Abstract

This study aims to describe the meaning of tourists’ experiences, the importance of service, and the sense of happiness that emerges when traveling by train at Bandung Station. The study is grounded in the role of transportation not only as a means of mobility, but also as a medium that shapes emotional experiences and impressions for travelers. A qualitative descriptive method with a case study approach was employed. Data were collected through interviews with 12 informants, consisting of 8 long-distance and local train passengers, 3 station officers, and 1 station manager, as well as through planned observations and document analysis. Data analysis was conducted using the Miles and Huberman model, including data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing, with NVivo software used as a supporting analytical tool. The findings indicate that train travel is perceived as a comfortable and memorable experience. Service is understood as a form of assistance that provides convenience and a sense of security, while happiness arises from a smooth journey and a clean, well-organized station environment. This study is expected to contribute to efforts in maintaining and improving service to strengthen the positive image of tourism through the strategic role of Bandung Station.

Abstract

Mount Merapi is one of the most active volcanoes in Indonesia, attracting significant attention for the development of natural and sport tourism attractions in the Mount Merapi National Park (TNGM). However, high volcanic activity and periodic eruptions have led to various multidimensional impacts that could potentially impact the future sustainability of the tourism sector. This study aims to identify and analyze the potential impacts of eruptions on the development of sport tourism destinations in the Mount Merapi National Park area. This research was implemented using a descriptive qualitative method with a case study approach in the affected area. Comprehensive data collection was conducted through participatory observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation involving various stakeholders, including TNGM managers, private tourism destination managers, service providers, local communities, and tourists. Data analysis was conducted systematically using data reduction techniques, data presentation, and conclusion drawing, combined with SWOT analysis to formulate strategies. The results of this study indicate that eruptions have had direct negative impacts in the form of infrastructure damage and the closure of high-risk activity routes, as well as indirect impacts such as decreased visitation due to increased perceptions of security risks. On the other hand, the eruption has been shown to have a positive impact through the formation of a new volcanic landscape, which has sparked increased interest in disaster mitigation-based adventure and educational tourism (Volcano-Sport-Edu). In conclusion, the development of sports tourism in TNGM requires adaptive management strategies, strong cross-sector collaboration, and the integration of sustainable disaster management to ensure the safety, environmental conservation, and economic well-being of local residents.

Abstract

Margawindu Village in Sumedang Regency possesses considerable geotourism potential along with a locally cultivated honeybee product known as Teuweul honey. However, this potential has not yet been optimally integrated into the development of sustainable educational tourism. This community service program aims to implement sustainable geotourism by empowering local MSMEs engaged in Teuweul honey beekeeping through a participatory and community-based tourism approach. The method involved field observations, focus group discussions, thematic training, mentoring, and participatory evaluation followed by strategic recommendations. The results indicated a significant increase in community capacity in terms of environmental conservation and tourism interpretation, the rebranding of Teuweul honey with strong local identity, and the development of an educational tour package titled “From Hive to Nature” that combines ecological, economic, and educational values. Despite existing challenges such as infrastructure limitations and the need for digital marketing skills, the program successfully laid the foundation for an inclusive and locally driven sustainable geotourism model. Continued cross-sector collaboration and stakeholder engagement are essential to ensure the program’s long-term sustainability.

Abstract

Digital technologies have enhanced tourism accessibility, information sharing, and visitor engagement. However, most digital tourism initiatives remain destination-oriented and rarely integrate community knowledge, diaspora activities, halal tourism, and collaborative governance. This study develops and validates a digital tourism guidebook model for community-based sustainable tourism based on the socio-cultural, educational, religious, and halal tourism activities of the Indonesian Muslim diaspora community in Nonthaburi and Bangkok, Thailand. Using a qualitative case study, data were collected through interviews with ten key informants, participant observation, document analysis, and expert and stakeholder validation. Thematic analysis identified six themes: socio-cultural documentation, halal tourism and Islamic heritage, fragmented digital information, community participation, digital literacy, and responsible intercultural engagement. These findings informed a participatory digital guidebook model integrating community-generated content, intercultural storytelling, responsible visitor guidelines, collaborative governance, and continuous updating. The model was considered relevant, feasible, and culturally appropriate. This study conceptualizes the digital guidebook as a participatory knowledge platform supporting community empowerment, cultural preservation, and sustainable tourism governance.

Abstract

Batu Dua is a rural paragliding destination in Linggajaya Village, Sumedang Regency, Indonesia, where international event visibility contrasts with unresolved questions concerning community influence over destination decision-making. This study aimed to evaluate the forms of community participation in destination management and identify the highest level of authority demonstrated in practice. A qualitative single-case study design was employed, combining semi-structured interviews with four role-based informants, field observations, and document analysis. Interview data were coded using Arnstein’s eight-rung Ladder of Citizen Participation and validated through source and method triangulation. Informant corroboration percentages were calculated descriptively by dividing the number of informants providing evidence for each rung by four and were not interpreted as population estimates. The findings reveal a hybrid participation profile. All informants reported government-led information provision, capacity-building activities, and operational collaboration; three reported two-way communication and consultation; two provided evidence of placation through community representation; and none reported delegated power or citizen control. Community members participated in parking management, food and beverage services, promotion, event support, and facility maintenance, while strategic decision-making authority remained concentrated among formal destination managers and government actors. Partnership therefore constituted the highest observed level of participation, although it did not represent comprehensive citizen power. The study concludes that community involvement at Batu Dua remains primarily operational rather than authority-based. These findings extend understanding of participation in rural sport tourism governance and indicate that progression toward formal co-management requires explicit decision-making rights, transparent benefit-sharing mechanisms, accountable community representation, and participatory monitoring.

Abstract

Purpose: This study aims to examine the relationship between tourism accessibility and tourist satisfaction, and the influence of tourism accessibility on tourist satisfaction at Toga Hill Sumedang. Method: A quantitative approach with descriptive and verification analysis was employed. Data were collected from April to May 2026 through onsite and online questionnaire distributed to visitors of Toga Hill Sumedang. A total of 400 usable respondent questionnaire were obtained using an accidental sampling technique. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, classical assumption tests, simple linear regression, the coefficient of determination, and t-tests using IBM SPSS Statistics. Because accidental sampling is a non-probability sampling technique, the findings should be interpreted within the characteristics of the surveyed respondents and should not be generalized to the entire visitor population. Result: The mean accessibility score was 12.53 (possible score range: 5–20), while the mean tourist satisfaction score was 12.59 (possible score range: 5–20). Simple linear regression analysis indicated a statistically significant positive association between perceived tourism accessibility and tourist satisfaction (t = 9.543, p < .001). The coefficient of determination (R² = .186) indicates that accessibility accounted for 18.6% of the variance explained by the present model. Contribution: This study provides empirical evidence regarding the relationship between tourism accessibility and tourist satisfaction at a hill-based nature tourism destination. The findings offer practical insights for destination managers and local governments to improve road accessibility, transportation convenience, route information, and travel comfort to enhance visitors’ overall travel experience.
