Abstract

The potential wind speed in Indonesia is generally low at 3 m/s to 7 m/s so that this type of vertical axis turbine is considered very suitable for use in wind conditions in Indonesia. There are several types of vertical axis wind turbines. One type of vertical axis wind turbine is the Savonius wind turbine. Many advantages that this type of wind turbine has, such as being able to receive wind from all directions, easy and cheap to manufacture, and can rotate at a fairly low angular speed. This test was carried out to determine the performance of conventional and modified savonius turbines with 2 and 3 blades variables in each turbine blade shape. The form of modification made is by changing the shape of the blade twisting by 45o. The turbine is carried out on a laboratory scale with a wind source using a fan that is directly opposite the turbine. The results showed that the highest turbine power occurred in a modified 2-blade turbine, namely 1.88 Watt with a torque value of 0.04 Nm and a shaft rotation of 450 rpm. The highest rotation value is also obtained by 2 modified blades at a wind speed of 6 m/s producing 896 rpm. However, the highest torque value is obtained by a conventional 2-blade turbine with a value of 0.136 Nm. The highest turbine efficiency in each turbine is obtained by a modified 2 blade turbine with an efficiency value of 36.92% while the highest turbine efficiency for a modified 3 blade turbine reaches 11.69% which is considered less efficient than other turbines.

Abstract

Wind Power Generation (WPG) requires specific wind conditions to generate electrical energy. Indonesia's wind potential enables the development of small-scale power plants. Innovations in windmill technology need to be developed to ensure maximum results in low wind speed conditions. This research proposes the design and implementation of WPG using a vertical axis to provide lighting for pond houses. The goal is to benefit pond workers in coastal areas that lack electricity from the National Electric Company. The manufacturing stages include design and testing. Based on the design results, the dimensions of the propeller area are 0.393m, the frame height is 1.5m, and the wind turbine height is 0.75m. The performance test of the WPG yielded the highest turbine power value at 15.30 WITA, with a turbine power output of 25.38 Watts.

Abstract

Generator instability, which manifests as oscillations in frequency and rotor angle, is brought on by sudden disruptions in the power supply. Power System Stabilizer (PSS) and Energy Storage are additional controllers that enhance generator stability. Energy storage types include superconducting magnetic (SMES) and capacitive (CES) storage. If the correct settings are employed, PSS, SMES, and CES coordination can boost system performance. It is necessary to use accurate and effective PSS, SMES, and CES tuning techniques. Artificial intelligence techniques can replace traditional trial-and-error tuning techniques and assist in adjusting controller parameters. According to this study, the PSS, SMES, and CES parameters can be optimized using a method based on particle swarm optimization (PSO). Based on the investigation's findings, PSO executes quick and accurate calculations in the fifth iteration with a fitness function value of 0.007813. The PSO aims to reduce the integral time absolute error (ITAE). With the addition of a load-shedding instance, the case study utilized the Single Machine Infinite Bus (SMIB) technology. The frequency response and rotor angle of the SMIB system are shown via time domain simulation. The analysis's findings demonstrate that the controller combination can offer stability, reducing overshoot oscillations and enabling quick settling times.

Abstract

To maintain the reliability of the plant so that it continues to operate optimally, therefore the company management has arranged several scheduled maintenance activities. The result of the delay in maintenance had an impact on some equipment so that it suffered fatal damage. One of the mechanical problems that occur in PLTA BAKARU is water leakage that occurs in the guide vane. At the PLTA Bakaru unit, the impact of this guide vane leak can cause the generator to trip with an indication of 133 QBL and require the unit to leave the concession for some time. Thus the result of the disturbance becomes a loss for the company because it cannot produce electricity. From the results of the analysis, it was found that the amount of water needed to generate 1 kwh in unit 1 of PLTA Bakaru was 0.000295 m3 / s, the amount of energy loss caused by leaks in the guide vane was 121,975,031 kWh in 2015; 41,933.26 kWh in 2016; 135,591.42 kWh in 2017; and 518,637.17 kWh in 2018, power losses also occurred in the use of pumps for handling leakages of 75 kW. the amount of water consumption continued to increase from 2015 to 2018 before the overhaull and after overhaul maintenance the SWC value decreased to 0.29365 at 63 MW unit load operations.

Abstract

This research proposes an additional controller for load frequency control at a micro hydro power plant using PID-SMES. The PID-SMES parameters are optimized using smart methods called Ant Colony Optimization (ACO), which could find the optimal value of PID-SMES. In this paper four control approaches are compared which are P, PI, PID, SMES, and PID-SMES. From the simulation results, it can be obtained that overshoot of P controller is -0.0002193, with PI Controller is -0.0002183, with PD Controller is -0.0002139, with PID controller is -0.0002129, with SMES controller is -0.0001958, and with PID-SMES is -4.187e-05. ACO optimization results obtained fitness function value of 7.15e-09, with 50 iterations. The minimum value of the system performance function at each iteration is plotted on the convergence graph. In the simulation result, it can be concluded that the ACO algorithm could be quickly convergence on the 14th iteration or find the most optimal value at the 9th iteration. The PID-SMES controller proposed in this study has a significant influence in the damping of the oscillation of frequency deviation. Therefore, PID-SMES is appropriate to be applied to micro-hydro power plant.

Abstract

The energy of river water flow or irrigation canals can be utilized by using a horizontal axis Savonius turbine, which converts low-speed river flow into electrical power with good design. The design of this turbine needs to pay attention to several parameters, namely, the deflector angle, the number of blades, the diameter and thickness of the blades, and the diameter and thickness of the end plates. However, the problem usually encountered is imperfect turbine construction due to the large drag force that occurs so that the power generated is low. Based on this background, it is proposed to manufacture and test the performance of a series Savonius underwater rotors with a horizontal axis. The research results found that the generator voltage without load was 25.6 V when the turbine only rotated at 47.2 rpm, whereas when under load, the average power produced was 8.5 watts with an average turbine speed of 31 rpm. The highest efficiency value on the rotor is 86.73%, with a torque value of 3.36 at a turbine speed of 29.9 rpm. This indicates that the tool can generate large torque at low speeds.

Abstract

Installing rooftop Solar Power Plants (SPP) represents the most efficient solution for reducing substantial electricity consumption in office buildings and hospitals, as Makassar Eye Hospital exemplifies. The research commences by addressing concerns about electricity availability and daily usage at the hospital while evaluating the solar radiation potential. Subsequently, the development of the SPP system begins. A location assessment is conducted using various tools to gather the necessary data for SPP design. In this study, the planning phase involves the utilization of PVSyst software for the technical analysis of electrical energy generation and system performance calculations. Additionally, the economic analysis includes evaluating the initial investment costs for establishing the SPP and considering prevailing market prices for components. The feasibility of the SPP investment is determined by calculating key financial metrics, including the Payback Period (PP), Net Present Value (NPV), Internal Rate of Return (IRR), Profitability Index (PI), and Return on Investment (ROI). According to the economic analysis findings, the initial investment cost for the SPP amounts to Rp. 544.031.733. The energy production value per kilowatt-hour (kWh) stands at Rp. 1.278, resulting in a Payback Period (PP) of 13,8 years, a Net Present Value (NPV) of Rp. 138.182.638, an Internal Rate of Return (IRR) of 11.51%, and a Return on Investment (ROI) of 25.4%. These results affirm the plan's feasibility, as the IRR value surpasses the Discount Rate (8.43%).
