Islamic philosophy has a long history of problems, both within and outside the Muslim body. Philosophy that originated in Greece has certainly given rise to judgment, condemnation, and even rejection from some Islamic circles. Al-Ghazālī (1058-1111 AD) with his book Tahāfut al-Falāsifah, which later made the stigma about philosophy worse and even led to his death, and which later appeared on the counter of an Ibn Rusyd with his book Tahafut At-Tahafut. This article highlights the thinking of Muslim philosophers and scholars in response to philosophy and mentions the reasons behind it, which will then be packaged in the form of the ups and downs of the development of Islamic philosophy. Abstract

This article discusses Tauhid by two prominent mutakallim figures, namely al-Qāḍī ‘Abd al-Jabbār and al-‘Ash’arī using literature review and analytical and comparative methods. These two figures have similarities and differences in the concept of tauhid. ‘Abd al-Jabbār denies the azaliyah qualities that Allah has attached to Himself, because pinning these qualities to Allah will have an impact on divine dualism, and will also plunge a person into tajsim and tasybih, so he sees that Allah's nature is in essence, God himself. This statement was then opposed by al-Ash’arī, arguing that the nature of Allah is not His essence and nothing else, it means that the attributes of Allah are qadim. This is what the Mu’tazilah denied because it causes the number of qadim to be counted. The results of this study conclude that they agree on the oneness of Allah and provide evidence for it, refute things that lead to tasybih and tajsim, and takyif against Allah SWT. In addition, denying the possibility of seeing Allah in the world, and believing that Allah has the nature of kalam even though they differ in defining these attributes. While the difference between these two figures, first is in terms of their manhaj in determining aqidah. Second, in interpreting monotheism, the relationship between essence and nature, the nature of faith, interpretation of mutasyabih verses, the word of God, ru’yatullah in the hereafter.

Abstract

Contemporary politics has given rise to various humanitarian disasters. The political world seems too preoccupied with personal, group, and factional power interests. One tangible impact is the destruction of social stability. In contrast, Islamic politics ontologically views human beings holistically and universally, and then epistemologically derives from the Revelation of Almighty God and the Sunnah of His Messenger. History has proven that Islamic politics has contributed significantly to social harmony in a civilization. Based on the aforementioned political paradigm, the question is how Said Nursi addresses these issues by applying his political principles. This research aims to uncover and explain the definition, purpose, politics, and solutions to contemporary political problems according to Bediuzzaman Said Nursi. Said Nursi's political principles play a crucial role in the modern political world, especially concerning issues of social harmony. The researcher employs a qualitative method and an Islamic political approach, using narrative data rather than numerical data. This research discovers that the Islamic political thought of Bediuzzaman Said Nursi holds a concrete vision in harmonizing society.

Abstract

This study aims to rectify the reductionist assumption that Islamic philosophy is merely a replication of ancient Greek thought. Specifically, it analyzes how al-Kindī, as one of the pioneers of philosophy within the Islamic tradition, systematically integrated elements of Greek philosophy—particularly Neoplatonism and Aristotelianism—into the conceptual framework of Islamic thought, with a focus on metaphysical aspects of divinity. The central theological themes examined include arguments concerning the existence of God, the essence and characteristics of God, and the concept of the creation of the universe. Using a descriptive-qualitative approach to al-Kindī’s primary texts, particularly Fī al-Falsafah al-Ūlā, this study reveals that al-Kindī did not merely adopt Greek philosophical ideas passively. Rather, he actively selected, reinterpreted, and reformulated these ideas to align with the foundational principles of Islamic teachings. The findings indicate that al-Kindī functioned as more than a translator or conduit of intellectual traditions; he emerged as an innovator who successfully synthesized philosophical reasoning with religious revelation. Another significant finding is al-Kindī’s critical stance toward Greek metaphysical concepts—for instance, his rejection of the notion of creatio ex materia (creation from pre-existing matter) in favor of creatio ex nihilo (creation from nothing), which is more consistent with Islamic theology. This contribution marks the formation of an original and contextual Islamic metaphysical system and paved the way for the more systematic development of Islamic philosophy in subsequent periods. Therefore, this study underscores the importance of repositioning al-Kindī as a central figure in the intellectual history of Islam, one who effectively bridged two major intellectual legacies: Greek philosophy and Islamic thought.
