Abstract

This study discusses the position of zakat within the perspective of positive law in Indonesia, focusing on the relationship between religious obligations and compliance with state law. Zakat, as a religious obligation in Islam, is normatively regulated in the Zakat Management Law; however, its implementation is not yet fully legally binding. The research employs a normative legal method with statutory and conceptual approaches. The results show that zakat is still positioned as a moral and religious obligation rather than a legal obligation enforced by state sanctions. Nevertheless, there are opportunities to strengthen regulations and integrate zakat into the national legal system to enhance its role in social and economic development.

Abstract

Coconut, particularly coconut water, serves many purposes in people's lives. Coconut water is generally consumed with the young fruit, but old coconut water is frequently discarded into the environment. Therefore, integrating coconut water into a product has a high economic value. The aims of this community service is to process coconut water into nata de coco by empowering the community through training for PKK members. This program's methodology included partner problem analysis and the available problem-solving strategy, which consists of counselling, training, and collecting data. The implementation of this activity resulted in numerous benefits, particularly increased public understanding of the role of coconut water in daily life, such as its nutritional value, processed products such as nata de coco, and other advantages. Based on the data collected, it is known that all participants have differing levels of knowledge about nata de coco products, namely 10% of participants know very well, 30% of participants know, and 12% of participants know little. However, 58% of participants were totally ignorant that coconut water is the starting material in nata de coco. Following the training, all participants understood that coconut water was the raw material in nata de coco. On the other hands, 75% of the participants were very understanding, 20% were quite understanding, and only 5% had a basic understanding of how to make nata de coco. These findings indicate that the solution of the activities carried out is extremely effective in increasing the participants' understanding and interest in making nata de coco, which can encourage the creation of "home industry" based jobs in the community, particularly in Tiroang Village.

Abstract

The non-parametric regression model can consider two correlated responses. However, for these conditions, we cannot use the usual estimation process because there are violations of assumptions. To solve this problem, we use a penalized weighted least square involving knots, smoothing parameters, and weighting in the estimation criteria simultaneously. The estimation process involves a weighted criteria matrix in the estimation criteria. Estimation results show that the estimated two-response non-parametric regression function with penalized spline is a linear estimation class in y response observation and depends on the knot point and smoothing parameter. Furthermore, the use of the model on toddler growth data shows some changes in the pattern of weight and height gain. The pattern segmentation that experienced a gradual increase was age 7-43 months for weight and age 6-54 months for height

Abstract

Areca leaf sheaths are underutilized waste but have a high cellulose content of 72.27%, so they can be utilized for bioethanol production. This research aims to utilize areca leaf waste for bioethanol production through acid (HNO3 5%) and alkaline (NaOH 10%) pretreatment processes, enzyme hydrolysis, and fermentation. Pretreatment using 5% HNO3 and 10% NaOH solutions is carried out because it can break down the lignin bond and release it from cellulose and hemicellulose fibers. The enzymatic hydrolysis process uses cellulase enzymes at 37 °C for 48 hours to produce glucose. Glucose content analysis uses the DNS method and UV-Vis spectrophotometry instruments because it is accurate and can detect glucose in low concentrations. The fermentation process is carried out using Saccharomyces cerevisiae as a fermentation microorganism because it has high efficiency in bioethanol production for a duration of 3, 5, and 7 days. Based on the results of the analysis, pretreatment with HNO3 5% solution reduced the level of lignin in areca leaf sheaths by 2.31%. Meanwhile, pretreatment using a 10% NaOH solution lowered lignin levels to 1.81%. Reduced sugar levels after hydrolysis after pretreatment with HNO3 5% and NaOH 10% were 25.08 mg/mL and 16.37 mg/mL, respectively. The highest concentration of bioethanol in the 5% HNO3 pretreatment was achieved on the 7th day at 16.75%, while that of 10% NaOH on the 5th day was 14.75%. This difference is influenced by the availability of fermentable sugars, where HNO3 substrates take longer to decompose by S. cerevisiae than NaOH substrates. Based on the analysis, the bioethanol contains ethanol, thus the areca leaf sheath fibre feedstock has the potential to assist in the advancement of a sustainable biorefinery process that can reduce dependence on fossil fuels and increase added value.

Abstract

This community service program was carried out for students of SMA IT Al Utsaimin Bangkinang with the main objective of providing education on Islamic contracts (akad-akad syariah) and the development of Islamic economics. This activity is considered important since students’ understanding of the basic concepts of Islamic economics varies, thus requiring systematic efforts through non-formal learning outside the classroom. The methods used in this activity included counseling, presentations, and interactive discussions. The counseling sessions aimed to provide a basic understanding of the principles of Islamic contracts, presentations were used to showcase the development of Islamic economics in Indonesia and globally, while the discussions allowed students to ask questions and clarify their understanding of the material delivered. The results of the activity indicated that the community service program was successfully implemented and carried out in accordance with the planned schedule. In general, students showed great enthusiasm in participating, although their levels of understanding differed. Some students already had a good grasp of Islamic contract concepts, some were still uncertain, and others had not yet fully understood the material. The achievement of the program’s objectives can be considered positive since all activities were successfully conducted with the support of collaboration between the school, the facilitators, and the business owners involved

Abstract

Water contamination from heavy metals, such as Cu(II) ions, poses severe threats to human health and the environment. This necessitates the development of efficient and eco-friendly treatment methods. In this study, a magnetite–biochar composite (MBC) was developed as an effective adsorbent for reducing Cu(II) ions from liquid waste. Biochar was produced through the pyrolysis of water hyacinth at 500 °C, while magnetite was synthesized using FeSO₄·7H₂O and FeCl₃·6H₂O with molar ratio of 1:2. The MBC was formed using a co-precipitation method and characterized by Fourier transform Infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction (XRD), Brunauer–Emmett–Teller, and vibration sample magnetometer instruments. FTIR analysis confirmed the presence of Fe–O bonds, and XRD detected Fe₃O₄ peaks, confirming the successful integration of magnetite into the composite. The MBC exhibited a surface area of 72.54 m²/g and a saturation magnetization of 19.10 emu/g. Optimal Cu(II) ion adsorption occurred at pH 6 and a contact time of 60 min. Adsorption kinetics followed the pseudo-second-order model, and isothermal analysis aligned with the Sips model, indicating an adsorption capacity of 75.73 mg/g. These results demonstrate MBC’s excellent potential as a sustainable and effective adsorbent for treating Cu(II)-contaminated wastewater, offering an environmentally friendly solution to heavy metal pollution.
