Abstract

The increasing incidence of diabetes mellitus among individuals of productive age requires special attention, as poor self-management can reduce overall quality of life and productivity, especially in productive age groups with work, social, and family demands, which can affect adherence to self-management. Although self-management theoretically influences quality of life, the relationship between the two is still debated by researcher. This study aims to determine the relationship between self-management and quality of life in productive-age type 2 diabetes. The study used a cross-sectional design conducted from December 2024 to June 2025. The study population was 132 productive-age type 2 diabetes mellitus patients, with a sample size of 63 respondents selected through a purposive sampling technique. The instruments used were the Revised Version of Diabetes Quality of Life Instrument (DQoL) to assess quality of life and the Summary of Diabetes Self-Care Activities (SDSCA) to assess self-management. Data were analyzed univariately and bivariately. The results showed that more than half of respondents (63.5%) had a high quality of life and more than half (52.4%) had good self-management. Statistical tests using chi-square showed a p value = 0.017 (p < 0.05), which means there is a significant relationship between self-management and quality of life. These results indicate that the better the self-management, the higher the quality of life of productive-age type 2 diabetes patients. Therefore, it is recommended that health workers can intervene in diabetes management by paying attention to psychosocial aspects, including coping strategies, education for the social environment, and counseling to reduce the emotional burden on patients.

Abstract

Palm oil waste management is a major challenge in palm oil-producing areas, including Pematang Obo Village. Poorly managed palm oil waste can cause environmental pollution, such as soil and water contamination, and produce unpleasant odors that disturb the community. To address these issues, the Pematang Obo Village community has developed a palm oil waste composting process, offering an environmentally friendly and beneficial alternative to waste management. The composting process involves collecting waste such as fibers, fronds, and fruit skins, then crushing them to facilitate their decomposition. The waste is mixed with additional organic materials such as rice bran and livestock manure, then undergoing a fermentation process for 2 to 3 months. The final product is nutrient-rich compost that can be used to improve soil fertility. The use of this compost not only reduces the negative impact of palm oil waste on the environment but also helps increase agricultural productivity for the Pematang Obo Village community. In addition to its ecological benefits, compost cultivation also provides social and economic benefits, such as reducing the cost of purchasing chemical fertilizers and opening up new business opportunities for villagers. Utilizing palm oil waste into compost in Pematang Obo Village is a cheap,

Abstract

This study shows a significant relationship between physical activity and blood pressure among hypertensive patients at Andalas Health Center, Padang City, where increased physical activity is associated with decreased systolic and diastolic blood pressure, with p-values of 0.000 and 0.001, respectively. The average physical activity of respondents was categorized as moderate (805.87 MET-minutes/week), while blood pressure was in the stage I hypertension category. The characteristics of respondents were predominantly female, with a mean age of 54.96 years; most had a family history of hypertension and experienced stress, which also influenced blood pressure conditions. These findings indicate that physical activity is an important factor in controlling hypertension. Therefore, efforts are needed to increase regular physical activity through education and health programs to prevent further complications. In conclusion, there is a significant relationship between physical activity and blood pressure in hypertensive patients, so increasing physical activity can be an effective strategy to reduce blood pressure. It is recommended that healthcare providers enhance education and promotion of regular physical activity for hypertensive patients and encourage the adoption of a sustainable healthy lifestyle through community health center programs such as routine exercise and health counseling, in order to help control blood pressure and prevent further complications.
