Abstract

This community service activity aims to improve production efficiency and operational management at UD. Assas Jaya through the implementation of a rice drying machine. So far, the rice drying process is still carried out traditionally by relying on sunlight, so it is less efficient, takes a long time, and is highly dependent on weather conditions. To overcome this problem, the Community-Based Research (CBR) method is used by involving business owners, workers, and academic partners in the process of identifying problems, implementing solutions, and evaluating results. The stages of the activity include analysis of initial conditions, training in the use of drying machines, operational assistance, and evaluation of production efficiency. The results of the activity showed a significant increase in drying time, rice quality, and operational cost efficiency. The implementation of this technology proves that a community-based approach can increase the competitiveness of small businesses in the agricultural sector, while supporting food security through optimization of the production process.

Abstract

Manual meatball production in small and medium enterprises often results in inconsistent product mass and low production efficiency. This study aims to analyze the effect of screw conveyor speed and cutter diameter on the production performance of an automatic meatball forming machine. The experiment was conducted at the Mechanical Engineering Laboratory, Politeknik Negeri Malang, using the Design of Experiment (DOE) factorial method. The independent variables were screw conveyor speed (159 rpm, 186 rpm, and 236 rpm) and cutter diameter (15 mm, 20 mm, and 25 mm), while the dependent variables were the produced meatball mass and production capacity. Data were analyzed using Minitab 21 software with a Two-Way ANOVA test to evaluate the influence of the main factors and their interaction on the output. The results show that both independent variables significantly affect the meatball mass (p-value < 0.05). Higher screw conveyor speeds increased meatball mass but reduced the number of meatballs produced, while larger cutter diameters generated heavier meatballs with lower production capacity. Response optimization analysis revealed the best combination at a screw speed of 124 rpm and a cutter diameter of 30 mm, yielding a desirability value of 0.93. This configuration produced meatballs within the optimal weight range of 15–25 grams with minimal power consumption. It can be concluded that the precise adjustment of screw conveyor speed and cutter diameter significantly improves product uniformity, machine performance, and production efficiency, supporting productivity enhancement in small-scale food manufacturing industries.

Abstract

A heat exchanger is a device that functions to change the temperature of a fluid by utilizing the heat transfer mechanism from a high-temperature fluid to a lower-temperature fluid. This study was conducted to design and analyze the performance of a shell and tube heat exchanger with a parallel flow configuration on a laboratory scale. The design process focused on determining the main dimensions and components, such as tube length and the ratio between shell and tube diameters, to ensure optimal operation for laboratory experiments. After the device was successfully fabricated, experiments were carried out to obtain temperature data of the hot and cold fluids at both the inlet and outlet. These experimental data were then compared with the results of numerical simulations using ANSYS Fluent software based on the Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) method. The simulation was used to visualize the flow pattern and temperature distribution within the heat exchanger, as well as to calculate heat transfer efficiency. The results showed good agreement between the simulation and experimental data, with only a 1% deviation, where the inlet temperature of the hot fluid was 65°C and the outlet temperature was 38°C, indicating the validity of the numerical model used. From this study, it can be concluded that the combination of experimental design and CFD simulation analysis provides a more comprehensive understanding of the temperature distribution and efficiency of a shell and tube heat exchanger with a parallel flow configuration.

Abstract

Genset or Generator set is a combination device between a power generator (generator) and a driving engine in one set of units to produce electrical power. Genset is a vital device in the modern railway transportation system. In the railway system, electricity generated by the genset is used to supply locomotives, dining cars, passenger cars, power trains, baggage cars, and freight cars. Due to the importance of the genset function in the railway industry, a maintenance and repair planning system is needed to help the continuity of the performance process and the operation of the train run smoothly. To ensure the performance and reliability of the genset, an effective maintenance and repair strategy is needed. One approach that can be used is Failure Mode Effect Analysis (FMEA). The results of genset maintenance and repair using the FMEA method show several critical components, namely the Press Water Pump, Cylinder Head & Gasket, Turbo Charger, Hp Pump, ECU, Injector, Intercooler, Oil Breather, Vibration Damper as well as maintenance and repair schedules (Preventive and Corrective), and the estimated cost required for maintenance and repair in five periods of Rp. 45.131.067,00.

Abstract

MIG (Metal Inert Gas) welding is a welding process that uses rolled electrodes which are the same as the base metal and uses a protective gas.  Aluminum is one of the most commonly used metals in the industrial world. Connecting aluminum by welding is a challenge in itself because of its high heat conductivity. This is why a lot of research has been carried out on welding aluminum. This research aims to investigate the effect of travel speed on the tensile strength and macro structure of welds from the robotic welding process. The research was carried out using experimental methods and observing the macro structure of the fracture results. The research results, it was found that changes in welding speed (travel speed) in the aluminum MIG welding process showed a decreasing trend in maximum tensile strength. The highest tensile strength was obtained at the TS variation of 40 mm/minute, while at TS 70 mm/minute the tensile strength was lower. The higher the welding speed, the lower the resulting tensile strength. This is due to reduced heat applied which affects weld penetration and metal joining. A lower welding speed results in better penetration and higher tensile strength, but a speed that is too slow can cause overheating and damage the metal micro structure. The macro structure of the fracture, it was found that higher welding speeds cause fractures that tend to be brittle with defects such as porosity, which can also reduce tensile strength

