Abstract

Anemia remains a common health problem among adolescents, characterized by low hemoglobin (Hb) levels that affect health, academic performance, productivity, and the overall quality of human resources in the future. This study aimed to determine the effect of anemia education on adolescents’ intention to undergo hemoglobin testing at SMP Negeri 1 Gamping, Yogyakarta. The research employed a quantitative approach with a pre-experimental method using a one-group pre-test and post-test design. A total of 36 respondents participated in the study. The instrument used was a questionnaire. The participants, aged 12–13 years, consisted of an equal proportion of males and females. Before the intervention, most respondents (78%) demonstrated a moderate level of intention to undergo hemoglobin testing. After the anemia education intervention, the proportion of respondents with a high level of intention increased from 11% to 22%, while those with a low level of intention decreased from 11% to 8%. The Paired Sample t-Test yielded a Sig. (2-tailed) value of 0.000 (< 0.05), indicating a significant effect of anemia education on adolescents’ intention to undergo hemoglobin testing. The findings suggest that anemia education is effective in enhancing adolescents’ intention to have their hemoglobin levels checked, making it a valuable preventive educational strategy for the early detection of anemia among adolescents.

Abstract

Abstract

Indonesia has Southeast Asia's second-highest child stunting rate and fifth-highest globally. Malnutrition can cause stunting, especially during the First 1000 Days of Life (HPK). This study aims to investigate the role of the family support unit in preventing stunting in a particular Integrated Service Post in Indonesia. This is a qualitative investigation. This study included 5 participants: family planning cadres, cadres, village midwives, and members with toddlers and expectant mothers. The results of the data analysis indicated the function of companion team families in preventing stunting, particularly for pregnant women and mothers with children. This demonstrates that the duties assigned are appropriate for their positions, as outlined in the Guidelines for Implementing Family Assistance in Efforts to Accelerate Stunting Reduction. The Family Support Team's function is particularly effective in decreasing stunting, especially for pregnant women and mothers with children under two years old who are at risk because stunting rates decrease with assistance. It is expected that there would be more monitoring of the improvement of each cadre's skills in carrying out their tasks and roles by the guidelines so that they can be more optimised in providing support.

Abstract

This study investigates the level of knowledge on healthy lifestyles among seventh-grade students at a public junior school in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Utilizing quantitative descriptive research, data was collected through a questionnaire administered to 64 students. Analysis revealed a varied distribution of knowledge levels, with 53.1% demonstrating sufficient understanding, and 9.4% exhibiting limited knowledge. The findings underscore the importance of improving health education to empower students to make informed decisions. Collaborative efforts with Community Health Centers and implementation of healthy living initiatives are recommended to enhance students' health literacy and promote healthier lifestyles. These findings contribute to the ongoing discourse on enhancing health education among youth, with implications for promoting well-being and positive health outcomes.

Abstract

Anemia remains a major public health problem among women of reproductive age worldwide, particularly in developing countries such as Indonesia. Limitations of conventional anemia management, including adherence issues and side effects of iron supplementation, have encouraged interest in complementary therapies such as wet cupping therapy (WCT). This study aimed to systematically map existing empirical evidence on the effects of wet cupping therapy on hemoglobin levels and hematological parameters in women through a scoping review approach. The review was conducted following the PRISMA-ScR guidelines. Literature searches were performed across multiple databases, including PubMed, Scopus, Google Scholar, and institutional repositories, resulting in 312 identified records. After screening and eligibility assessment, six studies published between 2016 and 2023 were included. The selected studies employed diverse designs, including experimental clinical trials, quasi-experimental, pre–post, cross-sectional, prospective cohort, and retrospective observational studies, with sample sizes ranging from 17 to 364 female participants. Across all studies, wet cupping therapy was associated with either maintenance or improvement of hemoglobin levels, as well as favorable changes in iron, total iron-binding capacity, and other biochemical parameters. No evidence indicated that WCT caused anemia when administered appropriately. Overall, the findings suggest that wet cupping therapy may serve as a safe and potentially beneficial complementary intervention for improving hematological status in women. However, further research using randomized controlled trials and standardized intervention protocols is required to establish its clinical effectiveness and inform evidence-based practice.

Abstract

Earthquakes can significantly affect children's development both physically and psychologically. School experience in disaster management becomes one of the foundations for formulating needs and policies in earthquakes disaster mitigation within the school environment. This study aimed to capture the experience of schools in Bantul, Yogyakarta, in dealing with earthquakes events. Using a qualitative approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews and analyzed thematically to identify codes and themes emerging from the data, related to school-based disaster management. Analysis yielded nine major categories describing how schools prepare for, respond to, and recover from earthquakes. The findings highlight the critical role of disaster education and preparedness within school settings and reveal the need for clear procedures supporting children’s physical and psychological recovery after an earthquake. These insights underscore the importance of cross-sector collaboration and policy development to strengthen school-based disaster mitigation and post-earthquake recovery programs.

Abstract

One of the efforts made to facilitate breast milk production is by doing back massage. Back massage is one solution to overcome insufficient breast milk. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of back massage on increasing oxytocin levels in breastfeeding mothers at TPMB Istri Utami, Yogyakarta. This study used a quantitative method with a quasi-experimental research design with a one-group pretest-posttest design. The population in this study were 30 breastfeeding mothers with normal delivery. The number of samples was 30. The instruments used were observation sheets and questionnaires. There was a difference in increasing oxytocin levels in breastfeeding mothers before and after back massage with the results of the logistic regression test using the F test obtained a sig. value of 0.004 <0.05, and using the t test obtained a sig. value of 0.005 <0.05 with an Exp (B) / OR value of 8,750 having a chance of 8,750 times increasing oxytocin levels after being given treatment (back massage). Value B = Natural Logarithm of 8.750 = 2.558. Back massage has an effect on increasing oxytocin levels in breastfeeding mothers.
