for the guardians of group B Muslim Kindergarten students at NU I Tuban. Submission of material is carried out by lecture and question and answer methods. The purpose of community service is to be able to recognize and be able to manage stress properly, healthy and harmonious and able to choose activities that are positive and useful. The results of the implementation of the extension went well and smoothly, the response was good, the indicators of the success of the counseling were many questions and even most of them tended to vent, and there were still many who misunderstood the meaning of stress and crazy.]]>

<![CDATA[This study is related to the cohesion applied in the novel The Museum of Innocence by Orhan Pamuk. The investigation is focused on the utterances produced by Kemal when talking with Fusun. This paper aims to examine what grammatical and lexical cohesion are used and how these cohesions relate to each other. Because the data were collected in the form of utterances, descriptive qualitative research was applied, and to get a clear understanding of the phenomena that occur in the novel, a content analysis was used. The results showed that Kemal used references, substitutions, ellipsis, and conjunctions in the heading grammatical cohesion and repetition, synonyms, and antonyms in the lexical cohesion heading when talking with Fusun. From these findings, it can be concluded that Kemal’s utterances were constructed through grammatical cohesion and lexical cohesion. Regarding the type of grammatical cohesion, reference is the most dominant, and referring to the type of lexical cohesion, repetition is more often used by Kemal. So it can be said that cohesion analysis plays an important role in creating meaning in communication.]]>

<![CDATA[The poem “Nothing Gold Can Stay” by Robert Frost illustrates how fleeting life is. Its rhyme arrangement (aa bb cc) demonstrates the poem’s brilliance. Based on the usage of figures of speech, this analysis illuminates the poem’s meaning. From the analysis, it is found out that: First, Frost succeeds in using figures of speech proportionally. Second, Frost underscores that nothing in our lives—nothing ideal, lovely, youthful, or pure—can ever endure. ]]>

<![CDATA[Language is the most important aspect to support humans in communicating. In communication, people need to understand the meaning of language. Language and context are two inseparable things. In a given context, it is important for listeners or recipients to understand what the speaker meant to say or express. Deixis shows a phenomenon that requires contextual information to understand the meaning of certain words or phrases in their pronunciation. Deixis can be found not only in daily conversations, but also in speeches, films, songs, novels, and the like. This research focuses on deixis in the film Chernobyl in characters that play an important role in the course of the story. The purpose of this study is to find out kinds of deixis that are found in the movie script and to determine the dominant types of deixis. The researchers use descriptive qualitative methods to collect data and have been assisted byAtlas.ti software in data coding. The theory of Levinson is used by the researchers to analyze the type of deixis. In this study, the most dominant deixis is the person deixis (450), the second dominant deixis is place deixis (57), and the third is time deixis (48), followed by discourse deixis (36), and the last is social deixis (26).]]>
