Abstract

Mangrove ecosystems in Tanjung Rejo Village, Percut Sei Tuan Sub-district, Deli Serdang experienced a lot of land conversion in the form of residential, agricultural and plantation lands. This causes abrasion in this region because there is no protection from waves and sea waves in this region. Land conversion and abrasion caused many mangrove trees to die. Mangrove trees that died were only used on the trunk, twigs and leaves by local residents. Many parts of the dead mangrove roots are not utilized. This community service activity aims to provide information and skills to partner groups about the making of MAROCA. Through this activity, partners will gain knowledge and skills in making MAROCA so that materials that are not initially valuable like dead mangrove roots become useful. Based on the description of the problem and the purpose of this community service activity, the activities that have been carried out are counseling about the manufacturing of MAROCA, giving leaflets for the procedures for making and providing tools and materials. The results obtained are increased knowledge and skills of partners about the benefits of dead mangrove roots as economically valuable handicrafts.

Abstract

Kata Kunci: Mikroplastik, Jenis Mikroplastik, Aceh Barat.ABSTRACTThe types of microplastics in marine waters are important to note because they describe the characteristics and sources of pollution found in these waters. This study aims to determine the types of microplastics that are pollutants in the marine waters of West Aceh. The study was conducted in May 2024 by taking samples using buckets, plankton nets, and sample bottles. Identification was carried out at the Aquatic Environmental Productivity Laboratory of Teuku Umar University by observing 1 ml of seawater samples under a binocular microscope at a magnification of 4 × 0.10 µm using a zig-zag observation pattern. The results showed four types of microplastics, namely fiber (540) particles, fragment (518) particles, film (598) particles, and pellet (23) particles. The presence of microplastics at the study site is suspected to be related to the activities of fishing communities on the coast and river estuaries that contribute to the entry of waste into the waters. It was concluded that there were four types of microplastics with pellets not found at station II due to low community activity. There is a need for more comprehensive steps to collect information on the composition of microplastics as a basis for coastal environmental management and controlling plastic pollution in the marine waters of West Aceh Regency. Keywords: Microplastics, Type of Microplastic, West Aceh.

Abstract

Early childhood is a strategic target group for introducing environmental knowledge and awareness from an early age. One important aspect that needs to be introduced is marine biodiversity as an essential component of ecosystems that play a vital role in sustaining life. However, learning about marine organisms at the kindergarten level is generally limited and still relies on conventional media, resulting in a lack of concrete and interactive learning experiences. This community service activity aimed to improve the knowledge and awareness of students at TK RA Ar-Rahman, Ujong Tanoh Darat Village, Meureubo District, West Aceh Regency, regarding marine organisms through educational activities using teaching aids. The methods applied included interactive lectures, demonstrations using teaching aids, question-and-answer sessions, and educational games. The activity was conducted on January 22, 2026, involving students aged 4–6 years as the main participants. The results showed an increase in students’ understanding of various types of marine organisms and the development of positive attitudes toward the importance of marine environmental conservation. In addition, the use of teaching aids was proven to enhance students’ learning interest and active participation during the learning process. In conclusion, this activity is effective as a model of environmental education for early childhood and has the potential to be replicated in other schools with similar characteristics.
