Abstract

This study aims to describe parents' perception of the adverse influence of the online game Roblox on elementary school students, focusing on four dimensions: social, academic, financial, and psychological. This study uses a qualitative approach with a phenomenological study. The data source consists of primary data, namely the parents of three elementary school students who are active Roblox users, and secondary data in the form of supporting documents. The data collection techniques used were semi-structured in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation. The instruments are in the form of interview guides and observation sheets. Data analysis is carried out including data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing and verification. The results of the study showed that parents perceive the bad influence of Roblox as an interrelated syndrome. In the social aspect, Roblox is perceived to shift children's interactions to the virtual world and disrupt family communication. In the academic aspect, this platform is considered a major distraction from concentration and a trigger for procrastination. On the financial aspect, concerns include uncontrolled transactions and the internalization of consumptive value based on virtual social status. On the psychological aspect, parents observe emotional lability and early symptoms of dependence, where the child's emotional well-being becomes highly tied to the experience in the game. It was concluded that parents perceive Roblox not as just entertainment, but as a complex digital ecosystem that simultaneously has the potential to socially isolate children, disrupt academic achievement, distort financial understanding, and threaten their psychological stability.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the legal culture and the existence of women in grassroots democratic contestations in Sumenep Regency. Legal culture refers to the perceptions, attitudes, and behaviors of the community toward prevailing laws, which are often influenced by social, cultural, and historical factors. The existence of women in grassroots democratic contestations is crucial, as women play a vital role in social and political development at the local level. This research employs a qualitative approach, utilizing data collection techniques such as in-depth interviews, participatory observations, and document studies. The findings reveal that, despite growing awareness of the importance of women's participation in grassroots democracy, structural and cultural barriers still constrain their roles. Key obstacles include a strong patriarchal culture, limited access to education and information, and a lack of support from the social environment.Nonetheless, there are local initiatives striving to strengthen women's roles through various empowerment and legal education programs. Efforts to enhance women's participation in grassroots democracy in Sumenep Regency must adopt a holistic and sustainable approach, focusing not only on legal aspects but also on social and cultural transformation.Based on the research findings, it is recommended that local governments strengthen affirmative policies supporting women's involvement, expand access to political and legal education, and promote cross-sectoral collaboration in creating inclusive and gender-responsive participatory spaces. The active role of civil society organizations is also crucial in fostering legal culture change and enhancing women's leadership capacity at the local level.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the indicators of Sekolah Ramah Anak (SRA)/Child-Friendly Schools (CFS) in primary education and examine their implications for gender equality content. The study is grounded in the observation that the SRA framework generally emphasizes safety, protection, participation, health, and inclusiveness, yet has not adequately integrated gender as an explicit analytical dimension. In fact, the primary school environment constitutes an important space for shaping children’s social experiences, including gender relations, participation, self-expression, and access to equitable learning spaces. This study employed a qualitative approach using a systematic literature review design. Data were collected through a review of academic databases and relevant policy documents, and were analyzed using thematic analysis combined with a critical gender lens. The findings indicate that the dominant SRA indicators include safe and protective environments, anti-discriminatory practices, child participation, health and well-being, and inclusive education. However, most of these indicators are still formulated in neutral terms and remain insufficiently sensitive to capture gender-based inequalities in children’s school experiences. Further analysis reveals that gender bias may manifest in teaching practices, classroom participation patterns, the use of school facilities, and social relations that shape children’s experiences differently. Therefore, this study recommends the reconstruction of SRA indicators to make them more explicit, contextual, and transformative by positioning gender equality as a cross-cutting principle embedded in school policy, governance, infrastructure, participation, and pedagogical practices in primary education. These findings affirm that a truly child-friendly school is not only administratively safe, but also experientially just for all children.

Abstract

Covid-19 has a broad impact on educational institutions, this outbreak brings various real challenges in various aspects, one of which is in the world of education. On the other hand, if viewed from the positive side, this outbreak can provide a unique opportunity to test students' preferences in situations where those who initially did face-to-face learning were replaced with blended learning systems. Blended learning is currently being discussed because the learning process in the classroom tends to be boring and the development of technology is increasingly widespread. Blended learning is a learning implementation system that combines the advantages of e-learning, the advantages of face-to-face, and practice. This learning integrates technology and online learning materials with conventional face-to-face classroom activities. However, in its implementation, blended learning still requires the application of interactive learning media so that learning objectives can be achieved optimally. This study aims to determine; (1) knowing the relevance of applying blended learning during limited face-to-face meetings in elementary schools; (2) to determine the application of interactive learning media used with blended learning-based learning systems. The method used in this study is a qualitative description method using the type of literature study research, namely by collecting literature data, reading and taking notes and processing research materials. The literature collected is literature that meets the inclusion criteria, which contains elements of keywords in blended learning, interactive media, and elementary school. Keywords: Blended learning, interactive media, elementary school

