Abstract

This study aimed to reveal the semantic grammatical errors in the translation of various Arabic sentences into Indonesian. This study used a qualitative descriptive method with a content analysis model. The data sources in this study were five different Arabic sentences translated by the teacher who taught the heritage book in Islamic boarding schools, namely: jumlah muṡbatah (positive sentences), jumlah manfiyah (negative sentences), jumlah istifhamiyah (interrogative sentences), jumlah syarṭiyah (conditional sentence), and jumlah al-qasam (sentence of oath). After analyzing and discussing the data obtained, the researcher found that there were 70% morphological errors in the translated text results consisting of 51% noun errors (isim) and 19% verb errors (fi'il). Additionally, the researcher found 76% syntactic errors from the translated text, consisting of 10% word errors, 9% phrase errors, 29% clause errors, and 28% sentence errors.

Abstract

This article examines the types of directive speech act in the book Al’arabiyah Bayna Yadayka, and its values of Arabic culture. This study was motivated by the lack of students’ understanding of Arabic culture, whereas they are prospecting to be Arabic teachers. To examine this issue we used a descriptive method with critical discourse analysis, comparative analysis, and pragmatic analysis which is based on Grice’s and Leech’s theories. The data analysis found that in the Al’Arabiyyah Yadayka Baina there are 93 types of questions using directive speech, 8 of solicitation, 9 of petition, 9 of offers, 2 of rejection, and 1 of prohibition.  The directive speech contains the traditions and values of Arab and Islamic cultures, i.e the Arabic speech system which is directive, assertive, and straightforward, the use of insya Allah phrase, the holiday traditions, the worships, the tradition of similar speech opponents, the factual topics, and the topics in the Islamic laws. This tradition constitutes the principle of cooperation and politeness. This Arabic communication and the Islamic values must be taught to the Arabic students to improve their multicultural competence and the Islamic values.

Abstract

This study investigates the phenomenon of Arabic–Indonesian code-mixing within a Muslim community WhatsApp group through a sociolinguistic and critical discourse analysis (CDA) perspective. It aims to describe the forms of code-mixing, explore their social functions, and analyze the ideological meanings underlying the use of Arabic in online communication. Employing a qualitative approach with a case study design, the research focuses on one WhatsApp group consisting of 87 active participants. Data were collected through participant observation, documentation of group conversations, and semi-structured interviews to obtain in-depth and contextual information. Data analysis was conducted in two stages: typological analysis of code-mixing (Muysken, 2000) and critical discourse analysis based on Fairclough (2013). The findings show that insertion  is the dominant form of code-mixing, followed by alternation  and congruent lexicalization. The use of Arabic serves expressive, interactive, and symbolic functions, reinforcing religious identity, solidarity, and community cohesion. This phenomenon reflects the adaptation of classical diglossia into the digital context termed “digital diglossia” while simultaneously strengthening Islamic social, moral, and ideological values. The study contributes to the advancement of digital sociolinguistic research in Indonesia, deepens the understanding of Arabic as an index of identity, and provides practical implications for Arabic language learning based on social and digital cultural contexts.

Abstract

This study explores phonological errors in the pronunciation of Arabic scriptural references by participants in the Islamic Fest 2024 speech contest, analyzing underlying psycholinguistic factors. Employing a descriptive qualitative approach with phonetic and psycholinguistic perspectives, data were collected from two purposively selected participants' speech videos. Analysis involved an observe-and-note technique complemented by Praat software to examine acoustic features. Findings reveal two primary categories of phonological errors: linguistic errors, stemming from inadequate mastery of letter articulation points (makhraj) and vowel length (mad), and performative errors, driven by psychological pressures like nervousness and cognitive load within the competitive context. Both error types influence the conveyed meaning of scriptural references, potentially leading to semantic ambiguity. This study recommends developing da'wah (Islamic preaching) training programs that integrate phonetic, psycholinguistic, and semantic approaches to enhance pronunciation accuracy and semantic clarity in religious communication.

