Abstract

Abstract

Childhood tuberculosis (TB) remains a major global public health concern, particularly in developing countries, due to children’s immature immune systems and frequent exposure to infectious adults within households. This scoping review aimed to identify and synthesize global evidence on risk factors associated with TB among children aged 0–19 years, following the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) methodology and PRISMA-ScR guidelines. Unlike previous systematic reviews that focused on specific regions or populations, this study comprehensively mapped risk factors using evidence from PubMed, Scopus, and Garuda databases up to March 2025. Eleven primary studies meeting the inclusion criteria were analyzed thematically. The most frequently reported risk factors included close contact with adult TB patients, lack of Bacillus Calmette–Guérin (BCG) vaccination, malnutrition, overcrowded housing, and poor ventilation. Additional factors such as HIV infection, exposure to cigarette smoke, low parental education, and poor household income further increased susceptibility. The findings indicate that childhood TB arises from a complex interplay of biological, social, and environmental determinants. Therefore, effective prevention strategies should integrate immunization, active contact tracing, family health education, and improvement of living conditions. This review provides valuable insights for strengthening community-based TB control programs, highlights the need to prioritize children as a vulnerable population, and identifies research gaps to guide future policy and interventions toward TB elimination.

Abstract

The profession of dentistry is a job that is at risk of musculoskeletal disorders. Dentists often work in static and non-ergonomic positions for long periods of time, perform repetitive movements, and interact with patients in limited workspaces. A comprehensive understanding of the prevalence, location of complaints, and the most dominant risk factors is needed to develop effective prevention and intervention strategies to reduce musculoskeletal disorders. Objective to identify musculoskeletal disorders in dentists along with prevalence, pain areas and risk factors. The author used the PRISMA checklist to guide the selection of articles. The databases used were Science Direct and Scopus to search for academic articles published between 2020 and 2025 that met the predetermined content criteria with the keywords Musculoskeletal Disorders, Dentist, Dental, Prevalence, Work Related and Risk Factors. Initial findings based on keywords obtained 494 articles, then screening was carried out until 10 relevant articles to review. The prevalence of MSDs complaints reported in each article was between 58.3% - 93%. The highest pain areas in dentists were in the neck, lower back and shoulders. One of the most dominant risk factors is work posture. Musculoskeletal Disorders (MSDs) are occupational health problems that are often experienced by dentists. Risk factors for MSDs are divided into individual characteristics, jobs, habits, and work environments. Interventions are needed to prevent MSDs in dentists such as ergonomic interventions and education since professional education.

Abstract

Childhood routine immunization is a critical stage to ensure the health of infants and protect against serious diseases. Therefore, adequate strategies are urgently needed to increase childhood immunization coverage to prevent global disease and death. This review has identified the effect of interventions to increase immunization coverage among children in developing countries. A review included published studies from 2013 to 2023 on randomized controlled trials (RCT) and pre-post intervention that met eligible criteria. All included studies had been conducted in English-published articles on Pub Med and Google Scholar, without being limited to geographical sites. A total of 1107 published articles were accessed and 12 final eligible articles were reviewed. 66.67% of the included studies were conducted in Africa, 16.67% in South East Asia countries, and others were conducted in East Asia and America. These studies demonstrated that different interventions (SMS and call reminders, sticker reminders, immunization education, home-based records, and community-centered) had significant increases in immunization coverage for childhood compared to the control group with standard care or without any interventions. The present findings suggest that interventions including implementing SMS and call reminders, sticker reminders, education both from health workers and local leaders, and home-based records can potentially reduce immunization dropout. However, strategies to improve coverage for immunization uptake should also be considered preferred community-based to extend the marginal groups.
