Abstract

Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) is a widespread health concern that greatly affects the physical and mental well-being of individuals, particularly those who undergo hemodialysis (HD). Managing this condition poses significant challenges for patients, often leading to reduced self-efficacy. Digital storytelling has been identified as a potentially effective method for improving self-efficacy in patients with chronic illnesses; however, its impact on CKD patients receiving HD has not been thoroughly examined. This research aims to assess the impact of a digital storytelling intervention on boosting self-efficacy in CKD patients undergoing HD. A quasi-experimental design with a non-equivalent control group was employed to examine the intervention's effects. The study involved 40 CKD patients from Bhayangkara Hospital Makassar, selected using purposive sampling. Of these, 27 patients were allocated to the intervention group, and 13 to the control group. The intervention group participated in digital storytelling sessions twice weekly for four weeks, with each session lasting 15-20 minutes. The Chronic Kidney Disease Self-Efficacy (CKD-SE) questionnaire was administered pre- and post-intervention to measure self-efficacy. Data were analyzed using paired t-tests for within-group changes and ANOVA to compare results between the groups. After the digital storytelling intervention, 85.2% of participants in the intervention group showed improvement in self-efficacy, though the change did not reach statistical significance (p = 0.215). Meanwhile, the control group experienced a decrease in self-efficacy over the same period. Despite the encouraging results, the brief duration of the intervention may have limited its full effectiveness. Digital storytelling appears to be a useful method for enhancing self-efficacy in CKD patients undergoing HD. Although the improvements were not statistically significant, the positive trends suggest potential benefits. Future studies should consider extending the duration of the intervention and increasing the sample size to better evaluate its efficacy.

Abstract

Mental health issues during pregnancy affect 15–25% of women, leading to complications such as preterm birth and low birth weight. Mindfulness-based interventions (MBIs) offer a promising non-pharmacological approach to reducing stress, anxiety, and depression while enhancing maternal and infant well-being. Objective: This review evaluates the effectiveness of mindfulness therapy in improving pregnant women's mental health by reducing anxiety, stress, and depression. A literature review was conducted using PubMed (236), ScienceDirect (106), Google Scholar (965), and Garuda (231) databases . Studies published in the last ten years (2014-2024) on the effects of Mindfulness-Based Interventions (MBIs) on maternal mental health were analyzed. From an initial 1,529 articles, only 10 studies met the inclusion criteria. MBIs, including Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) and Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), effectively reduce anxiety, stress, and depression. They improve emotional regulation, quality of life, and mother-infant bonding. Digital mindfulness interventions also show similar benefits. Mindfulness therapy significantly improves mental health during pregnancy, promoting maternal and infant well-being. Integrating MBIs into maternal healthcare services is recommended as an effective non-pharmacological approach.

Abstract

Adolescent reproductive health issues are a serious global concern. Research findings show a significant increase in community service participants' knowledge after the intervention, indicating the positive impact of the program on their understanding of reproductive health. The improvement in knowledge may be attributed to effective educational methods employed during the intervention. Participant involvement in activities also played a crucial role in enhancing their understanding. However, it is essential to recognize that knowledge alone is insufficient to change behavior. Therefore, future interventions should focus on integrating components such as attitude change, social norms, and family/community involvement to achieve broader and sustainable impacts on adolescent reproductive health.

Abstract

Stunting remains a major public health problem in Indonesia, partly driven by low exclusive breastfeeding rates and limited family support. Digital Family Assistance & Mentoring (DFAM) was developed as a family-centered digital intervention to support exclusive breastfeeding as a stunting prevention strategy. This study aimed to examine the effectiveness of DFAM in improving knowledge, attitudes, exclusive breastfeeding practices, and family support among breastfeeding mothers. This quasi-experimental study used a pretest–posttest control group design and was conducted in Dobo, Aru Islands. A total of 70 breastfeeding mothers with infants aged 0–6 months were selected using purposive sampling and divided into an intervention group (n=35) and a control group (n=35). The intervention group received DFAM, while the control group received standard breastfeeding education. Data were collected using structured questionnaires. Instrument validity was tested using Pearson correlation and reliability using Cronbach’s alpha, with all instruments meeting acceptable criteria. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank test (p < 0.05). Significant improvements were observed in the intervention group for attitudes (p = 0.040), exclusive breastfeeding practices (p = 0.002), and family support (p = 0.024), while knowledge improvement was not statistically significant (p = 0.120). The control group also showed significant improvements (p = 0.001), but with lower behavioral impact. DFAM is effective in improving exclusive breastfeeding practices by strengthening maternal attitudes and family support, indicating its potential as a digital, family-based strategy for stunting prevention.