Abstract

Electric vehicles (EVs) are becoming a growing environmentally friendly transportation solution, but they still require an efficient and easily accessible vehicle condition monitoring system. Electric motorcycle users often experience difficulties in directly knowing the condition of the battery, motor, and drive system. Based on these problems, this study aims to develop an On-Board Diagnostic (OBD) system integrated with a speedometer to monitor the main parameters of two-wheeled electric vehicles in real-time. The research method includes designing a microcontroller-based system connected to a motor controller via UART and Controller Area Network (CAN) communication. The system is equipped with a DS3231 RTC module for time markers, an SD Card for data storage, and a 20x4 LCD to display voltage, current, power, temperature, and fault status (fault code). Testing was conducted on the Graha Merjosari Asri–Greenland at Tidar, Malang route, with speed variations between 0–45 km/h. The results show that the system is capable of detecting undervoltage conditions below 60 V, maintaining a stable maximum temperature of 41°C without overheating, and displaying vehicle data accurately and responsively. The developed OBD-speedometer system functions effectively as a portable and economical diagnostic tool for electric two-wheeled vehicles, with potential for development into an IoT-based intelligent monitoring system.

Abstract

Desa Lebakharjo Kecamatan Ampelgading Kabupaten Malang memiliki kondisi geografis berbukit dengan banyak tikungan tajam yang meningkatkan risiko kecelakaan lalu lintas. Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan keterampilan dasar pengelasan masyarakat melalui pelatihan Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW). Kegiatan ini juga memfasilitasi pembuatan dan pemasangan tiang cermin jalan pada titik rawan kecelakaan serta membangun dasar pemberdayaan masyarakat melalui keterampilan pengelasan. Metode pelaksanaan meliputi persiapan, pelatihan, pemasangan cermin jalan, serta evaluasi kepuasan. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan peningkatan pengetahuan peserta dengan N-Gain 0,61 (kategori sedang–tinggi). Penilaian praktik menunjukkan aspek posisi elektroda, kerapian las, dan kepatuhan terhadap K3 berada pada kategori baik hingga sangat baik. Pemasangan cermin jalan dilakukan secara gotong royong pada lokasi rawan kecelakaan. Kegiatan ini terbukti efektif meningkatkan keterampilan teknis masyarakat sekaligus memberikan kontribusi nyata terhadap keselamatan lalu lintas dan peluang pemberdayaan ekonomi melalui pengembangan usaha las komunitas.

Abstract

Motorcycles are piston-engined vehicles that are widely used in society. Because of the ease of use, lower prices, and more efficient operational costs compared to other means of transportation. The engine produces performance in the form of power and torque which can be increased by increasing the quality of the fuel used as an energy source in the engine. The dependent variable in this study is the power test, torque test and specific fuel consumption test. The aims of this study were (1) to determine the performance and specific fuel consumption produced by motorcycles by mixing pertalite and ethanol fuels. (2) to find out how much the composition of the fuel mixture can produce the best performance. Comparison of 4 variations of fuel types, namely: pure Pertalite (100%), Pertalite 90% + 10% Ethanol, Pertalite 80% + 20% Ethanol, Pertalite 70% + 30% Ethanol. This study used a dynotest with the specifications of the super dyno 50 L-Inertia as a test tool for power, torque and specific fuel consumption. The engine speed is varied from 1000 to 10000 with a range of 1000 between rpm. Based on the results of the research that has been done, it shows the effect of mixing pertalite and ethanol on the performance and specific fuel consumption of a 150 cc four-stroke motorbike. The maximum engine performance is obtained from the fuel mixture (90% Pertalite + 10% Ethanol) with a power of 0.72 kW at 8000 rpm engine speed, the largest torque is 0.75 Nm at 4000 rpm engine speed, and the lowest specific fuel consumption is 2.6178 kg/kW hour at 8000 rpm engine speed.

Abstract

The development of science and technology is in balance with the development of industrial technology. The development of this technology is evidenced by the invention of the CNC machine which is a machine tool that is controlled using a numerical control system. The purpose of this study was to find the effect of variations in spindle rotation on the time and cost of the production process for increasing the front shock breaker on a TU-2A CNC machine with 6061 aluminum material. and conclusion. From the results of this study it can be concluded that: (1) There is an influence of variations in spindle rotation, namely at 1,700, 2,200 and 2,700 rpm the resulting production time for increasing the front shock breaker is 25.87, 25.9 and 26.03 minutes/product, respectively. (2) There is an effect of variations in spindle rotation, namely at 1,700, 2,200 and 2,700 rpm, the production cost of increasing the front shock breaker respectively is Rp. 230,347,-; Rp. 230.368,-; Rp. 230,388, - / product. (3) Variation of spindle rotation that results in the lowest production time and costs is work with a spindle rotation of 1,700 rpm, which is 25.87 minutes/product and costs Rp. 230,347,- / product. Abstract

In the industrial world, especially in the manufacturing industry, there are many technological developments that support better work processes. One of them is cutting technology or cutting machine, which has developed a lot of technology. There are more and more motorbike modifications for the use of transportation on the road or to be contested in motorbike modification competitions. One of them is the modification of the radiator cover which is most often found on motorcycles. Modification of the radiator cover using steel plate material has the advantage that it is stronger than the factory default radiator cover. This research uses an experimental method by varying the pressure of O2 gas then observing, recording and calculating research data. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of variations in O2 gas pressure on the most optimal production time and estimate the production cost of the radiator cover for the motorcycle. From the results of observations and calculations of time and costs carried out in the radiator cover production process, it is obtained that the production time is 6.32 minutes / product and the production cost is Rp. 95.000,-/product.
