Abstract

This research was aimed at identifying the approaches, methods and techniques used by the English teachers at a state senior high school in Enrekang, Indonesia in teaching English as a foreign language. Furthermore, the consistency of the approaches, methods, and techniques is also identifed. This research applied explorative qualitative research design. The subjects were all of the English teachers in that school. They were chosen through purpossive sampling technique. They were interviewed and observed to get data regarding their teaching approach, method, and technique. Their lesson plan were copied to gain supporting data. Based on fndings and discussion, the approaches used by teacher 1 were communicative and behaviorism approach. Teacher 2 applied systemic functional linguistic and constructivism/ cognitivism. Most of the techniques used by teacher 1 reflected behaviorism approach or principles of grammar translation method while the techniques used by teacher 2 reflected both of behaviorism and constructivism. In the case of the consistency, the English teachers still showed a considerable inconsistency. Yet, comparing with teacher 1, teacher 2 was more consistent. It is concluded that the two English teachers still need further upgrading regarding approaches, methods, and techniques of teaching English as a foreign language.

Abstract

Most of the people of Ba'ka Village are conventional palm sugar farmers whose whose selling prices are cheap. The purpose of this service is to provide innovation in palm sugar into ant sugar. Through training in making ant sugar, it is hoped that it can increase people's income. The stages of community service include needs analysis, problem formulation, work program formulation, and work program implementation, and evaluation. This service activity produces ant sugar products that are packaged in a modern way. Ant sugar products can attract consumers because they are more durable, hygienic, and practical.

Abstract

Abstract: The theory distinguishes human based on four different personality types such as: sanguine, choleric, melancholic, and phlegmatic. Different types of personality caused by differences in the dominant fluid in the body. These differences will result in terms of behavior, ways of thinking and to get along. The type of this research that is descriptive qualitative which it is describing the logical reasoning based on Hippocrates personality types. The logical reasoning is analyzed through the four types of personality in relation to mathematical problem solving. The Analysis is done based on the logical reasoning indicator/ subindicator and the steps of problem solving stated by Polya. The result shows that there is a reasoning difference on each type of personalities. The difference can be terms of the strenght or the weakness. Sanguine is quicker in understanding problems and communicating results, choleric is more accelerated in work, melancholic is more perfect at work, and phlegmatic is superior in terms of accuracy. Abstract

Program pelatihan bimbingan belajar bahasa inggris sekolah dasar adalah salah satu program kerja KKN angkatan XVIII tahun 2019.Terdapat beberapa tujuan dari program pelatihan bimbingan ini yakni bagi mahasiswa yaitu melatih mahasiswa untuk menerapkan ilmu teori yang telah didapatkan di kampus. Melalui KKN mahasiswa dapat membantu melancarkan program–program yang dicanangkan oleh pemerintah. Bagi daerah tersebut dapat memberikan perubahan–perubahan sosial ke arah yang lebih baik melalui pengajaran Bahasa Inggris sejak usia dini. Bagi kampus sendiri Mahasiswa mampu mempertegas eksistensi perguruan tinggi sebagai lembaga yang mampu melahirkan kader–kader yang mampu membawa perubahan kepada masyarakat. Sedangkan Tujuan utama dari bimbingan belajar Bahasa Inggris ini adalah anak anak sekolah dasar memiliki pengetahun dasar Bahasa Inggris sejak dini meliputi pengucapan baik kata dan kalimat yang digunakan dalam sehari hari sesuai dengan dengan tingkat usia mereka yang berhubungan langsung dengan lingkungan sekitar mereka. Program ini juga dirancang sebagai salah satu strategi dalam meningkatkan kualitas komunikasi dalam Bahasa Inggris. Lokasi pengabdian ini adalah SDN 17 dusun Salowo dan SDN 181 dusun curio desa Curio Kecamatan Curio Kabupaten Enrekang. Bimbingan ini berlangsung selama 2 bulan. Metode yang diaplikasikan dalam program bimbingan belajar ini adalah metode observasi, sosialisasi, pelatihan, dan bimbingan. Hasil bimbingan Bahasa Inggris yang diadakan di SDN 13 dan 181 Curio sangat bermanfaat bagi siswa karena dapat menambah semangat siswa dan motivasi siswa karena dapat mempelajari Bahasa Inggris walaupun masih dalam tingkat dasar. Hal ini juga merupakan dasar Bahasa Inggris para siswa Sekolah dasar untuk lekanjutkan ke jenjang yanglebih tinggi, yakni tingkat SMP.

