Abstract

Anemia is a common nutritional problem among adolescent girls and can affect health, learning ability, and the quality of future generations. Hemoglobin (Hb) levels can be influenced by dietary intake, such as folic acid and vitamin C, as well as consumption behaviors, including tea drinking habits and adherence to iron supplementation (TTD). This study aimed to examine the relationship between folic acid intake, vitamin C intake, tea drinking habits, and adherence to TTD consumption with hemoglobin levels among adolescent girls in senior high schools in Tuban District. This study used a cross-sectional design with a sample of 325 respondents selected through probability sampling. Data on folic acid and vitamin C intake were obtained using a 24-hour dietary recall method, while tea drinking habits and adherence to TTD consumption were collected through questionnaires. Hemoglobin levels were measured directly using a hemoglobin testing device. Data analysis was performed using the Spearman correlation test. The results showed significant relationships between folic acid intake and hemoglobin levels, vitamin C intake and hemoglobin levels, adherence to iron supplementation and hemoglobin levels, and tea drinking habits and hemoglobin levels, with a negative direction of association. This study concludes that folic acid intake, vitamin C intake, tea drinking habits, and adherence to TTD consumption influence hemoglobin levels in adolescent girls. Efforts to prevent anemia should focus on improving dietary patterns, proper use of iron supplementation, and regulating tea drinking habits.

Abstract

Introduction: Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) such as hypertension, diabetes mellitus, cardiovascular diseases, and stroke represent major public health challenges due to their increasing prevalence and long-term health impacts. Early detection through routine health screening is an important strategy to reduce the risk and complications of these diseases. However, community awareness regarding early detection of NCDs remains limited, particularly in rural areas. Methods: This community service program was conducted on February 7, 2025, in Bogorejo Village, Merakurak District, Tuban Regency, involving 50 participants consisting of community members and local health cadres. The program used a community empowerment approach through health education, training sessions, and practical demonstrations of self-screening techniques. Participants were trained to measure blood pressure, calculate body mass index (BMI), and measure waist circumference as simple indicators for early detection of NCD risk factors. Results: The results showed an improvement in participants’ knowledge and awareness regarding the importance of early detection and prevention of non-communicable diseases. Participants also demonstrated increased confidence and ability to perform simple health screening independently after receiving training and practical guidance. Discussion: Community-based education and practical training proved to be effective strategies in improving public awareness and capacity for early detection of NCDs. The involvement of local health cadres further supported community participation and contributed to the sustainability of health monitoring activities within the Healthy Village program.

Abstract

Food waste is an important indicator in evaluating the effectiveness of food service management, especially in institutional settings such as Islamic boarding schools. High levels of food waste can be influenced by several factors, including food taste and satisfaction with food service. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between food taste and food service satisfaction with food waste among students at Al-Hasyimi Islamic Boarding School Sukolilo Bancar. This research used a quantitative method with a cross-sectional design. The population consisted of 127 female students, with 98 respondents selected using stratified random sampling. Data were collected using the Comstock form to measure food waste and questionnaires to assess food taste and food service satisfaction. Data analysis was conducted using univariate and bivariate analysis with the Spearman Correlation test. The results showed a significant relationship between food taste and food waste (p=0.000), as well as between food service satisfaction and food waste (p=0.000).

Abstract

The underlying problem of this study is the high incidence of nutritional problems, such as under- or over-nutrition, in adolescents due to greater nutritional requirements during growth. Research Objectives: This study examines the relationship between psychosocial stress, sedentary lifestyle, carbohydrate intake, and nutritional status in adolescents. Research Methods: Using a cross-sectional analytic research method on 284 out of 984 adolescent population, this study analyzed the data with Spearman correlation test. Results: The results showed a significant association between the three independent variables (psychosocial stress, sedentary lifestyle, and carbohydrate intake) and the dependent variable (nutritional status). Each independent variable had a significant p-value: 0.057 for psychosocial stress, 0.592 for sedentary lifestyle, and 0.054 for carbohydrate intake. Conclusion: This study concludes that there is a significant relationship between psychosocial stress, sedentary lifestyle, and carbohydrate intake with adolescent nutritional status. Therefore, it is recommended that adolescents apply a balanced nutritional pattern in their daily lives.
