Abstract

According to records from the Ministry of Religious Affairs in 1997, the number of Islamic boarding schools in Indonesia has reached 9,388 (up 224%). Meanwhile, the number of students has reached 1,770,768 people (up 261%). The latest data, in 2011, the number of Islamic boarding schools is now 27,218 with as many as 3,650,000 students. Pesantren, when viewed from historical, sociological and anthropological views, this institution should be seen as an alternative educational institution in Indonesia. But the government seems to look underestimated with other formal educational institutions. On the one hand, the government recognizes the products or quality of pesantren graduates, but on the other hand, pesantren remain pesantren that are not fully recognized as educational institutions. Departing from the above reality, in turn it has invited the attention of many people to continuously observe, research, or study the dynamics, development, and existence of pesantren in Indonesia. Therefore, in this paper the author tries to present the theme of the implementation of pesantren by displaying the implementation model of modern Islamic boarding schools in Indonesia

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the supervisory strategy of the Panwascam (Central Election Supervisory Agency) of Sinjai Borong District in handling election violations in the 2024 Simultaneous Regional Elections in Sinjai Regency. The study focuses on two main aspects, namely preventive strategies and repressive strategies. The research method uses a qualitative approach with case studies, through in-depth interviews, observation, documentation, and interactive data analysis. The results show that the Panwascam's preventive strategies include socialization of election regulations, political education, and strengthening coordination with village officials and community leaders. This strategy has been proven to increase regulatory understanding among lower-level election organizers and public political awareness, especially first-time voters. Meanwhile, the repressive strategy is implemented through violation handling mechanisms, preparing legal recommendations, and summoning perpetrators and witnesses. Based on field findings, the Panwascam successfully handled one case of violation of ASN neutrality that was recommended to the Regency Bawaslu. This study concludes that the supervision of the Sinjai Borong Panwascam is relatively effective, although it still faces limited resources, low public legal literacy, and strong local political patronage. The results of this study provide a conceptual contribution to strengthening the community-based electoral supervision model, which integrates regulatory, educational, and collaborative aspects. They also serve as practical recommendations for improving the quality of electoral democracy at the local level.

Abstract

The polarization between textual-literalist and contextual-interdisciplinary approaches in understanding hadith in the modern era has become an endless debate that causes a stigma that is not good in Islamic discourse. A multidisciplinary approach in the study of the hadith of the Prophet Muhammad SAW is a need for the interpretation of hadith that is relevant to the challenges of modern society as well as being a mediator of this polarization. This research uses qualitative methods based on library research, content analysis, and critical discourse analysis. Primary data is taken from standard hadith books, while secondary data comes from interdisciplinary literature. The results of the study show that a multidisciplinary approach results in a more comprehensive, adaptive, and contextual understanding of hadith. Linguistic analysis avoids anachronism in the interpretation of terms; sociological and historical approaches place the hadith in social reality and historical chronology; anthropology distinguishes between universal teachings and cultural expressions; philosophy explores universal ethical values; and hermeneutics enriches the process of interpretation according to the dynamics of the times. The contributions of this research include strengthening the integrative methodological framework in the study of hadith, practical relevance for social policy, and the bridge between the classical scientific tradition and the development of contemporary social-humanities sciences. Thus, a multidisciplinary approach not only enriches the scientific treasures of hadith, but also becomes an urgent need to answer the problems of Muslims in the modern era.

Abstract

Purpose of the study: This study aims to identify the theological values embedded in the study of Arabic calligraphy and to contribute to the formation of the religious character of Islamic boarding school students. Methodology: This study employed an interpretive research paradigm with a qualitative approach, conducted through interviews with 12 teachers (ustadz) and focus group discussions (FGD) with 6 students. The data obtained were analyzed using qualitative content analysis techniques. Furthermore, the researchers conducted observations and document analysis to strengthen the data presented. Main Findings: The findings of this study indicate that theological values in Arabic calligraphy are integrated into three main aspects: spirituality, Islamic aesthetics, and morality. In the spiritual aspect, the values of tauhidiyah (monotheism), ikhlas (sincerity), dhikrullah (remembrance of Allah), tadabbur (religious service), and tazkiyatul nafsi (observance of one's soul) are found. In the Islamic aesthetic, the values of jamal (community), creativity, patience, and perseverance are essential to the learning process. In the moral aspect, calligraphy instills amanah (trustworthiness), tawadhu' (religious tolerance), and ukhuwah (brotherhood). Learning Arabic calligraphy contributes to strengthening spirituality, forming personal morals, instilling etiquette, developing Islamic aesthetics, and strengthening students' socio-religious character. Novelty/Originality of this study: The novelty of this study has contributed to the strengthening of arts-based Islamic education that integrates theological values, aesthetic practices, and holistic character formation in a sustainable manner. This research has implications suggesting that Arabic calligraphy can be used as an effective pedagogical instrument for shaping socio-religious character education for students in Islamic boarding schools.