Abstract

Technology integration is a benefit for students to learn differently to achieve goals and create the most important part of student life today. Google Classroom is a trend of blended learning in higher education that changes the strategy of delivering learning and teaching. The aim of this exploratory study is to investigate whether or not this application can be covered to develop or support learning in a Bachelor level of English Language Education program to facilitate student achievement. The test design was used to analyze student performance and the survey of perceptions of the use of Google Classroom was evaluated statistically using a questionnaire. The results revealed that students who participated in answering questions at the pretest found that there was no significant difference between the control group (45%) and also the experimental group (45.45%). In the posttest results, the two groups obtained an increase within the value of the final examination, however the contribution of 5th-semester students with the utilization of Google Classroom specifically benefited those with higher grades (81.82%) compared to third-semester students (70%). Moreover, the results of the student perceptions survey during this study indicate the use of Google Classroom is observed positively as a technology which will modernize dynamic learning and engagement, stimulate critical thinking and their participation if used suitably for learning functions.

Abstract

This research was aimed at finding out the way of the teacher in implementing of Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) in teaching English at class of SMPN 1 Enrekang, exploring the media, problems, and types of CLT activities that students prefer. The population of this research was the teachers and the students of SMPN 1 Enrekang. The sample was three teachers and two classes. In this research, the data were obtained through three kinds of instruments namely, observation checklist, interview, and questionnaire. The result showed the ways of teacher in implementing of CLT were the teachers used principles of CLT methodology stated by Richards (2006:13). Moreover, the researcher found two other ways. Firstly, the teacher always tried to use creative ways/activities in applying Richards’s principles of CLT methodology in order not only to motivate and interest but also to decrease the boredom of students in learning English. Secondly, the teacher showed her sympathy, sensitivity, and understanding to their students’ needs and problems. Generally the problems encountered by the teachers were the students rarely communicated with others using English in daily life so they are lack of English proficiency. The media used by teacher were authentic materials, non-authentic material, listening exercises, internet, and computer based program. The result of questionnaire calculation is about 49.71. This result is in like categories as stated in Liker scale. Based on the data, the top rank of CLT activities that students prefer was task completion activities (100% of students).

Abstract

The subject of this research was vocabulary class in the Muhammadiyah University of Enrekang, 2021/2022 academic year. The data were in the form of quantitative data. The quantitative data were collected from the students’ vocabulary score of pre-test and post-test to see the improvement of the students’ vocabulary mastery. The research findings showed that vocabulary mastery of most students’ increase after body movement game technique was used in the teaching and learning process. It was indicated by the increase of the mean students’ vocabulary score in the pre-test and post-test (52, 07 to 76, 57). The students’ involvement and classroom interaction during the implantation of the game were increased. It was showed by students’ enthusiasm during the game. They tried to be the first winner and raised their competitiveness among them. In addition, the implementation of Body Movement Game technique and the complementary actions were successful to help the students’ memorize and understand new words easily. In conclusion, the students’ vocabulary mastery was increased through the implementation of Body Movement Game.

Abstract

The international internship program was the topic of this research provides opportunities for students to be involved in community service conducted abroad. This research was qualitative by taking data from eight students who participated in this international internship program. The results of this study used a descriptive method. This study aims to analyze the problems faced and the solutions used by the intern students of the Muhammadiyah University of Enrekang batch 2. The results of this study indicate that there are 8 problems faced by interns, including administrative problems, health, psychological, culture shock, language barriers, teaching assignments, social, and available facilities. Apart from the problem, this research also includes the solutions used by the interns to solve these problems. With this research, it can be used as a reference or guideline for students who want to take part in international internships later

Abstract

This study examines the effect of utilizing a handbook developed within the KUKIS program on enhancing students' English vocabulary. Research was conducted in SD Negeri 110 Lura with a population were students of V and VI. The research was carried out using experimental research with a Pre-experimental Research Design with The One-Shot Case Study. Data of research statistical was analyzed by the model of simple linear regression. Results of the analysis indicated that the correlation coefficient value was 0.87 and the determination coefficient value was 0.75. Based on the result, it can be assumed that there is a very high positive linear influence of the handbook made by the KUKIS Program on students’ English vocabulary at English learning with a contribution of 76% and equation regression is Y =0.75X+ 7.06. These outcomes underscore the substantial positive impact of integrating the KUKIS Program handbook in enhancing students' English vocabulary in an instructional context.

Abstract

The research aimed to analyze the factors that affected the English language proficiency of students in non-English Education programs at Universitas Muhammadiyah Enrekang. This research was a descriptive research with a qualitative approach. The participants in the research were students from programs outside the English Education program. The data collection method used was a questionnaire. The stages in data analysis included data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of the research revealed that the factors affecting the students' English language proficiency were: Listening ability, which was influenced by a lack of vocabulary and concentration, Reading ability, which was influenced by low reading motivation and vocabulary, Speaking ability, which was influenced by a lack of confidence and vocabulary, and Writing ability, which was influenced by low interest and a lack of support from the surrounding environment. This research indicated that the students still faced various challenges in their English language skills, including listening, reading, speaking, and writing, and that additional support outside the classroom was needed to improve their language abilities
