Abstract

Hanjeli (Coix lacryma-jobi L.) is a local cereal crop with strong potential as an alternative food source and economic commodity rooted in local wisdom. However, the development of hanjeli agribusiness still faces several challenges, such as limited resources, suboptimal marketing strategies, and low public awareness. This study aims to evaluate the economic feasibility and formulate sustainable business strategies for hanjeli agribusiness at the Pantastik Cooperative in Wado, Sumedang. A case study approach was employed, combining a qualitative method using the Sustainable Business Model Canvas (SBMC) framework and a quantitative approach through farm feasibility analysis. The results indicate that the hanjeli business model demonstrates strengths in its value proposition, particularly in delivering eco-social benefits such as farmer empowerment, biodiversity conservation, and environmental preservation. Nevertheless, the model also encounters critical barriers in distribution channels, limited access to capital, and human resource capacity. The feasibility analysis reveals that hanjeli farming is economically viable, with an R/C ratio of 2.4 indicating profitability, and a break-even point (BEP) of 128 kg per production cycle. This study highlights significant opportunities to advance sustainable hanjeli agribusiness through the strategic integration of economic, social, and environmental dimensions. The findings imply the need for collaborative efforts among government stakeholders, cooperatives, the private sector, and communities to strengthen the resilience and sustainability of inclusive local agribusiness systems.

Abstract

Land use change in tea plantation areas in West Java is a complex phenomenon influenced by the interaction of various social, economic, and environmental factors. This study aims to identify the driving factors behind tea land conversion through a systematic literature review of reputable scientific publications from 2020 to 2024. Thematic analysis shows that generational shifts among farmers, weak local institutions, short-term economic incentives, market price pressures, ecological degradation due to monoculture practices, and climate change are the dominant drivers of land conversion. The interaction of social, economic, and environmental factors creates reinforcing feedback loops that accelerate land use change. This phenomenon results in trade-offs between short-term income gains and the loss of strategic ecosystem services. The findings highlight the importance of evidence-based spatial planning policies, land conservation incentives, local community empowerment, and the integration of spatial mapping and ecosystem valuation. This study recommends future research to develop predictive models of land conversion using spatial technology and quantitative ecosystem valuation methods to support sustainable tea plantation land protection policies in West Java.

Abstract

The conversion of rice fields into non-agricultural areas in Bandung Regency has continued to rise in line with rapid urbanization and infrastructure development. This phenomenon not only reduces agricultural land area but also leads to the loss of essential ecosystem services such as food production, water conservation, and carbon sequestration. This study aims to assess the ecological value of converted rice fields through a review of national and international literature and a local case study. This research applies a quantitative descriptive method using a case study approach in Bandung Regency. The valuation technique uses the Market Price Method (MPM) to estimate the economic value of lost food production services due to land conversion. Secondary data were obtained from BPS, the Agricultural Office, and previous studies, and analyzed through ecosystem economic valuation based on market prices and land use changes. The findings indicate that between 2019 and 2024, approximately 2,413 hectares of rice fields were converted. Assuming a rice yield of 5.6 tons/hectare/season, two planting seasons per year, and a dry grain price of Rp7,800/kg, the estimated economic loss in food production services reaches Rp210.8 billion. These results highlight the importance of integrating ecological valuation into spatial planning and farmland protection policies. Recommendations include strengthening land protection regulations, providing ecosystem service-based economic incentives, and improving spatial monitoring systems to prevent unsustainable land conversion.

Abstract

Local commodity-based tourism villages have the potential to support sustainable tourism by integrating economic value, cultural heritage, and community empowerment. However, many still lack a well-structured business model. This study aims to describe the business model of the Hanjeli Tourism Village in Sukabumi Regency using the Business Model Canvas (BMC) approach. This village promotes hanjeli (Coix lacryma-jobi) as its main attraction through a community-based educational tourism concept. The method used is descriptive qualitative, with data collected through interviews, observation, and documentation. The results show that the tourism village has diverse customer segments, a unique value proposition in the form of hanjeli education and cultural preservation, and utilizes promotional channels such as social media and tourism exhibitions. The village generates revenue from various sources, including educational tourism packages, processed hanjeli products, homestay services, and donation support. Its key resources include the local community, hanjeli crops, and village infrastructure. Key activities involve education, cultivation, product processing, and promotion, supported by partnerships with government institutions, academics, and community groups. This study contributes by demonstrating how the BMC approach can be used to design an integrated business model for tourism villages based on local potential and can serve as a reference for similar tourism village development in other regions.

