Abstract

Boesenbergia rotunda (L.). Mansfeld, or temu kunci is native plant in Indonesia, which is used as medicine, vegetables, and spices. The use of plants as medicine and spices relates to its compounds of secondary metabolites. This article aims to explain the uses and bioactive compounds of B. rotunda. This article is based on literature offline and online media. Offline literature used the books, whereas online media used Web, Scopus, Pubmed, and scientific journals. Boesenbergia rotunda have flavonoids (chalcones, flavanones, and flavones) and essential oils (terpinene, geraniol, camphor, α-ocimene, 1,8-cineole, myrcene, borneol, camphene, methyl cinnamate, terpineol, geranial, and neral. The essential oil founded on B. rotunda produces a distinctive odour, so that are used as antipyretic, aroma theraphy, and analgesic. Flavonoids of B. rotunda have been used as an anti-HIV-1, antitumor, anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidative, anti-cancer, anti-obesity, and anti-microbial. Extract of B. rotunda resulted lysis of membranes and walls microbial. The uses of extract of B. rotunda as antiobesity because its to increase the activity of enzymes involved in lipid catabolism. Keywords: Boesenbergia rotunda, essential oils, flavonoids, anti-microbial

Abstract

The research on the diversity of yard plants and their utilization for learning infrastructure at the PSKD 1 school in the Jakarta to the conservation efforts. in The research was conductedat the January-April 2018through two step arethe exploration in the yard of PSKD 1 School 1 and interviews with thebiology teachers and Deputy Head. The plants found were recorded in local names, habits, and use. The data obtained were processed by using descriptive statistics. There were 93 local names of plants found in the PSKD 1Schoolyard in the Jakarta, which consisting of 86 species names belonging to 67 genus and 33 families. The Araceae, Asparagaceae, Arecaceae, and Moraceae are the families with the largest number of species are 14, 10, 5 and 5 species respectively. In the biology study the plants in the yard are utilized in the biodiversity, ecological and plant morphology materials. The pinus (Pinus merkussi) and jamblang (Syzygium cumini) are the plants that to be difficult to find in Jakarta, but still found in the PSKD school yard. To maintain the sustainability of the plant needs to be multiplication through seeding and cuttings. Keywords: Shcool yard, PSKD, Pinus merkussi, Syzygium cumini

Abstract

Pogostemon cablin (PC) is a belonging of Lamiaceae which produces a distinctive aroma known as patchouli oil which is used in the production of perfumes and as aroma therapy. The aroma produced by plants is related to the content of volatile secondary metabolites. The writing of this article is based on literature studies in the form of books, journals and other research results and then synthesized to obtain comprehensive information about botany and the use of PCs. In Indonesia, there are three types of Pogostemon, namely PC (Aceh patchouli), P. heyneatus (Javanese patchouli) and P. hortensis (patchouli soap), but what produces more patchouli oil is a PC. Patchouli oil is a essential oil from PC leaves which is used in the pharmaceutical industry and has a very high economic value. In traditional medicine PC used to cure fever, nausea, colds, headaches, fever, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, stomach ache, insect bites and snakes. The alcohol patchouli, α-patchoulene, β-patchoulene, α-bulnesene, seychellene, norpatchoulenol, pogostone, eugenol and pogostol are the main essential oils of PCs. Bioactivity of the PC is anti-stress, anti-influenza, aroma therapy, antioxidant and anti-microbial. The use of PC as aroma therapy needs to be studied further so that it can be developed in commercial scale to sauna. Keywords: Pogostemon cablin, patchuoli oil, aroma therapy
