Abstract

This paper presents the design and development of an internet of things (IoT)-based automatic waste sorting system that classifies waste into four categories: organic, non-organic, metal, and others. The system integrates an Arduino Mega for control, multiple proximity sensors (inductive, capacitive, and infrared), and ultrasonic sensors for level detection, and a NodeMCU ESP8266 for real-time monitoring via the Blynk platform. A total of 100 tests (25 per bin) were conducted. Classification success rates were 92% (metal), 80% (inorganic), 84% (organic), and 100% (others), resulting in an overall accuracy of 89%. The main contribution is a combined automatic sorting and IoT monitoring framework suitable for campus-scale deployment.

Abstract

This research will discuss a strategy of frequency control at micro hydro power plant using Capacitive Energy Storage (CES). CES is a device that can store and release energy quickly. To optimize CES performance, proper tuning is required to optimize CES performance. To obtain optimal CES parameter on micro hydro, artificial intelligence method based on Imperialist Competitive Algorithm (ICA) is used. Proportional Integral Derivative Controller (PID) is still a controller that can not be separated from the system, therefore in this research will be combined with CES as the main controller for frequency control on micro hydro. The simulation results show that the application of ICA in optimizing PID-CES parameters, can well improve micro hydro performance. The control models discussed in this research are Proportional Controller (P), Proportional Integral Controller (PI), Proportional Derivative Controller (PD), PID Controller, CES Controller and PID-CES Controller. From the simulation results obtained, P controller overshoot of -0.0001254, with PI Controller -0.000125, with PD Controller -0.0001252, with PID controller -0.0001249, with CES controller -0.0001224, and with PID-CES -1.371e-05. From the results of some of the controller models, it can be concluded that the PID-CES controller proposed in this study has a very significant effect to reduce the frequency oscillation in micro hydro, and it is very suitable to be applied for frequency control at micro hydro.

Abstract

Changes in the load on the electric power system suddenly cause dynamic disturbances. The disturbance causes the stability of the generator to be disturbed, because the generator does not respond to the disturbance quickly. This causes oscillations in the generator in the form of oscillations of frequency and rotor angle. One of the additional control equipment that can increase the stability of a generator is the Power System Stabilizer (PSS). With the PSS installation, the optimal frequency response and rotor angle of the SMIB system are obtained, indicated by the minimum system overshot response. The controller is able to provide stability so that overshoot oscillations can be suppressed, as well as faster settling time performance for the system to reach steady state conditions. To test the stability of the SMIB system, a case study of adding and subtracting loads is used, with the proposed control method using PSS.

Abstract

An overhaul is a process of dismantling a problematic engine so that it can be examined more thoroughly. During the overhaul, the problematic engine components are replaced. The overhaul of the sphere gap setting of the semi-automatic high impulse voltage generation is also intended to maximize the K3 system and the level of accuracy when conducting research on impulse voltage generation. The current condition after the occurrence of damage to the automatic sphere gap adjustment machine. The sphere gap setting is done manually, causing the desired ball gap distance to be not very accurate, and the risk of work accidents is higher in the high voltage laboratory. In the first stage of work, an inspection and measurement were carried out to replace the capacitor and limit switch components because they could no longer be used. As well as improvements to the electromagnetic brake components. From the test results, it was found that the distance measurement was as expected and it can be proven that after an overhaul, the semi-automatic spacer can function normally again so it can make it easier to conduct high voltage impulse research. In addition, from a security point of view, it is better because the spacing between the balls is done outside the high-voltage impulse generation cage

Abstract

The Industrial Electronics Practicum is an advanced learning process complementing theoretical knowledge and is mandatory for every student in the Energy Conversion Engineering (TKE) Study Program at Ujung Pandang State Polytechnic (PNUP). Nevertheless, its implementation is often suboptimal due to the lack of practicum modules available in the TKE Laboratory. To address this issue, this research aims to design and create a practicum module for a controlled single-phase rectifier, filling the gap in the TKE Laboratory's offerings. The design carried out in this research begins with thyristor selection, control circuit design, mechanical design, and power circuit design. After the design is carried out, it continues with manufacturing and assembly, tool testing, and data analysis. In the practical module testing, this controlled single-phase rectifier uses half waves, with a resistive load (R). The test results of the module that has been created show that this practical module can operate well and produce an output waveform that can be said to be in accordance with theory.

Abstract

Ketersediaan air irigasi merupakan kendala utama bagi petani di Kampung Kaluku, Kabupaten Bantaeng, terutama pada musim kemarau ketika sebagian besar lahan tidak dapat ditanami. Kegiatan ini bertujuan menyediakan sumber air irigasi yang berkelanjutan melalui penerapan pompa air tenaga surya serta meningkatkan kapasitas petani dalam pengoperasian dan perawatan teknologi tersebut. Pelaksanaan kegiatan dilakukan melalui observasi lapangan, perancangan sistem, instalasi pompa tenaga surya, pelatihan teknis, dan pendampingan langsung bersama kelompok tani. Sebanyak 37 anggota Kelompok Tani Kelapa Muda terlibat dalam proses instalasi dan pelatihan. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan bahwa sistem mampu mengalirkan air 20–25 m³ per hari, memenuhi sekitar 70% kebutuhan irigasi, serta menghilangkan biaya operasional yang sebelumnya dikeluarkan untuk pompa diesel. Para petani juga memperoleh peningkatan kemampuan teknis dan kemandirian dalam mengelola sistem energi surya. Kegiatan ini menyimpulkan bahwa penerapan teknologi irigasi berbasis energi surya dapat meningkatkan keterlibatan, kemandirian, dan keberlanjutan praktik pertanian masyarakat desa.

Abstract

This study proposes a Multi Band Power System Stabilizer (MB-PSS) optimized with the Hippopotamus Optimization Algorithm (HOA) to enhance dynamic stability in the Southern Sulawesi (Sulbagsel) electricity system integrated with wind power plants (WPPs). Unlike previous works applying HOA to distribution networks or photovoltaic optimization, this study addresses a key gap: the absence of HOA based stabilizer optimization in large scale multi machine systems, particularly in Sulbagsel. The novelty lies in positioning HOA as an alternative swarm intelligence method suited to the nonlinear characteristics of MB-PSS tuning. While the claim of being the first HOA application in Sulbagsel requires stronger justification, this study extends its relevance by bridging overlaps in related domains. Damping analysis and time domain simulations are conducted to benchmark HOA against Grey Wolf Optimization (GWO) and Whale Optimization Algorithm (WOA). Results show that HOA achieves superior performance: overshoot in generator speed deviation decreases to 0.009923 to 0.002359 p.u., settling time reduces from 16s without stabilizer to 9.58s, and the maximum damping ratio increases to 0.7185. These outcomes confirm HOA’s capability to improve oscillation damping, though additional reporting of frequency responses and voltage stability metrics would strengthen the empirical contribution. Theoretically, this study highlights HOA’s balance between exploration and exploitation, making it suitable for multimodal cost functions in stabilizer tuning. However, broader theoretical implications, such as HOA’s advancement of stability theory beyond empirical results, remain underexplored. Future research should address this dimension to consolidate HOA’s role in advanced power system stability studies.
