Abstract

Katumbangan Village is one of the villages in Campalagian Subdistrict that has soil fertility and a good rainfall climate supported by evenly distributed plant vegetation growth, making places like this very suitable for beef cattle farming. One of the innovations given to farmers in the prevention and handling of diseases is by providing herbal supplements as additional feed for livestock. Herbal supplements are a type of additional supplement given to livestock whose basic ingredients are made from herbs and spices.  The socialisation and demonstration activities on making and giving herbal supplements to ruminants are expected to make it easier for farmers to handle and prevent diseases in livestock through herbal supplements. The methods provided consist of: 1. socialisation or presentation of material on efforts to handle and prevent diseases through herbal supplements. 2. training and technology application is a hands-on demonstration on making herbal supplements. 3. monitoring and evaluation through pretest and posttest. The results of the implementation of community service increased the knowledge of farmers about the types of diseases, handling and prevention of diseases before training only 12% and after training there was an increase of 91%. Meanwhile, farmers' knowledge of herbal supplements before the community service activities from not knowing to 95%. In addition, there was an increase in farmers' knowledge about kitchen spice ingredients that can be used as herbal supplements for livestock. Abstract

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to analyze the factors affecting the interest of the young generation in the livestock sector. The research was conducted in the province of West Sulawesi, using a sample of 230 people selected through purposive sampling. Instrument testing used the Pearson product-moment and Alpha Cronbach. Data analysis used multiple linear regression, with variables consisting of independent variables: social factors (X1), economic factors (X2), government role (X3), demographics (X4), information access (X5), and technology support (X6), with the dependent variable being interest in working in the livestock sector (Y). The results of this study indicate that simultaneously, all independent variables—social factors, economic factors, government support, demographics, information access, and technology support—affect the dependent variable, which is the interest of youth in working in the livestock sector. Partially, only government support does not influence interest, while the variable with the greatest impact is the economic factor. The strength of the relationship between the independent variable and the dependent variable can be seen in the correlation coefficient (R) with a value of 0.871, which means the correlation is very strong. The magnitude of the influence of the independent variable on the dependent variable is reflected in the coefficient of determination (R2) value of 0.761 or 76.1%, in other words, there are other variables influencing outside the model by 23.9%.

Abstract

Since the COVID-19 epidemic broke out in Indonesia, the government of the Republic of Indonesia enacted the PSBB (Large-Scale Social Restrictions) policy on March 31, 2020, which restricts people's ability to engage in outdoor activities and impedes economic activity, particularly the livestock industry. The distribution of animal feed components during the PSBB was hampered by the supply of animal feed ingredients in West Sumatra region, which is still fulfilled from outside the region. 50 farmers were interviewed for this study during the implementation of the PSBB policy, and the data gathered included an observation of the variable smoothness of the transportation of poultry feed ingredients. 74% of respondents said that this transportation was smooth before the PSBB, but that smoothness decreased by up to 56% during implementation of the PSBB policy in Limapuluh Regency. City, West Sumatra Province.

Abstract

Livestock Insurance (LI) is a contract in which the insurance company provides protection and the farmer receives protection. In this agreement, the farmer pays an insurance premium to the insurance company in exchange for reimbursement if their livestock die due to disease, accident, birth, or loss in line with the terms and conditions of the insurance policy.. Farmers who use LI face numerous challenges, ranging from the registration process to the claims process when cattle die. Of course, the number of breeders joining LI has fluctuated due to a variety of factors, one of which is the difficulties that breeders face. The purpose of this study is to identify the factors impeding livestock in the implementation of Cattle Business Insurance in Gowa Regency. The data analysis done in this study is factor analysis to discover the factors that have the most influence. The research findings indicate that there are several impediments to the implementation of AUTS in Gowa Regency, with four factors influencing the most, namely a lack of socialization regarding AUTS, claims procedures that are poorly understood, the length of disbursement during claims, and the short time given at the time of claim.

Abstract

This study investigates the shift in consumer purchasing patterns from traditional markets to modern meat outlets in Majene Regency, a region located in a province with a low Human Development Index (HDI) but designated as an educational center in West Sulawesi, Indonesia. In recent years, Majene has seen an influx of expatriatess with higher education, knowledge, and income, likely influencing local purchasing behaviors. This research examines the factors contributing to the observed shift in meat purchasing patterns, focusing on cultural, social, personal, and psychological factors that affect purchasing decisions. Data were collected from 100 respondents, all homemakers, over one month from June to July 2024. Homemakers were chosen due to their primary role in household purchasing and decision-making regarding market selection and meat processing. Structural Equation Modeling with Partial Least Squares (SEM PLS) analysis was conducted using WarpPLS 7.0 software to determine the influence of cultural (X1), social (X2), personal (X3), and psychological (X4) factors on purchasing decisions (Y). The results indicate that psychological factors exert the highest level of significance on purchasing decisions, with a coefficient of 0.557, followed by cultural factors (0.165), social factors (0.050), and personal factors (-0.082). The prominence of psychological factors may be attributed to the profile of respondents, many of whom are lecturers and private sector employees from outside Majene. This demographic shift and perceptions of higher quality and safety at modern outlets have encouraged transitioning from traditional markets to modern meat outlets. These findings contribute to understanding consumer behavior changes in small-city contexts and offer insights into the role of psychological and demographic factors in shaping retail preferences in developing regions.