Abstract

Background: Anemia remains a prevalent public health issue, particularly among adolescent girls, due to increased iron needs and menstrual blood loss. Conventional iron supplements are often associated with side effects and low compliance. Moringa oleifera, known for its high content of iron, vitamin A, vitamin C, and protein, offers a promising natural alternative to improve hemoglobin levels. Purpose: This study aimed to investigate the impact of Moringa leaf capsule supplementation on hemoglobin levels in anemic female students at STIKES Graha Edukasi Makassar. Method: A quasi-experimental design with a one-group pretest-posttest approach was employed. Thirty female students diagnosed with anemia were selected using purposive sampling. Each participant was given Moringa leaf capsules (2 × 500 mg) daily for 14 consecutive days. Hemoglobin levels were measured before and after the intervention using a digital hemoglobinometer. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test. Results: Prior to the intervention, all participants were classified as anemic, with most in the moderate category. Following the 14-day supplementation, 90% of the students reached normal hemoglobin levels, while 10% remained in the mild anemia category. Statistical analysis revealed a significant difference in hemoglobin levels before and after the intervention (p < 0.0001), indicating that Moringa supplementation was effective. Conclusion: Supplementing with Moringa leaf capsules significantly improved hemoglobin levels in anemic female students. The synergy of iron, vitamins, and protein in Moringa supports hemoglobin synthesis and enhances iron absorption. Suggestions: Health professionals are encouraged to promote Moringa as a natural supplement for anemia prevention and treatment. Educational institutions should consider integrating local herbal-based nutrition programs. Further research with larger samples and extended durations is recommended to validate these findings.

Abstract

Background: The anxiety experienced by the mother when facing the labor process can prolong the duration of labor and risk causing long partus. About 30% of pregnant women experience anxiety before childbirth, which if left untreated can negatively impact the delivery process. Purpose: This study aims to determine the relationship between the level of anxiety of maternal mothers and the incidence of long partus at Daya Hospital. Method: This study used an observational design with a cross-sectional approach. The sample consisted of 30 maternal respondents with long partus who were taken using a saturated sampling technique. Data were collected through the Taylor Manifest Anxiety Scale (T-MAS) questionnaire and the long-term partus incidence questionnaire and analyzed using the Fisher Exact test. Results: As many as 90% of mothers with prolonged partus experienced anxiety, and the majority had mild anxiety levels (60%). The results of the analysis showed a p value 0.041 (< 0.05), which means that there is a significant relationship between maternal anxiety and the incidence of long partus. Suggestion: Consistent psychological intervention and emotional support to pregnant women before and during childbirth is needed to lower anxiety levels and prevent prolonged partus. Support from health workers, families, and antenatal education needs to be increased.

Abstract

Introduction: Cooperative learning, one of the widely applied active pedagogical methods, aims to improve students' abilities. This approach is based on the concept that learning occurs in a social context, involving interaction between individuals, the environment, and peers. However, research on this active method is still limited, especially in the context of higher education and communication. Research shows that cooperative learning can improve students' social and intellectual development, help them hone their interpersonal skills, and increase their sense of accomplishment, productivity, and psychological well-being. Methods: This study used a quantitative approach with a pre-test and post-test One Group Design experimental design, involving 104 respondents and a total sampling technique. The instruments used for data collection are learning cards and knowledge questionnaires. Results: The study showed a significant difference in students' knowledge before and after applying the "Make a Match" learning model using learning cards, with an average overall score of 3596, a standard deviation of 4654, and a p-value < 0.05. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that the "Make a Match" learning model that uses learning cards is more effective in increasing student knowledge than methods that do not.
