Abstract

This study aims to analyze students' understanding of energy concepts through the PhET simulation in the case of the Skate Park. Energy concepts, including kinetic energy, potential energy, and mechanical energy, often present challenges in physics education, particularly in the context of visual and interactive comprehension. In this study, the PhET "Energy Skate Park" simulation was used to observe energy changes in objects moving along a skate park track at various heights. The study involved high school students conducting experiments using this simulation to understand the basic principles of physics related to energy changes. Data were collected through direct observations and pre-test and post-test quizzes to assess the improvement in students' understanding of energy concepts. The results showed that using the PhET simulation significantly helped students understand the changes between kinetic energy, potential energy, and mechanical energy in a more tangible and visual context. The average post-test score (86.67) demonstrated an increase of 24 points compared to the pre-test score (62.67), with the standard deviation decreasing from 7.91 to 6.05, indicating a more consistent understanding among students. The simulation effectively assisted students in building conceptual schemas through interactive visualization and virtual experiments, aligning with constructivist theory, experiential learning, and multimedia learning theories. The simulation also demonstrated its potential to enhance student engagement and their ability to apply physics concepts to real-life situations.

Abstract

Abstract: This study aims to develop and validate science teachers' perception of the free fall motion practicum device based on Arduino UNO and the Phyphox Application through the Science Subject Teachers' Deliberation (MGMP) forum. This research method applies the research and development (RnD) method with the ADDIE (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation) model. The first step is the analysis of the needs of the problem of misconceptions of free fall motion and the selection of media to be developed; the second step is the design of the development of the device used, namely Arduino UNO and the Phyphox Application in the form of a digital sketch before continuing to the development process. The third step is the development of the Arduino UNO and Phyphox free fall motion kit prototype; the fourth step is the implementation of a data collection trial carried out by a group of volunteer students in the free fall motion practicum and continued with the introduction of the device through the MGMP Science forum. The final evaluation activity is the collection of data from the science teacher perception questionnaire on the developed tool and validating the tool. The results of the testing and development show that Adruino has a slightly lower accuracy level than the phyphox application. These results were obtained from practical activities by a group of students. This may be influenced by development factors and technical settings that can affect the accuracy level of the Adruino practical tool. Each tool has its advantages; Adruino is suitable for training students in coding programming and technology-based learning according to the needs of the 21st century. Meanwhile, Phyphox offers practicality and fast and efficient use. Through practicality testing, both tools provide good and relevant results to improve the quality of learning, especially in the misconception of free fall motion.     Keywords: free fall motion, arduino UNO, phyphox application.

Abstract

The aim of this research is to reduce household organic waste through the use of organic waste as a natural detector of formaldehyde content in food snacks. The organic waste used in this study was red garlic skins, dragon fruit skins and purple sweet potato skins. This research is an experimental research. The stages of the research started with the extraction of anthocyanins from the three organic wastes, direct detection of formalin and detection of food ingredients. The formalin concentrations tested were 0.5%, 1%, 2%, 5% and 25%. Detection ability can be seen from the color change between control and formalin treatment. Garlic skin produces a red extract, dragon fruit skin produces an orange extract, and purple sweet potato skin produces a deep red extract. Test results on 20 samples of food snacks around the campus using the three organic waste extracts proved that all samples contained formaldehyde in varying concentrations. The highest 50% formalin content was found in yellow noodles and meatballs. The conclusion is that purple beetle skin, dragonfruit skin, and red garlic skin can be used as natural detectors for formalin in campus snacks.

Abstract

Corrosion can also be defined as the forced destruction of metal by the surrounding medium which is usually a liquid (corrosive agent). Corrosion prevention processes can be carried out, including by coating the metal surface, cathodic protection, adding corrosion inhibitors and so on. Several types of inhibitors that have been widely used in industrial applications are synthetic chemical inhibitors. However, the compounds of inhibitors are environmentally unfriendly, toxic and expensive. To overcome this problem, it is necessary to develop an environmentally friendly alternative corrosion inhibitor or better known as a green inhibitor. This research aims to test the effectiveness of using a combination of lime (Citrus aurantifolia.), Lerak (Sapindus rarak) and jasmine flower (Jasminum nudiflorum) extracts as an environmentally friendly corrosion inhibitor. The results obtained were inhibitors in the form of a combination which were added to the corrosive medium HCl which could reduce the rate of aluminum corrosion. This research also shows that time and concentration influence the corrosion rate. A higher concentration (200 ppm) has a greater inhibitory power than a concentration of 100 ppm. The best inhibitory power is found in 200 ppm inhibitor with a soaking time of 20 minutes

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the use of chitosan as a substitute for formalin in making wet preparations of true bony fish (Osteichthyes) and to assess the feasibility of storing them as practicum media in the Vertebrate Zoology course. Osteichthyes body size varies from 1 cm to 6 meters. The main characteristic of Osteichthyes is the presence of a skeleton consisting of native bone and a hard calcium phosphate matrix. The skin is protected by various types of scales, including ganoid, cycloid, or stenoid scales. The research method used is Experimental Research Method with descriptive approach, which includes hedonic test and shelf life test (organoleptic) through panelist participation. Tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) was used as the specimen in this experiment with variations in chitosan concentration of 0.50, 1.50, 2.50, and 3.50%. The study included evaluation of Osteichthyes wet preparations by considering aroma and odor, texture, color, as well as monitoring storage stability for one week. The results showed that the wet preparation using chitosan concentration of 3.5% gave satisfactory results for the observation of Osteichthyes structure. In addition, the storage evaluation showed that the quality of the preparations could be well maintained over a certain period. This indicates that chitosan can be an effective alternative in making Osteichthyes wet preparations for Zoology practicum
