Abstract

Introduction: Adolescents are vulnerable to nutritional issues such as undernutrition and overnutrition, which can affect their physical and cognitive development. Balanced nutrition is essential, particularly for children in orphanages, who often face challenges in accessing nutritious food and health education. Objective: This community service aimed to improve knowledge and awareness about "Isi Piringku" and the importance of consuming animal protein among school-aged children at the Gotong Royong Orphanage, Bantul, Yogyakarta. Method: The program involved 22 children aged 6–15 years and their caregivers. Activities included pre-surveys, nutritional status assessments, interactive education sessions combining lectures, videos, games, and a hands-on demonstration of making Sea-Dimsum enriched with animal protein. Pre- and post-tests measured knowledge levels before and after the intervention. Results: The educational intervention significantly improved knowledge, with good knowledge scores rising from 57% pre-test to 87% post-test. The Sea-Dimsum demonstration engaged participants, fostering a practical understanding of balanced nutrition. Challenges included varying comprehension levels due to age differences, affecting knowledge retention among younger participants. Conclusion: The program effectively increased nutritional knowledge by 30%, emphasizing the importance of balanced diets and animal protein. Future initiatives could include diverse nutritional topics, such as interpreting food labels and selecting healthy snacks, to further enhance nutrition literacy and health outcomes.

Abstract

Handgrip strength (HGS) reflects muscle health and is linked to hypertension, yet its relationship with blood pressure (BP) in older adults is underexplored. DASH dietary patterns, crucial for BP management, may provide further insights into this connection. This study aims to examine the association between HGS and DASH eating behavior with blood pressure in pre-elderly and elderly populations. A cross-sectional study was conducted on pre-elderly and elderly outpatient at Wirosaban Hospital, Yogyakarta in July to August 2024. HGS was measured using a hand dynamometer, while BP was recorded using a standard sphygmomanometer. Adherence to DASH were measured by 24-hour food recall and then categorized by questionnaire of DASH eating behavior. Data were analyzed by correlation and multiple regression, with α 5%. Hypertension was found in about 68.8% of subjects. Subjects who have lower HGS were about 68.8% and 81.7% of low category of DASH eating behavior. Participants with lower HGS had notably higher systolic and diastolic BP compared to those with higher HGS. Stratification analysis revealed that there were no significant association between HGS and high blood pressure both in elderly and pre-elderly (p 0.063 and p 1.000). In the other hand, low DASH eating behavior was significantly related to higher blood pressure in pre-elderly group (p 0.031). Reduced HGS is likely linked to higher BP in the elderly. Maintaining DASH-like diet adherence and muscle strength may be crucial in mitigating hypertension risk and comorbidity in older adults.

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is still a disease problem experienced by the pre-elderly and elderly in the Yogyakarta area. Uncontrolled blood sugar levels in people with diabetes mellitus are caused by several factors, including intake, compliance, medication, and quality of grip strength, which describes physical fitness. The purpose of this study was to analyze the relationship between diabetes mellitus diet compliance and handgrip strength with blood sugar levels of pre-elderly in the Pandak 2 Health Center Area. This study employed a cross-sectional design to assess pre-elderly individuals at the Pandak Health Center from September to November 2024. We collected data on diet compliance using a questionnaire, grip strength with a handgrip dynamometer, and instantaneous blood sugar levels with a glucometer. Data were analyzed using chi-square with α (<0.05). Uncontrolled blood sugar levels in this study were 64%, with dietary compliance at 34.4%. There was a significant relationship between DM diet compliance and blood sugar levels (p 0.011), and there was a significant relationship between grip strength and blood sugar levels (p 0.001). Dietary non-compliance affects blood sugar control and pre-elderly people with weak grip strength tend to have poor blood sugar control.

Abstract

The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has caused drastic changes to social lives moreover the activities done outside, such as work and school. The policy of large-scale social restrictions (LSRR)/Pembatasan Sosial Berskala Besar (PSBB), which makes people stay at home, also plays an important role in changing the face-to-face activity online. As a solution to the major change, people use video conferencing to keep in touch and still feel like doing "offline" activities. The increasing use of video conferencing has raised concerns about the resulting fatigue, termed "Zoom fatigue." This study aimed to describe Zoom fatigue during the COVID-19 pandemic and the factors contributing to it. This study used a cross-sectional design with 376 participants. Data were gathered by completing a 45-item online questionnaire, which was analyzed using univariate, bivariate (Chi-square), and multivariate (binomial logistic regression) analyses. It was found that 68.6% of respondents experienced Zoom fatigue at a moderate to a high level. Respondents complained of se - veral symptoms related to activity, motivation, and physical weakness after using the video platform. In brief, Zoom fatigue is real, and the frequency of video platform use is related to the incidence of Zoom fatigue.
