Abstract

Indonesia is experiencing a deficit in crude oil, necessitating the country to import oil from other nations. In response to this, the government has issued policies to replace fossil fuels with biodiesel, especially from palm oil. Palm oil biodiesel is identified as a crucial component in achieving the renewable energy blend targets set by the government. This research employs a descriptive qualitative method with a case study approach to analyze the factors influencing the development of palm oil biodiesel. The results of the analysis of internal and external factors indicate that palm oil biodiesel has the strength to enhance the value-added of palm oil products. However, there are weaknesses related to uneven fuel supply storage. The most significant opportunities lie in a promising market due to the consistently high demand for fuel, but threats arise from palm oil production prioritized for export. Through a SWOT analysis, six strategies are derived to ensure the sustainability of biodiesel production, enhance the quality of operational facilities, and provide transparent information to the public. Subsequently, the SMART Goals analysis sets specific, measurable, achievable, realistic, and timely targets for the new renewable energy blend through the specific development of palm oil biodiesel. This research focuses on concrete strategies and steps that can be implemented to optimize the role of palm oil biodiesel in achieving new renewable energy targets in Indonesia.

Abstract

Smallholder oil palm plantations have a high contribution to economic growth. In addition, smallholder oil palm plantations also play an important role in achieving Indonesia’s SDGs economic goals. Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are a global platform with 17 main development goals and 169 target indicators. One of the main goals of SDGs is poverty alleviation. However, the problem of poverty in Indonesia is still relatively high. Based on data compiled by BPS, the number of poor people in Indonesia tends to fluctuate from 2013 to 2022. The concept of SDGs in poverty alleviation is in accordance with smallholder oil palm plantations, which have large market and employment opportunities. This study aims to determine the role of smallholder oil palm plantations in achieving Indonesia’s SDGs economic goals and factors affecting the poverty rate using quarterly data from 2013 to 2022. The research design uses qualitative descriptive approach with process documentation method using color mapping and Eviews12 software. The results show that the role of smallholder oil palm plantations in achieving Indonesia’s SDGs economic goals is categorized “Very Contributing” with an average score of 2,45. Factors that have a negative effect on poverty rate are palm oil production and labor. The price has a positive effect on poverty rate. While, the GDP of farms has no effect on the poverty rate. This is due to the inequality in economic growth patterns in Indonesia and the GDP advantage is not perceived equally by all people.

Abstract

Environmental damage, particularly in the field of agriculture, remains a hot topic of national discourse. On the other hand, human demands for natural resources and agriculture are on the rise in tandem with population growth. In response to these circumstances, a new paradigm for the development of environmentally friendly and sustainable agricultural systems and lifestyles has emerged in Indonesia, known as permaculture, which embodies ethical principles. The objective of this research is to examine how the ethics of permaculture can serve as a scientific solution to environmental and economic sustainability, aiming to alleviate concerns among organic farmers. The research is conducted at Kebun Hanif Regenerative Culture in West Bandung Regency. This study employs a qualitative descriptive method. The research findings indicate that the application of permaculture ethics in Kebun Hanif demonstrates commendable environmental sustainability, as evidenced by various indicators such as soil physical, biological, and chemical properties, which signify fertile soil. Economic sustainability through the application of permaculture ethics is also deemed viable based on a business feasibility analysis. Consequently, farmer anxieties have diminished because, by adopting permaculture ethics, not only is environmental sustainability achieved, but economic viability and sustainability are also proven.

Abstract

The world is currently experiencing environmental damage, it’s caused by the problem of waste that dominated by plastic. However, Generation Z as the nation's successor and information generation is expected to reduce the use of plastic to reduce environmental damage. This research focuses on Generation Z: student of Faculty of Agriculture, Padjadjaran University with the aim of 1) knowing the level of environmental awareness, attitudes, subjective norms, perceived behavioral control, and purchase intention, 2) knowing the factors that influence purchase intention for tumbler and eco-friendly straw products, and 3) the value of willingness to pay and the factors that influence it. This research was conducted using descriptive tests, multiple linear regression tests, CVM tests, and logistic regression tests. Based on the results of the analysis, it is known that the level of environmental awareness, attitudes, subjective norms, perceived behavioral control, and purchase intention are at a good level. Factors that have a significant effect are environmental awareness, attitudes, and perceived behavioral control, while subjective norms do not have a significant effect. Willingness to Pay value on tumbler is Rp.44.645 and eco-friendly straws is Rp.13.685. Willingness to Pay is influenced by gender and income.
