Abstract

This study examines the reconstruction of the role of Islamic Religious Education (PAI) teachers as a response to the modern adolescent moral crisis, which is characterized by value disorientation due to the dominance of digital technology and popular culture. Using a qualitative approach based on library research framed within the perspective of Sociology of Ereignis, this research explores academic literature to dissect the ontological dynamics of teaching practices, digital ethical challenges, and the necessity for educator role transformation in the 21st century. Data were collected through document reviews and scholarly text analysis, then analyzed to construct a relevant teacher role model. The findings reveal that the current adolescent moral crisis is not merely behavioral delinquency, but a consequence of value alienation within virtual spaces. Therefore, religious teachers must transform from mere transmitters of theological content into "meaning makers," functioning as value facilitators, authentic moral exemplars, and digital moral counselors. The proposed reconstruction strategies include dilemma-based case learning, personal mentoring, and digital ethics literacy. This study asserts that adaptive, humanistic, and contextual religious education is an absolute foundation for safeguarding the character of the young generation in the era of disruption.

Abstract

This study examines how the founding institution’s vision functions as the foundation for shaping the distinctive characteristics of Islamic schools through their educational models, curricula, and school cultures. Departing from the gap between theoretical ideals and actual practices, this research highlights that many Islamic schools claim a particular identity without fully internalizing the ideological values of their founding organizations. Through a reflective and comparative library-based analysis, this study reviews literature on various Islamic educational organizations such as Muhammadiyah, Nahdlatul Ulama (NU), Al-Irsyad, Hidayatullah, and Integrated Islamic Schools which demonstrates variations in educational models based on the ideological orientation of their founders. The findings affirm that the founders’ vision acts as an ideological driver influencing the selection of educational models (integrative, holistic, tahfiz, modern pesantren, or full-day school), the development of Islam-oriented curricula, and the formation of religious school culture as institutional identity. This study offers a conceptual framework that explains the causal relationship between the founders’ vision and educational practices in Islamic schools, filling the gap in previous comparative studies that typically focused on single organizations. The results underscore that consistency between the founders’ vision and its educational implementation is a key determinant of the character and uniqueness of Islamic schools.

Abstract

This study explores Haflatul Imtihan at TPQ Tarbiyatul Quran Probolinggo, not merely as an academic examination mechanism, but as a meaningful event (Ereignis) that constitutes the community's spiritual world. While conventional sociological approaches often reduce such rituals to their functional roles as tools for education or social cohesion—this research adopts a Sociology of Ereignis framework to understand how the event discloses the lived religious experience of the participants. Through phenomenological engagement and reflexive observation, the study reveals that Haflatul Imtihan serves as a moment of mutual disclosure where the sacred (the Quran) and the social (the community) are intertwined. It is not just a test of memory, but a transformative event where the identity of the community is continuously re-enacted and the presence of the divine is felt as a shared reality. The findings suggest that true community empowerment emerges not from technical management, but from the authentic participation in these world-shaping events.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze how the concept of branding is applied in the context of modern Islamic educational institutions and how religious excellence programs contribute to building the school’s image and strengthening public trust. Branding in modern Islamic schools is not merely a promotional tool but a strategic effort to reflect Islamic values integrated with scientific and technological advancement. Programs such as Qur’an memorization (Tahfizh), bilingual education, and Islamic character development serve as distinguishing features that define the identity of modern Islamic schools. The findings indicate that the effectiveness of religious programs significantly influences public interest and parental trust in these institutions. The success of branding in modern Islamic education is determined by the consistency between claimed values, professional program implementation, and tangible results in shaping students’ character. Therefore, modern Islamic schools successfully integrate spirituality, intellectuality, and modernity, making them trusted and preferred institutions within society.

Abstract

This article explores social inequality within Islamic education, particularly focusing on the divide between elite Islamic schools catering to the upper class and modest Islamic schools serving ordinary communities. The study aims to conceptually examine how this disparity affects the core Islamic values of social justice and equality in education. Employing a library research method with a descriptive qualitative approach, data were collected and analyzed from relevant academic literature. The findings reveal that while the modernization of Islamic education has contributed positively to improving quality and professionalism, it has also generated negative effects such as commercialization and the loss of autonomy in grassroots Islamic schools. The study argues that reform in Islamic education is essential to ensure inclusivity and equity in access to quality learning. Efforts such as scholarship programs, cross-subsidization, and strengthening of madrasah institutions are crucial to restore the fundamental purpose of Islamic education as a means of enlightenment and empowerment grounded in social justice.

