Abstract

Abstract

This research is motivated by the finding that students' reading comprehension ability is still relatively low. Out of 24 students, only 45% achieved mastery in the daily assessment, while 55% did not. The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of the application of the PQ4R learning method (Preview, Question, Read, Reflect, Recite, Review) on students' reading comprehension ability. The type of research used is quantitative with an experimental method, while the approach in this study uses a Pre-Experimental Design type One Group Pretest-Posttest Design. Data collection techniques used are tests and documentation. The population in this study were all 24 fifth grade students, and all of them were used as research samples. The instrument used was a multiple-choice test to measure students' reading comprehension ability. Data analysis was carried out using the t-test using the SPSS version 21 application. The results of the research findings indicate that there is an effect of the application of the PQ4R learning method on students' reading comprehension ability. This is indicated by an increase in the average score of students' posttest after the application of the PQ4R method. Based on the results of the t-test, a significance value of 0.000 <0.05 was obtained, so it can be concluded that H₀ is rejected and H₁ is accepted. Thus, it can be concluded that there is a significant influence of the application of the PQ4R learning method on the reading comprehension skills of fifth grade students at SDN 11 Tanjung Barulak.

Abstract

The skill of writing procedural texts that integrate structural completeness and linguistic accuracy remains a challenge for junior high school students post-pandemic. This study aims to describe the structure and linguistic usage in procedural texts written by seventh-grade students at SMP Negeri 7 Kubung. This research is a qualitative study using a descriptive method. The data for this study consist of the structures and linguistic elements found in the students' procedural texts. The results show that, in general, students' manuscripts already include the five structures of procedural texts: title, objectives, tools and materials, steps, and conclusion. However, in terms of accuracy, the sections least often written correctly by students are the objectives and conclusion sections. Second, in terms of language, including punctuation, capital letters, and standard and non-standard words, students have used them quite well. These findings imply the need for educators to focus not only on operational instructions for texts but also on improving writing habits in the narrative-persuasive section and on the accuracy of students' self-editing.

Abstract

This study is motivated by the importance of examining folklore as intangible cultural heritage, particularly the legend of "Anak Durhaka Ojuang" from Kuantan Singingi Regency, which is rich in moral values but rarely analyzed from a pragmatic linguistics perspective. This research aims to identify and analyze the speech context, types of speech acts, and cultural values embedded in the story. A descriptive qualitative method with discourse analysis was employed, utilizing Austin and Searle's speech act theory and Kluckhohn's cultural value framework. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with a native storyteller and textual analysis of the narrative. The results reveal an informal narration context, yet key utterances—such as Ojuang's denial and his mother's curse—function as declarative speech acts that reproduce the community's cosmological values. The story serves as a mechanism for social control and character education, emphasizing filial piety, religiosity, solidarity, and work ethic. It is concluded that the Ojuang legend is an effective value maintenance system where language acts not merely as a communication tool but also as an instrument for enforcing cultural norms. These findings contribute to folklore research methodology with an integrated linguistic approach.

Abstract

Language errors are still commonly found in Indonesian language learning atthe elementary school level, especially in the field of morphology. This study aims todescribe the forms of morphological language errors made by elementary schoolstudents and the factors causing these errors. This research used a descriptivequalitative method with data sources in the form of students’ essays. Data collectiontechniques were carried out through observation, documentation, and note-takingtechniques. The data analysis technique was conducted by identifying, classifying, and describing morphological errors found in students’ writings. The results showedthat the most dominant morphological errors included errors in affixation, prepositionwriting, the use of standard words, and reduplication. These errors were influencedby several factors, such as the influence of regional languages, students’ lack ofunderstanding of Indonesian language rules, lack of writing practice, and the habitof using non-standard language in daily communication. Based on the results of thestudy, it can be concluded that elementary school students’ morphological abilitiesstill need to be improved through more effective Indonesian language learning andthe use of interesting learning media. This study is expected to become a referencefor teachers and future researchers in improving elementary school students’language skills.
