Abstract

This research aims to analyze the relationship between film festival themes and students' interest in participating in the Jogja Student Film Festival (FFPJ). On the one hand, the theme of a film festival provides guidance about the films that will be competed in the festival, on the other hand, the theme can also limit students' freedom in expressing ideas or ideas through film works. Restrictions on a theme may reduce interest in participating in the festival. This research uses descriptive qualitative methods. Data was taken from interviews and FFPJ documents from 2010 - 2021. Data analysis was descriptive qualitative. The research results show a clear pattern trend, namely the relationship between themes and the number of film works included in FFPJ. When FFPJ has a free theme, the number of film works tends to increase. When FFPJ has a theme determined by the organizer, the number of films included in FFPJ decreases. Students seem to prefer making films to express their ideas or concepts according to their themes rather than having to make films according to the themes desired by the organizers.

Abstract

This study discusses the discourse of sexual violence in the short film Demi Nama Baik Kampus and the short film Please Be Queit to find out the representation of women as victims of sexual violence in the film. This study uses qualitative methods and Sara Mills' critical discourse. Based on its form, critical discourse analysis is divided into 3, namely the position of the subject-object and the position of the reader by selecting scenes that are considered representative. The findings of the analysis show that the position of the subject is carried out by a female character named Sinta who is a victim of sexual violence by her supervisor in the campus environment in the short film For the Good Name of the Campus. Whereas in the short film Please Be Queit played by Sarah who is considered a victim of sexual violence in the work environment. The position of the object is described as an actor that supports the subject's motion. Meanwhile, the writer positions Sarah and Sinta as parties who confirm the incident, so that the text is from the point of view that Sinta and Sarah experienced. The reader's position cannot change the discourse written by the author, because the reader cannot provide arguments to the writer, if there is no discrepancy in the content of the film's discussion.

Abstract

The Impact of Covid-19 Pandemic Toward Film Festival; Case Study on Jogja Student Film Festival 2020. The Covid-19 pandemic poses a big challenge for the sustainability of film festivals as a space for the distribution and appreciation of student works in Indonesia. The Jogja Student Film Festival (FFPJ), which has been taking place since 2010, faced an extraordinary situation in 2020 when the organization had to transform from an offline format to an online format. This study aims to describe the adaptation process of FFPJ management throughout the pandemic and identify the driving factors for these changes. A qualitative descriptive approach is used with data collection techniques in the form of documentation, structured observations, and interviews with founders, judges, volunteers, and festival participants. The validity of the data is maintained through source triangulation while the analysis is carried out using the management function theory framework (POAC). The results of the study show that strategic adaptation and the use of digital technology allow the sustainability of the festival without permanent sponsors, while still prioritizing aspects of critical literacy and appreciation space for young filmmakers. FFPJ organizers and communities have shown the ability to maintain the existence and regeneration of the student film community even in crisis conditions. Keywords: Student's Film Festival, Covid-19 Pandemic, Existence

Abstract

This study investigates Padang Ampera restaurants in Bandung as visual archives of Minangkabau cultural memory, navigating urbanization and consumer culture through visual branding. Using a qualitative interdisciplinary approach integrating cultural memory, visual branding, and urban design, it examines design elements like façades, paluang, and ornamentation in Bunga Tanjung, Salero Bagindo, and Saudara Kembar. Findings reveal that these elements enhance authenticity and emotional resonance, preserving Minangkabau identity while appealing to urban lifestyles. The study proposes a cultural branding model that weaves memory, identity, and storytelling, contributing to design practices that balance heritage and modernity. This model supports sustainable cultural preservation in urban culinary spaces but is limited by its focus on Bandung, suggesting broader regional studies. The research advances understanding of how visual branding and culinary display sustain cultural heritage in dynamic urban contexts

Abstract

This research explores imagination therapy as a creative method aimed at providing visual therapy for ten schizophrenic clients, referred to as "chosen people." Utilizing the concept of hyperreality, the therapy seeks to reactivate cognitive abilities and minimize delusions and hallucinations. Hyperreality is constructed from imagined data, drawing from clients' personal documents, archives, and daily life elements, such as songs, objects, and routines. Imagination therapy integrates clients' unrealized stories, desires, and imaginations with hyperrealistic visuals through collaborative sessions. The process involves repeated evaluations to refine visuals based on client preferences and feedback, ultimately culminating in the creation of a visual lab. The therapy’s effectiveness is assessed using the PANSS (Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale), measuring symptom changes over time. The findings indicate that imagination therapy not only fosters confidence in clients’ ability to process their expectations but also helps reactivate cognitive functions and empower desires. The concept of hyperreality proves essential in enhancing self-confidence and enabling clients to realize their deepest desires, contributing to their overall mental health recovery. This study highlights the potential of using artistic and technological methods in schizophrenia treatment.

Abstract

Padang Ampera restaurants, as diaspora manifestations of Minangkabau culture in urban Java, do not merely display decorative visual elements for commercial attraction. Their logos, colors, spatial markers, ornaments, halal labels, and typographic choices function as a system of signs through which identity is communicated, negotiated, and legitimized This study integrates Islamic aesthetics to explain the ethical and formal boundaries of visual expression with cultural semiotics to interpret branding as a cultural text. To achieve this objective, a qualitative descriptive-analytical approach was implemented, involving field observations at 45 Padang Ampera restaurants across Bandung, Yogyakarta, and Malang, alongside in-depth interviews with 15 informants, including 5 owners and 10 patrons. These methods allow for a systematic decoding of how Minangkabau memory, Islamic values, and the social meaning of hospitality are materialized in contemporary commercial spaces. Through this combined framework, the branding of Padang Ampera restaurants can be understood not only as a marketing strategy but also as a signifying practice that transforms everyday commercial space into a visible expression of Muslim cultural identity. This article contributes to Islamic anthropology in at least three ways. First, it extends the discussion of Islam beyond ritual and doctrinal domains into the sphere of everyday material culture by showing how Islamic values are embodied in visual branding practices. Second, it demonstrates that restaurants can function as vernacular sites of religious-cultural expression, where design choices become a medium for articulating piety, propriety, and communal identity. Third, it highlights how Minangkabau migrants in Java negotiate continuity and adaptation through visual symbols that are both commercially effective and culturally meaningful. In this sense, the study offers a practical contribution by showing that branding in Muslim cultural enterprises may operate not only as an economic instrument but also as a medium of cultural transmission, identity preservation, and ethical representation in diaspora settings.

Abstract

This study examines the dimensions of social criticism and creative character in his works, formulates learning principles derived from them, and offers a conceptual framework aligned with current digital education. This qualitative descriptive study is based on a research and development framework. Nine selected YouTube episodes and interviews with media and education experts were used as the main data sources. The analysis shows that Rizky Riplay's animated works not only combine humor, irony, and cultural fusion for entertainment, but also serve as a critical reflection of efforts to strengthen moral awareness. Based on these findings, six pedagogical principles were identified that emphasize contextual creativity, humor-based learning, visual literacy, participatory engagement, and ethical reflection. The findings of this study show that digital animation by local artists serves as a structured creative-critical educational model that is connected to cultural identity and educational innovation. Theoretically, this study broadens the understanding of creative learning and practically contributes to critical media literacy in the context of arts and cultural education. The findings of this study indicate that digital animation by local artists serves as a structured model of creative-critical education that is connected to cultural identity and educational innovation.