Abstract

Character education through daily habits at Pondok Pesantren Al Mashduqiah plays a highly significant role in shaping the students' character. This research aims to analyze the influence of daily habits, such as congregational prayer (sholat berjamaah), cleaning duty, and time discipline, on the character formation of students at the Islamic boarding school. The method employed is a mixed-methods approach, combining library research with field observation to delve deeper into the habits implemented in the pesantren and their impact on the students' character. Data were collected through direct observation of students' daily activities and interviews with pesantren administrators. The findings indicate that the habits of congregational prayer, religious study activities (pengajian), and time discipline consistently contribute to the formation of disciplined character, responsibility, and a sense of solidarity among students. Furthermore, the dormitory environment, which supports intense social interaction, also accelerates the internalization of taught moral values, making character education more effective. In conclusion, daily habituation at Pondok Pesantren Al Mashduqiah provides an important contribution to forming individuals with noble morals and responsibility, as well as creating an environment that supports the development of students' character in various aspects of life.

Abstract

The Muhammadiyah education system has long been considered a key instrument not only in knowledge transfer but also in the reproduction of Islamic social movements in Indonesia. This study aims to synthesize the findings of scientific literature regarding the dual role of the system: as an engine for cadre formation and as an agent for social transformation. The method used is a Systematic Literature Review with a qualitative approach to journal articles, theses, and dissertations published between 2014-2024, sourced from Google Scholar and Garuda Portal databases. The synthesis results indicate that: (1) Cadre formation is built through a coherent trilogy of mechanisms ideological curriculum (Al-Islam and Kemuhammadiyahan), activism in autonomous organizations (IPM/IMM), and environmental role modeling; (2) Social transformation manifests in a graded spectrum, from charitable services and economic empowerment to policy advocacy, executed by educational outputs through Muhammadiyah's philanthropic network; (3) These two functions form a self-sustaining dialectical cycle, where education produces cadres, cadres become agents of change, and the success of that change reproduces legitimacy and new resources to attract the next generation of cadres. This study concludes that the sustainability of the Muhammadiyah movement stems from the capacity of its education system to function as a self-reproducing ecosystem. These findings provide a theoretical contribution in the form of an analytical model for the sustainability of education-based social movements and practical implications for strengthening the institutional capacity of community organizations.

Abstract

This study investigates the manifestation of community empowerment rooted in the living turats tradition through the Ngaji Kitab gathering on Wage Thursday Nights at Miftahul Ulum Islamic Boarding School, Probolinggo. This initiative emerged as an existential response to the community's yearning for deeper and structured religious understanding, particularly in fiqh and akhlak derived from the Kitab Kuning. Employing a qualitative-descriptive approach with a sociology of ereignis orientation, the research involves immersive observation, informal interviews, and documentation to capture the congregation's lived experience. The findings reveal that the Sullam Taufiq gathering is not merely a routine, but a moment of disclosure where the transmission of wisdom occurs through communicative methods, local vernacular, and concrete analogies that bridge classical texts with daily life. The resonance of this activity extends to strengthening social cohesion and empowering micro-economies, underscoring that the turats tradition holds vital potential as a medium for shaping religious literacy and cementing the social fabric of rural communities.

Abstract

This article examines the relationship between Islamic schools and local cultural traditions through a literature review focusing on patterns of rejection, acceptance, and accommodation. The findings reveal that some Islamic schools reject local traditions that are viewed as lacking normative foundations in Islamic teachings, while others accept traditions considered not contradictory to Islamic principles. Additionally, a third pattern—accommodation—shows how certain schools selectively reinterpret or modify local traditions to align with Islamic values. This literature review highlights that the interaction between Islamic education and local culture is strongly influenced by ideological orientation, socio-cultural context, and the religious paradigm adopted by each institution. The study concludes that the relationship between Islamic schools and local traditions is dynamic and continues to evolve alongside societal changes and the development of Islamic thought.

Abstract

The implementation of school uniforms and dress code regulations in Islamic educational institutions is often understood merely as the fulfillment of religious norms. However, these practices also have important social functions in shaping students’ behavior and social life. This study aims to analyze the social functions of school uniforms and dress codes in Islamic educational institutions from the perspective of the sociology of education. The research employs a qualitative library research method through the analysis of academic books, scholarly journal articles, and official documents of Islamic educational institutions. Data analysis is conducted using content analysis and thematic analysis. The findings indicate that school uniforms and dress codes function as mechanisms for the internalization of moral values, the formation of collective identity, social control, the cultivation of discipline, and the creation of social equality within the school environment. Furthermore, dress practices contribute to the transfer of institutional values into students’ social lives in the wider community. Thus, school uniforms and dress codes can be regarded as a form of social investment in character formation, indicating that Islamic education is oriented not only toward academic achievement but also toward the development of individuals with strong social and moral awareness.
