Abstract

This research aims to comprehend and discover the construction of actiontowards LGBT students at a university in Malang. Next, this research focuses upon the accommodative-persuasive attitude, which is influenced by humanism, of the academic community towards LGBT students. For that reason, this study employs phenomenological approach to acquire substantive meaning within the dynamics of LGBT students. This study suggests that LGBT is formed not only form naturally (essentialism), but also through social environment (social constructionism). Apart from the two major views upon how LGBT is developed, the academic communities do not legitimize any treatments against LGBT students under rationale that LGBT community is less than God’s creation. The academic communities have been attempting to “realign” the LGBT students to their nature. They believe that LGBT students have the fundamental rights as God’s creation (as in line with other human being) and those rights must get attention from all elements of academic communities.

Abstract

The thought of ideal curriculum development in Indonesia keeps on scrolling. It was started from curriculum 1947, 1949, 1952, 1964, 1968, 1975, 1984, 1994, Competence-based Curriculum (KBK), School-based Curriculum (KTSP), and the 2013 Curriculum. Those changes are the answers of global demand to the education quality. However, by looking at the fact that there are many cases of students fight, drug abuse and free sex among students, it can be concluded that the curriculum changes are not in line with the reality in education world. Based on the explanation above, this paper tries to offer an idea to develop curriculum based Qur’an by reviewing one of the term used in Qur’an to refer to the educational process, namely: ‘ta’lim’. Based on the analysis, the word ta’lim has a deep meaning including cognitive, affective, and psychomotor domains. If it is related to the curriculum development, curriculum based Qur’an is a learning model which focuses on the three domains above, as seen on the meaning coverage of ta’lim used in Qur’an.

Abstract

The transformation of Islamic higher education into State Islamic University (Universities Islam Negeri/UIN) necessitates the changing of scientific thoughts. Before this transformation, Islamic higher education 's core business is commonly concerned with the teaching of Islamic sciences, while UIN includes the instruction of general sciences, e.g., natural and social Sciences. In fact, the two (Islamic and natural-social science) should be integrated into the Islamic high education to establish a new integrated scientific paradigm. This study focuses mainly on the philosophy and the integration of science and Islamic methodologies in Indonesia. Based on the phenomenological qualitative approach, the current study critically examines Islam and science integration. Grounded on the study of three UINs, the article shows a novel paradigm that enables the integration of science and religion in those universities. Each university offers a specific character of the integration. UIN of Malang, for example, initiates the integration which is reflected in “tree of science”. UIN of Yogyakarta offers the metaphor of “spider web” for its interconnected and integrated Islam and science project while UIN of Surabaya proposes multidisciplinary-integration with the metaphor of integrated twin towers.

Abstract

Today's religious moderation is an interesting topic in the interaction and relations of modern society. The emergence of a group or individual actions that are intolerant and disrespectful of other people or groups in physical or verbal treatment is a serious problem in religious moderation. This study aims to explain and describe the implementation of religious moderation education in Islamic boarding school Miftahul Ulum Suren Jember which has a positive influence in forming a safe, dynamic, and conducive community structure. The type of this research was qualitative with a phenomenological approach. The participants in this study were 7 people including clerics and students who meet the predetermined research criteria. Data were collected through interviews and observations using interview and observation instruments. The data analysis technique used in this research was the reduction, presentation, and interpretation of the data. The study’s findings showed that in the implementation of religious moderation education at the Miftahul Ulum Islamic boarding school, there are two important themes which are the concept of religious moderation education and the obstacles and supports in its application. The value of mutual respect and tolerance is the main concept that is taught. Group fanaticism and culturing of figures are negative values that need to be eliminated in religious moderation education. Constraints and obstacles in applying religious moderation education in Islamic boarding schools include the regeneration of Kiai who have equal knowledge to continue the existence of the pesantren. The implication of this religious moderation education has a positive impact in constructing the society’s knowledge and culture. This research still has many limitations both in terms of themes and studies and research implementation techniques. In the future, further research can enrich and strengthen the results of this previous research.