Abstract

Knowledge and preparedness in facing natural disasters is very important, especially for students who are in disaster-prone areas such as the coastal area of Kenjeran, Surabaya. Based on interviews with the principal and teachers at SD Muhammadiyah 9 Surabaya, it is known that the low understanding of students and teachers about disaster mitigation triggers feelings of anxiety and fear about potential disasters that could occur at any time. To overcome this problem, this research implemented Virtual Reality (VR) technology as a medium for disaster mitigation education at SD Muhammadiyah 9 Kenjeran. VR technology was chosen because of its ability to provide a simulation experience that is close to real situations, so it is hoped that it can increase students' and teachers' understanding and resilience in facing crises. This service aims to provide counseling and outreach to teachers and students with VR learning media at SD Muhammadiyah 9 Kenjeran Surabaya. The approach to solving partner problems is to focus on students' understanding of disaster mitigation with VR-based education and the impact of post-disaster psychological problems. The research results show an increase in students' understanding of disaster mitigation measures, as well as an increase in self-confidence in facing disaster threats after implementing VR. Another positive impact is a reduction in students' anxiety and fear levels, which shows that VR-based simulations are effective in preparing students to face emergency situations. The conclusion is that the use of VR technology as a medium for disaster mitigation education can be an effective alternative for increasing students' readiness in facing disasters in coastal areas.

Abstract

This study examines how local communities interpret news about the Mount Semeru eruption on social media. It argues that disaster news constructs meaning through language, visuals, and framing, rather than merely conveying facts. Media portrayals often dramatize disasters, creating a gap between media representations and local experiences. While existing studies tend to focus on media production or textual analysis, this research positions affected communities as active agents in meaning-making. In doing so, it addresses the limited scholarship on community-based disaster reception in Indonesia. Using a qualitative approach, in-depth interviews were conducted with residents of Sumber Mujur Village, Candipuro District, Lumajang Regency, East Java, following the eruption (January–February 2022). The analysis is guided by Stuart Hall’s encoding–decoding framework to explore how communities interpret and respond to disaster news. The findings identify three decoding positions. First, a negotiated reading of the “Rumini died beside her mother” report, where the event is accepted but the emotional framing is questioned. Second, a dominant-hegemonic reading of the “house intact from the eruption” report, interpreted through religious values as a symbol of hope despite its simplification of the disaster. Third, an oppositional reading of the “Semeru lava can cause a tsunami” report, which is rejected as hyperbolic, geographically inaccurate, and potentially panic-inducing. This study demonstrates that community reception is not passive but actively negotiates media meaning within local socio-cultural contexts. It extends encoding–decoding theory by grounding it in disaster communication at the community level in Indonesia, and highlights the importance of context-sensitive, non-exaggerative, and victim-centered reporting.

Abstract

Sex education in elementary schools is still perceived as a taboo topic and, therefore, has not been systematically integrated into the curriculum and instructional materials. This condition potentially creates gaps in students’ understanding of bodily autonomy, social relationships, and self protection from sexual violence. This study aims to analyze the implementation of sex education in elementary schools and to explore the need for developing supplementary learning media to address the limitations of existing textbook content. This research employed a descriptive qualitative method with a case study design. The research subjects consisted of teachers and school principals. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews and content analysis of Natural and Social Sciences (IPAS) textbooks. The research instruments included an interview guide and a document analysis checklist. Data were analyzed using thematic analysis for interview data and content analysis for documents through coding, categorization, and meaning interpretation stages. The findings indicate that sex education is generally delivered indirectly and primarily focuses on reproductive health, while topics related to body privacy, gender equality, and child protection remain limited in textbooks. These findings highlight the urgency of developing a smart book as a contextual, interactive supplementary learning medium aligned with children’s developmental stages. The implications emphasize the importance of integrating sex education and developing learning media to strengthen child protection.

Abstract

The intersection of religious authority and political power presents critical governance challenges in Muslim-majority societies, yet systematic comparative frameworks remain limited. This study examines the political agency of religious elites, kyais in Madura, Indonesia, and ulama in Iran, across two structurally distinct institutional contexts: a democratic-electoral system and a theocratic-constitutional system. Using a Most Different Systems Design (MDSD), this study treats religious elites as the primary unit of analysis, addressing cross-level comparability between Madura as a subnational region and Iran as a nation-state at the actor level rather than the systemic level. A qualitative comparative case study within an interpretivist-constructivist paradigm was employed, drawing on interviews, participant observation, FGDs, and document analysis across four regencies in Madura (November 2023–May 2024), supplemented by expert consultations for the Iranian context. Findings reveal two fundamentally divergent trajectories: Madura exhibits pragmatic-electoral engagement producing significant regional variation, while Iran demonstrates constitutional institutionalization through the Wilayat al-Faqih doctrine. Three distinct actor network configurations were identified: hierarchical-institutional (Iran), multipolar-informal (Bangkalan), and pluralistic-deliberative (Sumenep). Paradoxically, religious elite political engagement reinforces exclusive governance practices in both contexts, intensifying clientelism in Madura while generating complex dual accountability structures with limited public participation in Iran. This study proposes that governance quality under religious elite agency is mediated by institutionalization, ideological coherence, and actor network configuration, with direct relevance to SDG 16.