Abstract

Arabic holds a special position in the history of Islamic civilization because it functions not only as a means of communication, but also as a medium for conveying the Divine revelation through the Qur’an and the Hadith of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. As Islam expanded into non-Arab regions, there emerged a need to preserve the purity and clarity of the Arabic language through the establishment of systematic linguistic rules. This study employs a historical-comparative method to trace the development of classical Arabic linguistics and to analyze the contributions of key figures such as Khalīl ibn Aḥmad al-Farahīdī and Sibawaih in the standardization of Arabic grammar. Based on a review of relevant literature, it was found that the development of classical Arabic took place through four major periods: the Jahiliyyah period, the early Islamic period, the Umayyad period, and the Abbasid period. Each period demonstrates significant changes in social, political, and intellectual aspects that influenced the structure and function of the Arabic language. During the Abbasid era, Arabic linguistics reached its peak through monumental works such as Kitāb al-‘Ayn and Al-Kitāb, which established the systematic foundations of Arabic phonology and grammar. Therefore, it can be concluded that the development of classical Arabic linguistics is the result of a long and dynamic intellectual process influenced by the interaction between religion, culture, and the scholarly thought of language experts.

Abstract

Arabic holds a significant position in Indonesian education due to its close association with Islamic teachings and classical Islamic literature. However, Arabic language instruction in higher education remains dominated by grammatical and translation approaches, with limited emphasis on communicative aspects. This study aims to analyze the use of Arabic vocabulary in students’ daily lives and to understand its contextual application in social and academic interactions. Employing a qualitative descriptive approach, the research involved five students from the Arabic Language Education program who actively use Arabic within the campus environment. Data were collected through observation and interviews, and subsequently analyzed through processes of reduction, categorization, and contextual description. The findings reveal that students frequently employ five core vocabulary items: Assalamu’alaikum/Marhaban (greetings), Alhamdulillah (expression of gratitude), Afwan (apology), Syukran (thank you), and Al-Ma’ (water). The use of these expressions illustrates the practical application of applied Arabic linguistics in everyday communication while simultaneously reflecting religious, social, and cultural values internalized through language. Accordingly, context-based Arabic language learning is essential to enhance students’ communicative competence in an effective and meaningful manner.

Abstract

This study aims to explore how Montessori didactic materials help elementary school students understand the concept of fractions. Using qualitative methods and a Design Didactic Research (DDR) approach, data were collected through classroom observations, semi-structured interviews with Montessori teachers, and documentation of student work. The data analysis technique used was thematic analysis, where the researcher identified patterns and main themes from the data collected. Triangulation was conducted to validate the research results by combining findings from interviews, observations, and documentation. The results showed that the use of concrete manipulative materials significantly improved students' understanding of fractions, developed problem-solving skills, and built a strong connection between abstract and real concepts. The teacher acts as a facilitator, allowing students to learn independently while still guiding them in the exploration process. This study concludes that the Montessori method is effective in teaching fractions at the primary school level, by providing a deep and meaningful learning experience for students.

Abstract

Abstract

The aspects of translation acceptability are not related only to the accuracy and clarity of the translation. They also cover the naturalness of translation. This study aims to reveal the degree of translation naturalness of the Quranic imperative verses. This evaluative study compares the translations of the verses by the Ministry of Religious Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia (MORA) and the one made by Muhammad Thalib (MT). The study used embedded case study research. The findings of the study show that in general, the translations of the verses in the two versions have an acceptable degree of naturalness. However, when both were compared, the translation naturalness of MT’s translation is slightly more acceptable than the one made by the MORA. The translation acceptability of the two translations is inseparable from the translation techniques and procedures used in handling the translation units at the micro-level. The translation techniques such as reduction, transposition, amplification, and the like are deemed as being able to present the translation naturalness of the verses.

Abstract

The methyltestosterone hormone is a synthetic hormone of androgen and has been used to obtain the juveniles of male mono-sexual fish such as Tetra Congo, Tilapia, and Betta. The methyltestosterone use on gourami has not maximized. It because there is no data on the exact age of larvae to produce maximum male mono-sexual juveniles, so it is necessary to do research on the effect of methyltestosterone hormone on the age of gourami larvae on the success of male mono-sexual formation and get the right larval period to obtain maximum survival gourami. The methods of this research were conducted using a completely randomized design with four treatments of the age of gourami larvae aged ten days, 15 days, 20 days, and 25 days. Each procedure was repeated three times. Data analysis used ANOVA analysis and LSD test. The larvae are soaked in a solution containing 5 ppm of hormones for 24 hours. The results showed that the administration of the hormone methyltestosterone to gourami larvae (Osphronemus goramy Lacepè¨de, 1801) with different ages had a very significant effect (P <0.01) on male sex formation with the highest average percentage of males obtained in treatment B (15-day larvae age) that is equal to 82.33% and the lowest in the treatment of larval period of 10 and 20 days is 74.00%. Keywords: Gourami, hormone, juvenile, methyltestosterone, Osphronemus goramy.