Abstract

Palm oil is one of Indonesia’s key export commodities, contributing significantly to the national economy. However, the expansion of exports continues to face challenges such as limited distribution channels, restricted access to global markets, and a lack of transparency in the supply chain. Amid rapid advancements in digital technology, e-commerce has emerged as a potential solution to address these issues, particularly for downstream products such as crude palm oil (CPO). This study aims to analyze the role of e-commerce in supporting the export of Indonesian palm oil commodities to global markets. The research employs a qualitative-descriptive approach using literature review and secondary data analysis sourced from trade institutions and e-commerce platforms. Content analysis was used to examine relevant documents and data to identify patterns, opportunities, and constraints. The findings indicate that e-commerce contributes to accelerating product promotion, expanding international buyer networks, and improving logistics efficiency and transaction transparency in export activities. Nevertheless, several obstacles remain, including limited digital trade regulations, uneven digital infrastructure across regions, and low digital literacy among agribusiness MSMEs. This study concludes that e-commerce holds considerable potential to enhance the global reach of Indonesia's palm oil exports. Therefore, it is recommended that the government adopt supportive policies, strengthen the capacity of small and medium enterprises, and integrate digital logistics systems at the national level to fully harness the benefits of e-commerce in export development.

Abstract

Rapid urbanization and ecological pressures in urban areas demand more sustainable, inclusive, and adaptive city planning. Green Open Space (GOS) is seen as a strategic green infrastructure that not only functions ecologically as a microclimate balancer and provider of environmental services, but also plays a socio-cultural role as a public space that encourages social cohesion, expression of local identity, and improving the quality of life of city residents. This study reviews 30 national and international articles discussing GOS from five main sub-themes: policy and governance, spatial and design aspects, socio-cultural and ecological functions, roles in strengthening public space and social cohesion, and economic and ecological valuation. The results of the review show that various challenges are still faced in the implementation of GOS, ranging from weak integration of cross-sector policies, spatial inequality, to the lack of a participatory approach in planning. On the other hand, a number of studies also show the great potential of GOS as a means of mitigating climate change, a medium for citizen participation, and a symbol of the city's collective identity. Thus, the planning and management of GOS need to be carried out with a multidisciplinary approach, based on evidence, and in favor of social justice and ecological sustainability. Keywords: green open space, sustainable city, urban ecology, public space, social cohesion, ecological valuation.

Abstract

Nutmeg has high economic value and is an important trade commodity for Indonesia. However, the decline in nutmeg exports shows that there are problems that must be resolved in order to remain competitive in the global market. To assess the comparative competitiveness of Indonesian nuts in export destination markets, namely China, Vietnam, India, the Netherlands, and the United States, this study uses the Revealed Comparative Advantage (RCA) method and secondary data, namely time series data for 10 years from 2013 to 2022, with a statistical descriptive approach. Based on this data, it can be concluded that Indonesian nutmeg is competitively in the global market, as evidenced by the RCA value of more than one in five export destination countries. India has the lowest RCA value, while the Netherlands is the main market with the highest value. For future development, the Indonesian government should prioritize the development of markets such as China, Vietnam, and India, and stakeholders should work together more closely to increase the competitiveness of Indonesian nutmeg commodities in the international market.

Abstract

ABSTRACTWorld tea consumption increased by 3.5% over the last decade. The black tea commodity is projected to grow by 2% in the next decade. Black tea is one of Indonesia's leading export commodities that has a role in fulfilling the world's demand for black tea. The decline in black tea commodity exports can be a threat to the competitiveness of Indonesian black tea. The decrease in the area of tea plantations due to land conversion has led to a decrease in the volume of tea production. The purpose of this study was to analyze the competitiveness of Indonesia's black tea commodity (HS Code: 090240) in export destination markets, namely Rusia, the United States, China, Germany and Australia, and to determine the relationship between RCA and export value and volume using the correlation test. This research uses secondary data obtained through the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), International Trade Center (ITC). This study uses data for ten years from 2012 to 2022. The analysis method used is Revealed Comparative Advantage (RCA) analysis and correlation test. The results showed that the RCA value of Indonesian black tea commodities was competitive in the five export destination countries, namely Rusia, the United States, China, Germany and Australia. The RSCA value obtained from the five countries is positive, which means that Indonesian black tea commodities have a comparative advantage in export destination countries. The correlation test shows that the relationship between RCA value and export value and export volume in the United States and Germany is very strong and the relationship is strong in China. However, in Russia and Australia the correlation value is not significant.
