Abstract

ABSTRACT Bivalves and gastropods are two classes in the mollusk phylum which have the largest number of species compared to other classes. Organisms in this class are protected by a thick coat called a shell made from CaCo3 (calcium carbonate). The flesh of these organisms is used as food, while the shells are thrown away and sometimes not used, until they accumulate and become waste. Processing of shell waste has been carried out to fulfill various people's lives, including in the pharmaceutical, food industry, agriculture and craft industries. Handicrafts utilize various shell shapes with beautiful colors to produce several valuable products. This activity was carried out to guide and improve the skills of female fishermen in making handicrafts made from shell shells. This community service activity was carried out in Ranooha Raya Village, Moramo District, South Konawe Regency, and involved a partner group, namely a group of fishermen women who were still productive. The results of the service activities are handicrafts in the form of women's accessories such as brooches, key chains and bracelets. Keywords: Handycraft, shellfish waste, Ranooha Raya Village.

Abstract

The role of seagrass beds as permanent habitat for marine biota, including macrozoobenthos. Macrozoobenthos are sessile biota that live at the bottom or in sediment and attach to plants. The aim of this research is to determine the composition and abundance of macrozoobenthos in Wakambangura Village waters. The macrozoobenthos collection method uses a 100 m line transect towards the sea using a shovel with a cross-sectional area of 30x40 cm. The research locations are spread across 3 stations, Station 1 Weta Beach, Station 2 Mbelabela Beach and Station 3 residential areas. As a result of the research, 24 macrozoobenthos species were found consisting of 5 classes, namely 15 species from the Gastropoda class, 5 species from the Bivalvia class, 1 Asteroides species, 1 Ophiuroidea species and 2 species from the Crustacea class. The Gastropoda class dominates with a macrozoobenthos composition value of 70.59%. The highest abundance of macrozoobenthos was found at station 2 with an abundance value of 292 Ind/m2, then the lowest abundance was found at station 3 with an abundance value of 108 Ind/m2. The highest species abundance was found in the species Cerithium rostratum with an abundance of 108 Ind/m2.

Abstract

Tanggetada Village has significant fisheries potential, yet it remains underutilized by local fishermen. This is attributed to several factors, including limited infrastructure and the fishermen group’s lack of knowledge. Additionally, during poor weather conditions, fishermen lack alternative livelihoods beyond capture fishing. Therefore, aquaculture can serve as a viable solution to maintain their productivity. This community engagement initiative aims to enhance the knowledge and skills of the fishermen group in integrated aquaculture sistems using floating net cage construction. The activity was implemented in Tanggetada Village, Kolaka Regency, in collaboration with the Malaja Biru fishermen group. The methodology consisted of several stages: socialization, training, mentoring, and evaluation. The results of this activity demonstrated significant improvements in the knowledge and skills of the Malaja Biru fishermen group regarding integrated aquaculture in floating net cages. Twenty participants actively engaged in the outreach, training, and cage construction. Evaluation showed a knowledge increase from 50% to 100% and skill proficiency reaching 90–100%. Intensive mentoring and technology transfer methods effectively enhanced fishermen’s capacity, enabling them to independently and sustainably cultivate grouper, lobster, and pearl oysters using integrated aquaculture systems. It can be concluded that the 2024 Kosabangsa community service program successfully enhanced the capacity of the Malaja Biru Fishermen Group in Tanggetada Village through training in integrated aquaculture using floating net cage systems..

Abstract

Abstract

This program adopts an integrated, community-based approach, in line with national conservation policies for marine areas and small islands, to support the blue economy and community food security. Key activities include seagrass transplantation, beach cleanups, and fish floss training for housewives, designed with active community participation in mind. The community service activities were conducted from September 13 to October 13, 2025, in Soropia District, Konawe Regency. Through four main programs: seagrass transplantation, beach cleanups, fish floss production, and the installation of warning signs prohibiting fish bombing, this activity successfully raised public awareness of the importance of maintaining marine ecosystems and coastal cleanliness. Furthermore, this program also encouraged the sustainable use of natural resource potential, opened new economic opportunities through processed seafood products, and strengthened the community's sense of responsibility for the environment.
