Abstract

The fisheries sector, both capture fisheries, and aquaculture, needs to be developed in Southeast Sulawesi Province, considering that most of its territory is water. One of the indicators to measure the success of the development of the fisheries sector is the increase in production and added value of fishery commodities. On the other hand, Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) can be used as an indicator of the success of economic development in a region. As one of the GRDP elements, the value of fisheries production can be used to measure the performance of the fisheries sector. By knowing the magnitude of the value contribution of fishery products to GRDP, it can be seen the role of the fisheries sector in the formation of GRDP. This study aims to analyze the trend of fishery production value contribution to GRDP; and the relationship between the value contribution of fishery production and GRDP in Southeast Sulawesi. The data used in this study is time series data consisting of capture and aquaculture production values and GRDP for 17 years (2006-2022). Data analysis is descriptive quantitative and simple correlation analyses (Pearson correlation). The study results show that the value contribution of capture and aquaculture production to Southeast Sulawesi’s GRDP tends to decrease. The role of the fisheries sector in forming the GRDP of Southeast Sulawesi Province is not significant.

Abstract

Coastal Communities have typical food consumption pattern that is determined by differences in primary livelihoods, income and food habit. However, fewer studies have been conducted to reveal the relationship between food consumption pattern and income level especially in developing countries. Therefore, this study is relevant to be carried out. This research, applying a mixed quantitative and qualitative method, was conducted in six regencies of Southeast Sulawesi in 2013-2018. A total of 185 respondents were participated through semi-structured interviews and filling questionnaire sheets. The findings from the fieldwork were enriched by the results of field observation and the literature study. This research highlighted that staple food such as rice, cassava, sago, and fish, and also vegetables, sugar, instant noodles and snacks have dominated the coastal dwellers’ diet. Moreover, more than a half of coastal dwellers income (52,76%) has been allocated for food consumption. Based on analysis, it is evident that expenditure for food consumption rises if income level surges as well. If income level increases 1%, then food consumption of the coastal dwellers also raises 0,661%. Keywords: Food Consumption Pattern, Income Level, Coastal Communities, Southeast Sulawesi

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the market structure of seaweed in Buton Selatan Regency.   The sampling technique in this study used the Slovin formula with a standard error of 10%. Analysis methods of market structure of seaweed including market share, barriers to entry and exit of the market and knowledge of seaweed market. The analysis results showed that the existing marketing structure of seaweed in South Buton Regency was a market share of difference 44%, the barrier to entry into seawed marketing was quite large because the MES value was above 10%. The determination of price of seaweed was determined by city collectors who have adjusted the selling price of seaweed in Makassar. Therefore, price determination of practice that occurs in the marketing of seaweed tends to the oligopsony market.
