Abstract

AbstractEncroachment of protected forest known as ngawen in Jembrana is a violation against theforestry laws, potentially harming the forests and infringing the basic idea of feminism. Inthat respect, this paper is going to examine the strategies and implications of the activity inthe perspective of ecofeminism. In perspective of ecofeminism, it is obvious that ngawenactivity is carried out with a strategy reflecting the anthropocentrism and androcentrism. On the one hand, it implicates the increasingly severe destruction of protected forest; whileon the other hand, it implies a less equitable gender relation in the domestic socio-economicaspect of the pengawens’ household.

Abstract

As a social being, people will socialize through communication using language as a medium. The decision to choose a language or use one of the language codes depends on the perceived cost or benefit he will get. This paper is intended to describe communication patterns and preferences for language use especially within a culture where another language is dominant. It is a sociolinguistic study using descriptive qualitative methods on the Muslim diaspora community in the village of Angantiga, Badung Regency who had lived in Bali province in Indonesia for more than a generation. The data were collected through questionnaires, in-depth interviews, and direct observation. The results show that there is a relationship between language use in various domains and self-identity. As a diaspora community they are very accommodating and show language tolerance to maintain communication and interpersonal relationships. The language convergence is carried out in order to seek approval or social recognition from the surrounding community. It can foster tolerance to build social harmony in the midst of diversity.

Abstract

This article intends to discuss the phenomenon of cultural disruptions due to globalization and the industrial revolution 4.0 which have paradoxical consequences for empirical life and in the academic world, especially in the field of anthropology. This study uses a library method with interpretive analysis techniques. The results concluded that globalization and the industrial revolution 4.0 had fundamentally changed the order of the people's cultural values. This is a challenge for anthropology to reflect on epistemology and axiology as a logical consequence of changes in the ontology. In the context of Indonesia, the presence of anthropology is expected to be able to explore the plurality of national culture that can be narrated on the academic stage. At the same time, it can be also a productive cultural capital to overcome the challenges of diversity, becoming a driver of change, and strengthening national identity.

Abstract

Marriage in general is closely related to the two foundations of community life, namelyculture and religion. Culture is a very important traditional wedding ceremony, because traditional marriage will still exist in a cultured society. The traditional marriage system of the Lamaholot ethnic group has a hereditary culture, namely the traditional marriage of belis bala. Belis bala is a sacred aspect for the Lamaholot ethnicity, where men cannot undermine a woman's dignity. This study aims to determine: (a) The perspective of the younger generation on the belis bala in the Lamaholot ethnic traditional marriage system and (b) the inculturation of the church towards the traditional Laamaholot ethnic marriage system. Supported by Marcel Mauss' theory of reciprocity in compiling this research and the research model was made with the type of qualitative research, including data collection by observation, interviews, literature study and data analysis to process research results. The results of this study indicate the perspective of the younger generation, namely, there are some of them who feel heavy belis bala and want relief, but some others consider the traditional marriage system of belis bala as a challenge for them to be able to have their idol girl. They still want to maintain this traditional belis bala marriage system. The church sees this as a tradition that must be maintained. The church follows the regulations made by the village government for the preservation of the belis bala marriage system.
