Abstract

HIGHLIGHTS This study focused on Papua, which had the highest infant mortality rate, using a multivariate approach to analyze various factors. Data from the IDHS 2017 and robust statistical analysis were expected to aid in formulating effective health policies. The uniqueness of this research lies in its broader scope of variables, including education and employment, while considering the social and cultural context of Papua, providing new insights into infant health issues.   ABSTRACT Objective: Infant mortality remains a critical global public health concern, with 2.4 million neonates dying within the first month of life in 2020. In Indonesia, the infant mortality rate stood at 16.85 per 1,000 live births in 2022, with Papua Province reporting the highest incidence. This study seeks to examine the determinants of infant mortality in Indonesia, with a focus on maternal age, antenatal care, immunization status, delivery conditions, parity, educational attainment, maternal employment, household income, and housing characteristics. Materials and Methods: This study utilized a quantitative cross-sectional design, analyzing secondary data from the Indonesian Demographic and Health Survey (IDHS) 2017. The sample comprised 658 women aged 15–49 years who delivered infants aged 0–11 months between 2012 and 2017 in Papua Province. The analytical approach consisted of three phases: univariate analysis to assess frequency distributions, bivariate analysis employing logistic regression (p < 0.05) to examine associations, and multivariate analysis using multiple logistic regression for simultaneous variable assessment. Variables with p-values < 0.25 were retained, while those exceeding 0.05 were sequentially eliminated, with emphasis on Odds Ratio (OR) variations. Results: The analysis identified maternal education level as the most significant predictor of infant mortality, demonstrating an Adjusted Odds Ratio (AOR) of 43.579 (p-value = 0.000, 95% CI = 5.549–342.235). Mothers with only basic education were 43.57 times more likely to experience infant mortality compared to those with advanced education. Conclusions: Maternal socioeconomic factors exert a substantial influence on infant mortality in Papua Province, and these findings can guide targeted interventions to mitigate mortality rates in the region.

Abstract

Introduction Student-centered learning (SCL) is based on students' needs, capacities, and other characteristics, making the method more personalized. This study aimed to analyze new questionnaires to categorize 4th-semester medical faculty students based on their characteristics. Understanding these characteristics could make the teaching and learning process more effective, potentially reducing the number of students retaking exams. Material and Methods: Subjects were 4th semester students who agreed to enroll and self-fulfilled the questionnaire. High achievers are defined as high expectations and consistent high performance (GPAs). Validity and reliability of each item were analyzed by statistical calculations accordingly. GPA in the next semester was used as threshold to confirm the participant's categorization. Results: The study commenced in March 2022, with 107 participants with Grade Point Averages (GPAs) available. The study demonstrated that the questionnaires had high validity and reliability (p-value < 0.005; Pearson Correlation Coefficient and Cronbach alpha). Among the participants, 3 (2.8%) were classified as high achievers, while 3 (28%) were categorized as low achievers. Notably, 44.86% of participants reported their passions as unrelated to medicine, while 5.61% were uncertain of their passions. Regarding vocation, 8.2% cited parental influence, and 10.3% felt their educational progress was not within their control. Conclusion: The questionnaires had high validity and reliability in item analysis. There were 2,8% of participants predicted as High Achievers and Low Achievers. Refinements of items and score presentation are needed. Follow-up activities should be given to the low achievers to prevent becoming retakers.

Abstract

HIGHLIGHTS Postpartum maternal mortality demonstrates associations with determinants including parity, place of residence, proficiency in the Indonesian language, socioeconomic status or wealth index, type of delivery attendant, and place of childbirth. Proficiency in the Indonesian language constitutes the most dominant factor, plausibly indicating inequalities in healthcare access, levels of health literacy, and conditions of geographic or social marginalization.   ABSTRACT Objective: This study utilized data from the Indonesia Demographic Health Survey (IDHS) 2020 to examine the relationship between postpartum maternal mortality and several determinants, including maternal, socioeconomic, and healthcare-related factors in Papua Province. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional design with a quantitative analytical framework was applied, drawing on secondary data from IDHS 2020. The sample comprised 14,802 women aged 15–49 years. Data were analyzed through a simple logistic regression test for bivariate analysis with a 95% confidence level (a = 0.05). Subsequently, multivariate multiple logistic regression analysis was conducted on variables with a p-value of less than 0.25. Results: Findings demonstrated that all variables (parity p<0.001 AOR=0.533 95% CI 0.375–0.758; place of residence p=0.001 AOR=2.526 95% CI 1.438–4.436; proficiency in Indonesian language p<0.001 AOR=0.039 95% CI 0.031–0.050; delivery attendant and place of birth p<0.001 AOR=0.118 95% CI 0.142–0.249, whereas wealth index status p=0.972 AOR=1.010 95% CI 0.565–1.806) showed a significant negative association with postpartum maternal mortality (p<0.05), except for the wealth index. The strongest association, with an odds ratio (OR) of 0.039, was identified in Indonesian language proficiency, indicating a 25.64-fold increase. Conclusion: The findings provide a crucial evidence base for the development of policies and interventions aimed at lowering postpartum maternal mortality in Papua Province. Proficiency in the Indonesian language emerged as the most influential factor, underscoring the potential for targeted interventions and improved healthcare outcomes.

Abstract

Introduction: This study was conducted to show that early prevention and treatment of cervical cancer can save on treatment costs. Cervical cancer is one of the biggest threats to women's health. This is related to the low awareness of women who have had active sexual relations in carrying out early detection of cervical cancer so that it can increase the incidence of cervical cancer. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between social support and client satisfaction on IVA service satisfaction by public health center officers. Methods: This study used an observational analytic study with a retrospective cohort design. The sample size used was 70 respondents with the same distribution in each control group and the exposed group, each using 35 respondents. The sampling technique used consecutive sampling. Univariate analysis using Chi-Square test. Bivariate analysis using Spearman correlation test. Results: The results of Univariate analysis in the control group and the exposed group showed that age (p= 0.4), education (p= 0.136), occupation (p= 0.622), length of marriage (p= 0.073), number of sexual partners (p= 0.073). = 0.602) and the number of children (p = 0.151). The results of bivariate analysis showed that husband's support (p= 0.735), mother's support (p= 0.984), health cadre support (p= 0.320) and peer support (p= 0.725). There is no relationship/correlation between social support and service satisfaction. Conclusion: There are other factors that can affect the satisfaction of women of childbearing age with early detection of cervical cancer (VIA) apart from social support.

Abstract

Breast cancer is one of the most common cancers worldwide. This study aims to investigate and analyze the relationship between the level of physical activity and the occurrence of breast cancer at Dr. Soetomo Hospital Surabaya. The research method employed in this study is correlation analysis. The sample population was obtained from the Cancer Service Development Center (PPLK) at Dr. Soetomo Hospital Surabaya. The results of this study indicate that the majority of the 53 research subjects suffering from breast cancer had low-intensity physical activity since childhood to adolescence, with 41.5% of the total subjects (22 patients). In contrast, only 24.5% (13 patients) and 34% (18 patients) had moderate and high-intensity physical activity, respectively. Statistical analysis using Microsoft Excel version 2019 and SPSS showed that the calculated Chi-square value was greater than the tabulated Chi-square value, thus rejecting the null hypothesis (H0). This indicates a significant relationship between the intensity of physical activity during childhood to adolescence and the occurrence of breast cancer in the research subjects. This study implicates the importance of awareness regarding the significance of physical activity in maintaining breast health, especially from a young age. The practical implication of this research is the necessity of a preventive approach to breast cancer involving the promotion of a healthy lifestyle and regular physical activity, particularly during childhood and adolescence.
