Abstract

This study aims to describe the writing abilities of second-grade elementary students and to identify factors influencing their development in Indonesian language learning. A qualitative approach was used, with data collected through interviews with a classroom teacher and a student. The results indicate that most students are able to write simple words and sentences, although their skills are still developing. Common challenges include distinguishing similar letters, writing longer words, and arranging sentences coherently. Environmental factors such as family support, peer interaction, and classroom atmosphere also play an important role in shaping students’ writing skills. The use of visual media and motivational strategies, including simple rewards, has been shown to increase students’ interest and engagement in writing activities. Furthermore, the teacher’s role is essential in guiding students and creating an active and enjoyable learning environment. Therefore, appropriate instructional strategies combined with supportive surroundings can effectively enhance students’ writing skills.

Abstract

This study aims to identify and analyze the Indonesian language learning difficulties experienced by fifth-grade students at SD Negeri 13/1 Muara Bulian. A descriptive qualitative approach was employed through classroom observations and in-depth interviews with the class teacher. The findings indicate that students generally demonstrate adequate reading and listening skills, yet face significant challenges in speaking, vocabulary mastery, and identifying the main idea of a paragraph. The dominant contributing factors include regional language interference in daily communication, low motivation for writing tasks, and insufficient variation in instructional strategies. The teacher has employed audiovisual media and repetitive exercises; however, limited media availability remains a barrier. This study recommends the implementation of context-based learning models and sustained literacy reinforcement to address the students' language skill gaps.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the reading comprehension ability of third-grade students at SDN 14/I Sungai Baung and to identify the factors that influence it. This research uses a qualitative method with a descriptive approach. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and document analysis. The subjects of this study were 23 third-grade students and their classroom teacher. The results showed that the majority of students were at the medium category of reading comprehension ability, with only a small portion reaching the high category. Several students were still struggling with understanding the implicit meaning of texts, identifying the main idea of paragraphs, and retelling the content of readings in their own words. Factors that influenced students’ reading comprehension ability included students’ reading habits at home, family support, the teaching strategies used by the teacher and students’ vocabulary mastery. The findings of this study indicate the need for more varied and student-centered reading learning strategies to improve students’ reading comprehension skills in early grades of elementary school.

Abstract

Listening skills constitute the primary foundation of language acquisition, yet they often receive insufficient attention in lower-grade instruction. This study aims to describe the listening skill level of Grade III A students at SDN 13/I Muara Bulian, identify the factors influencing these skills, and analyze the teaching strategies and evaluation instruments employed by the teacher. A qualitative approach with a single case study design was adopted. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews with the homeroom teacher and corroborated through source triangulation with students. Data analysis followed Miles and Huberman’s interactive model. Findings indicate that 92.9% of students (26 out of 28) achieved listening learning targets, substantially exceeding the averages reported in comparable studies. The dominant factors affecting listening skills were student concentration (focus span approximately 20 minutes) and peer disturbance. Six primary strategies were implemented: Reading Aloud, creative lesson openers with oral quizzes, structured focus-time management, active personal approaches, strategic seating for hyperactive students, and a reward system. Assessment was conducted through oral and written questions covering recall and comprehension levels. This study concludes that the teacher’s role as an active and responsive facilitator is the primary determinant of listening instruction success in lower grades. These findings imply the need for developing lower-grade teachers’ pedagogical competence in designing systematic, student-need-oriented listening instruction.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of interactive digital media integrated with the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model on student learning outcomes in elementary school science education. A Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method was employed, following the PRISMA 2020 guidelines. Articles were sourced via Google Scholar and Publish or Perish for the period of 2021–2026, yielding 37 articles; of these, 31 reported complete quantitative data and were analyzed using narrative synthesis techniques. The results indicate that the majority of quantitative studies reported statistically significant positive impacts. Of these, 27 studies specifically measured cognitive learning outcomes, which improved substantially, with N-Gain scores ranging from 0.44 (medium category) to 0.804 (high category). Furthermore, based on a limited number of studies (1–5 studies for each respective variable), the integration of interactive digital media into PBL also suggested enhancements in student learning motivation (Cohen's d = 0.911), critical thinking skills, scientific literacy, and collaboration skills (p < 0.05). These positive effects were consistently observed across various media types, such as interactive quizzes (Quizizz, Wordwall), digital books (E-books, Flipbooks), presentation tools (PowerPoint, Prezi), and immersive technologies (Augmented Reality), as well as across various research designs. These findings confirm that interactive digital media within PBL consistently provides a positive impact; however, maximum effectiveness is achieved when media features align with the PBL syntax and users' technological readiness. As a note, the literature search in this study was limited to the Google Scholar database through Publish or Perish; therefore, the scope of sources and potential publication bias should be considered when interpreting the findings
