Abstract

The reality of modernity, which has given rise to various complexities that are sometimes detrimental to humanity, has revived local religions which indeed have their own cosmology, which is seen as saving the world. The main focus of the research is cosmology within the teachings of Agama Sunda Djawa, exploring sources of ethics, views on the afterlife, and environmental ethics. The Seren Taun ceremony, as part of local cultural wisdom, becomes the center of attention in understanding the meaning of rituals and the symbolic significance of the Paseban building. This research utilizes a qualitative method with a phenomenological approach, involving informants such as followers of Madraism, Agama Djawa Sunda (ADS; the Sundanese Javanese Religion), Paguyuban Adat Cara Karuhun Urang, and Adat Karuhun Urang. The results provide a deep understanding of the administrative and discriminatory challenges faced by Sunda Wiwitan followers and their efforts to maintain their existence and beliefs. This research also reveals the relationship between traditional arts, especially Gemyung art, with the expression of Sundanese cosmology. Overall, this research contributes to the understanding of religion and spirituality in Indonesia while also highlighting social, political, and administrative issues faced by certain religious groups.

Abstract

On Adonara Island, customary land conflicts began with a rival war, or war between citizens, which occurred due to differences in customary rights over land. There was a conflict between the residents of Narasosina Village and the residents of Lewobunga Village. In this case, the residents of Lewonara Village refused the inauguration of a settlement location for the residents of Lewobunga Village on customary land that was considered to belong to Narasaosina Village. So, the war between the residents of Narasaosina Village and the residents of Lewobunga Village because the request letter to empty the flower casserole was not heeded. In the last twenty years, there have been ten villages that have been warned over customary land rights and there has been no serious settlement. The ten villages that were moaning and had not been resolved were: (1). Redontena Village vs Adobala Village, (2). Sandosi Village vs Sandosi Village (a war fought within the village, between tribes that fight over land), (3). Lamahala vs Huruhura(4). Teulu Old Village vs Kewo Keleng Village, (5). Narasosina Village vs Lewo Bunga Village. To resolve the conflict that occurred in Adonara, East Flores Regency, East Nusa Tenggara, efforts would be made to resolve the conflict. Conflict resolution could be done with conflict management, and conflict resolution was a peaceful method that allows both parties to end or significantly reduce the conflict. It might not be too difficult to handle or help handle conflicts that arise from conflicts of interest.

Abstract

This study aims to explore effective planning strategies for multicultural education through an event management framework at Bakti Karya Parigi Vocational High School (SMK). Using a qualitative research approach with grounded theory methodology, this study employs a case study design. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with the school principal, teachers, students, and stakeholders; participant observation during the planning and implementation of school events; and document analysis. Data were managed and analyzed using ATLAS—ti software. The findings reveal that SMK Bakti Karya Parigi adopts event management as a holistic educational strategy to instill multicultural values. The school systematically plans and implements activities that introduce cultural diversity and build students' character and competencies for a multicultural society. This study concludes that event management principles—such as idea exploration, resource planning, collaboration, financial management, targeted promotion, and operational planning—can be effectively integrated into multicultural education. This finding recommends that vocational schools adopt event-based strategies as a sustainable model for fostering inclusivity and intercultural competence in diverse educational environments.

Abstract

This study is motivated by the challenge of economic independence for Islamic boarding schools amid the transformation of their role in the modern era. Islamic boarding schools no longer function solely as traditional Islamic educational institutions, but have also developed as centers for economic and social empowerment of the community. However, dependence on uncertain external funding sources has prompted the need to develop a sustainable economic ecosystem for Islamic boarding schools in order to strengthen the independence of these institutions. This study aims to explore the development of Islamic boarding school financing management based on economic independence. This study uses a qualitative approach, with an exploratory sequential mixed methods design. The research method uses Research and Development (R&D) with the Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation (ADDIE) development model. The results of the study found that: 1) Financial management in two Islamic boarding schools has been carried out systematically through planning, funding diversification, governance, and continuous evaluation with a contextual approach. 2) The development of financial management has shifted from an administrative function to an economic independence strategy based on the integration of modern governance and Islamic boarding school values.

Abstract

This study examines the management of Islamic spiritual mental development in improving the religious character of soldiers at the Headquarters of the Military Regional Command (Makodam) III/Siliwangi. The research is grounded in the understanding that soldiers’ mental resilience, discipline, and moral integrity are essential determinants of military professionalism and operational readiness. Despite established traditions of discipline within the Indonesian Army (TNI–AD), various challenges related to religious commitment, moral behavior, and psychological resilience persist, necessitating systematic spiritual development. This study employs a qualitative research approach to explore the processes of planning, organizing, implementation, supervision, and evaluation of Islamic spiritual development programs, as well as the supporting and inhibiting factors influencing their effectiveness. Data were collected through observations, in-depth interviews with key informants, and document analysis, and were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive model to ensure credibility and analytical rigor. The findings indicate that Islamic spiritual mental development at Kodam III/Siliwangi is managed in a structured and integrated manner, guided by official TNI–AD policies and adapted to local operational conditions. Program implementation includes routine religious guidance, congregational worship, Qur’anic studies, counseling, and family-oriented spiritual activities, supported by strong leadership commitment and an institutional religious culture. The program has contributed to increased worship discipline, improved moral conduct, strengthened integrity, and a reduction in disciplinary violations among soldiers. However, its implementation faces constraints related to operational demands, limited personnel, and scheduling flexibility. Overall, the study concludes that effective integration of management functions, aligned with Islamic education management principles and the CIPP evaluation model, plays a significant role in strengthening soldiers’ religious character within a military context.

Abstract

The philosophy of history is a branch of philosophy that attempts to understand and explain the course of human history through various theoretical approaches. In this context, Saint Augustine, Thomas Aquinas, and Ibn Khaldun played a very important role in shaping the historical thought that has developed to this day. Saint Augustine, with his main work De Civitate Dei, introduced the view of history as a journey towards the kingdom of God, linking theological beliefs with worldly developments. Thomas Aquinas, with his rational and theological approach, developed a theory of history that sought to harmonize Christian teachings with Greek philosophical thought, particularly Aristotle, and explained the role of reason in understanding human history. On the other hand, Ibn Khaldun, as a Muslim thinker, made a major contribution with his theory of historical science in the Muqaddimah, where he viewed history as a dynamic process influenced by social, economic, and cultural factors, and developed the concept of asabiyyah, which explains the relationship between group solidarity and changes in society. These three figures, although from different backgrounds, present a rich and profound view of the dynamics of human history, which informs various perspectives on the roles of religion, reason, and social factors in historical development.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the mechanisms of moral disengagement and moral flexibility in the political behavior of religious actors in post-reform Indonesia. Moral disengagement is defined as a socio-cognitive process that enables individuals to commit unethical actions without experiencing internal moral conflict, while moral flexibility refers to the contextual and situational application of moral values. Employing a qualitative method with a critical discourse analysis approach, this research analyzes political texts, speeches, ideological documents, and religious narratives that reflect power practices. The research scope includes religion-based political actors and Indonesia’s democratic public sphere. The findings indicate that moral disengagement is institutionalized through euphemistic language, moral justification, and diffusion of responsibility, whereas moral flexibility operates as an adaptive mechanism that alleviates tension between normative values and political interests. The main challenges involve the lack of empirical psychological data and the complexity of discourse interpretation. This study recommends strengthening critical ethical literacy and promoting political leadership models grounded in moral accountability. This research provides a conceptual integration of moral disengagement and moral flexibility within the context of religious politics in Indonesia, contributing to the expansion of moral psychology into the sociology of power.
